  1. I kind of love Jim Harbaugh. How nice it must be to have a coach that just wins. No gimmicky system, no need to wait years on end to fit guys into said gimmicky system - just gets guys with talent and wins with them. Pro-style, spread, option, whatever, Stanford can do any of it and do it well. If he coached UM with the kind of players they can get, like Hawkeye said, look out. I was under the impression that there was an issue with Harbaugh about Michigan, but not sure why I am under that impression. Didn't he say he didn't want the job right after Carr quit and was never really considered for it either.
  2. yeah i always think that too. i know it'll never happen, but every time the hawks are in that situation i wish the 2 coaches would look at each other and give some sort of secret signal to agree to tell their players not to score. When OT was first brought in there was a lot of fear of this happening.
  3. I was rooting for alabama because whenever a lower ranked teams pulls a slight upset in the SEC, the lower ranked team will unfairly jump a bunch of schools in the polls while the higher ranked team will not drop that much because this just shows how hard the SEC is to play. My guess is LSU will become the highest ranked 1 loss team while Alabama drops to 11 or 12
  4. This LSU Bama game has gotten pretty good after a boring first half
  5. Close does not always mean good
  6. I dont understand why you would have Scheelhouse in the pocket on such a key play
  7. still 3 hours until the Zenyatta race
  8. wow...look how low Michigans program has sunk, that kind of excitement over a OT win against Illinois
  9. wow 1 inch line and they go shotgun
  10. It has nothing to do with who I think is better, Johnson is better. I also understand that Hoffpauir has no upside. I just think that adding guys like Johnson would just be treading water, if that is the case I would just as soon just hide all the pretenses of being a WS contender and get serious about player development. Its kind of a get worse to get better thing. What does playing a 31 year old Micah Hoffpauir have to do with player development? Nothing, but the Cubs are already paying him. Might as well invest whatever money you save on Johnson into player development.
  11. I guess I have seen this exact strategy too much in my life as a Cub fan...."Hey lets compete in our crappy division, lets bring in past prime players to help us achieve this goal." Got to admit it gets me excited

  13. If we were really close to being a WS contender I would be all for bringing in Nick Johnson if we needed a part-time 1bman. If however this is just a treading water move until youth develops or payroll is more flexible, I would just as soon let Hoffpauir play 1st. While we were at it trade any veteran that has some sort of value and start investing the savings into player development. It would flat out depress me to watch a 78 win team with Nick Johnson batting 3rd and Marlon Bird hitting 5th. Way to similar to how the Cubs have been run most of my life.
  14. What? This is a legitimate business? How could this possibly go wrong?
  15. Hope he wakes up in time.
  16. We'll make it but it's going to be a struggle. Remember when we laughed at the Red Wings last year for struggling to make the playoffs until they got hot down the stretch? Its a bitch to lose a lot of depth to the salary cap and then have some key injuries. The Hawks will be fine and will probably be better for it in the long run.
  17. Wow, I like MSU's chances of going to the Rose Bowl again.
  18. They have a ridiculously good starting rotation. The team is mediocre, but dominant pitching can overcome a lot of things. yes they did...they really improved their offense as the season progressed also. I agree it is still a middle of the road offense, but with dominating pitching it is not like they are some complete fluke like the 06 Cardinals.
  19. Doesn't Wisconsin have the inside track for the Rose Bowl?
  20. I think the Giants are a better team then some here are giving credit for. From the outside looking in one thing that I really like about them is that Bochy seems to have no problems playing the better player. I wonder how long our last couple of managers would have held out hope that Rowand would get better or made some stupid reason to keep Molina.
  21. UM, I have always been kind of the other way with MSU. I have never gotten into BB that much even though MSU has one of the elite programs in the country. Their FB team is mediocre at best but I follow that much more closely. I think it has always had something to do with my trying to make my dad angry:)
  22. Hasn't the Outback, Gator and Capital One Bowls been at the same time in the past? The only difference was the Big Ten was not in the Gator Bowl.
  23. That might quickly change. If there is a labor stoppage after the NFL CBA is up and there are canceled games, fans might leave as quickly as they did baseball in 1994. Ok, maybe not that quickly if the Super Bowl isn't canceled, but still. I switched back and forth and neither game was really that engrossing. I wanted to watch the WS. on another topic..My brother lives in the Bay Area and he is really starting to annoy me with this Giants get no respect crap. It seems to be a topic that has run wild out there. Get over it, one team had to be the underdog!!!!! Also, get over the fact that you are way to West for ESPN, everyone already knows that. Do like me and a lot of people I know do, we don't watch ESPN sports pundit programming. You will be a much happier person.
  24. when you lose is more important then who you lose too
