  1. I have a list of thoughts and observations of CFB. I watched a lot yesterday but did not post at all so here goes 1. As a Michigan St fan there is no other team I hate to play more than Northwestern. 2. ND is going to upset BC this week(and probably get votes in the polls) 3. I wish people would get off this Zook can recruit but cant coach crap. The Great Spurrier left him a sinking ship at Florida. It had been sinking since Stoops went to OK. Zook took it to the bottom but he was bringing it back up. I hope Zook wins a NT at Illinois and shuts up all those stupid critics. 4. Nebraska is not a good team. So Missouri fans dont get to excited about this win. Also dont think that if you shut down Nebraskas running game you can do the same to OK. 5. I may be wrong about Ohio St. They are the best team in the Big Ten 6. Illinois is going to beat Michigan by 2 touchdowns in a couple of weeks 7. LSU is not going to run the table. 8. I hate my cable company. Last year I didnt have ABC for a month because they didnt want to pay, Now I dont have the Big Ten Network. I will do something different next year if they dont get it. I also will not pay extra to have it in some package that its the only channel I want. 9. The polls have been pretty extreme this year. Dropping Michigan from 5 to out. Wisconsin 12 spots for losing at a 1 loss team. Bringing South Florida from nowhere to 5. Why wasnt Florida dropped that much for losing at home to a 2 loss team and losing in back to back weeks. Why is Missouri still 11th? 10. Did I mention that I hate when Michigan St plays Northwestern
  2. Will Florida please go to the back of the bus with the other 2 lose teams. College FB is about what have you done lately. Florida has lost 2 in a row. Back to the end of the poll please
  3. Maybe if we had missed the playoffs this year we coul talk about trading our franchise players and blow up the organization so we could rebuild the right way. Since we made the playoffs, we are pretty much stuck with making whatever moves we can around these guys and their contracts that will increase. You are right. I did mention that Hendry would never do it. Maybe a new owner will bring a new GM who may be much more progessive.
  4. all 3 have a brighter future also
  5. Why are we considering Soriano, Aram and Lee locks for next year. Iknow Hendry probably wont trade them. However what could be had in return for trading any one of these guys could really get the Cubs a younger cheaper budding superstar. None of these 3 guys is in the top 5 in there position in baseball. Soriano isnt even close. However they all have reputations that are worth more than there actual value. For that matter the same can be said about Howry and Lily, not quite at the same level If we can get Matt Kemp for one of these guys, I would do it. These are the types of moves that the Cubs have to make to get to the next level. Not getting more overpaid, deteriating players. Realistically the Rockies, Padres, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Braves, Mets and Marlins are probably in better position this offseason than the Cubs. These are only the NL teams. The Phillies and Cardinals might be in as good of shape as the Cubs. This team has to take a different direction while good value can still be had for some of our better players. If done right we could be he Cleveland Indians in 4 yrs. If we keep going the direction we are headed we will be the Baltimore Orioles in 2 yrs, with none of these players having much trade value.
  6. Most of what is mentioned in this thread is only water treading moves.
  7. Sorry, I just dont see it. They wont be able to compete for the big free agents. their bullpen is horrible. Their starting pitching is mediocre at best, and Sheets has proved he cant stay healthy. They will definitely provide some healthy competition, but 90 wins is stretching it. Bullpens are fickle, Gaurdaro is probably the future ace and Capuano will probably rebound. Also what free agents do they need? They could probably use a LFer since Mench is no good and Jenkins is probably leaving. The Brewers are a young team getting better. The Cubs are a older team whose star players are probably only going to decline in the future.
  8. No Milwaukee will win 90+ next season. At this point I have a hard time seeing the Cubs making it.
  9. Cleveland is 1 of the best teams in baseball, Colorado is the hottest team in baseball. The Cubs are losing to the luckiest team in baseball.
  10. There is a reason that LaRussa didnt have Rogers checked last year during the WS.
  11. I don't get why they started the main slate during MLB playoffs opening night. Why not make a big deal of starting Tuesday, when no other sports are one. Promote the crap out of it. Have every team play. Do something. Well, anyway, I'm glad to watch the Center Ice free preview, although I don't see myself buying it unless the Hawks are solid by midseason. I watched some hockey between the Boston and Cubs games. Heard Montreal in French. Saw a sloppy shootout. Normally I'd rather see a team bottom out than finish somewhere like 10th or 11th in the conference and draft 10th-12th overall. But with all the losing, I think I'd actually prefer just missing the playoffs than seeing them draft high again. At least flirt with 40 wins this year and give reason for hope in 2008-2009. Although I'd take a playoff appearance as well. Tuesday would be a good idea. The marketing people in the NHL have to get creative and having a player like Crosby they should fully take advantage of it. Have him go to the Rangers?
  12. The fact that he has the Diamondbacks, Phillies and Rockies ahead of the Indians just shows how big of a dumbie he is.
  13. I cant believe you havent heard of "Bad Max Beyond the Fukudome" Its no Deepthroat or Debbie Does Dallas but its pretty famous. I cant give the plot details here but the "Break a Deal, Spin the Wheel" has some pretty gross stuff on it.
  14. Yeah, Byrnes, Young and Reynolds (and Jackson to a lesser extent) have been adamant about defending themselves against Pythag. It's kind of funny how big a deal something like that has become in the mainstream media. I think the only 2 other teams to make the playoffs with a minus in RS/RA were the 84 Royals and Padres a couple of years ago. Those teams won 84 and 83 games respectively. This years Diamondbacks are kind of a oddity. A first in baseball history if you must. Winning 90 and making the playoffs with a losing Pythag. I think that is why the mainstream media is picking up on it. I will say that if "knowing how to win" was such a valuable skill, how come more teams havent done it in history. Also if "knowing how to win" was such a skill how come the 84 Royals and 05 Padres got eliminated from the playoffs rather quickly. I heard on Mike and Mike that the 87 Twins were the only one to have ever won a playoff game. The others were all swept and they said the others but I don't remember who they were. yes, the D-Backs are the 5th team to make the playoffs with a negative run differential, and only the 87 Twins (who won it all) have even won one postseason game I was sure wrong. I thought I heard yesterday that only 2 teams had made the playoffs with losing Pythag records. Still not the best way to go about making the playoffs. Also I think the 84 Mets won 90 games with a losing Pythag. I remember reading Bill James Baseball Abstract the next season and he had an article on some of the strange Pythag records that year.

  16. Neither time with a team that won 90 games So? Because that is the traditional standard of a good team. It doesnt mean anything but I would venture to say that every team that has ever made the post season with less than 90 wins probably have a very low percentage of returning the next season. Edit. So after shooting off my typing I looked up every team that won less than 90 and made the playoffs. A surprisingly high number of them made the playoffs the next year. 10 of them made it the next season and 14 didnt make it. I only went back to 1969. I figured before divisional play there probably wasnt very many non 90 win teams to make the World Series.
  17. In basketball, replay is mostly used for the clock, but also to determine whether a player's foot was on the line during a three-point shot (only used on close calls obviously). In hockey, they'll use it to see if the puck crossed the goal line, or if a goal is scored right as time is running out in a period. Hockey can use to make sure a goal is good for any number of reasons. Like touched with a high stick. Intentionally kicked or punched in. If baseball had instant replay I could see about 25% of all double plays being reviewed.
  18. I am happy. Especially with the decision to go with the been hot lately Cedeno over the Sucked all year Monroe.
  19. Neither time with a team that won 90 games
  20. Trading Joel Guzman for Julio Lugo Signing Brett Tomko Re-signing Nomar Garciaparra for 2 years Letting Greg Maddux sign with the Padres Signing Randy Wolf for $8 million Signing Jason Schmidt for $47 million Picking up Esteban Loaiza and his bloated '08 contract I gotta say signing Pierre longterm is worse than signing Tomko or Wolf for 1 year. And either way, signing Juan Pierre is always better than trading for him and giving up Renyel Pinto, Ricky Nolasco and Sergio Mitre. Thanks I couldnt remember them and the poll was gone when I went back. Now that I have reread them signing Pierre is probably worse than a couple of those moves. Funny how the guy who runs that site doesnt have the Pierre signing higher.
  21. I was at Dodgerblues.com this morning or yesterday. They had a poll of which were the worst moves made so far by Ned Colleti. The stupid signing of Juan Pierre didnt even make the top five. So as bad as I think Hendry has been it surely could be a lot worse.
  22. I TOLD YOU THEY CHEAT!!!! They did turn themselves in. I wonder what this freshmen eligibility rule is? players aren't eligible if they accepted $200k from a booster I knew they made a lot at Michigan, but $200k? Wow, how much to the kids at Penn State get? Probably as much as they do at O$U, F$U and U$C.

  24. So his arguement for the importance of RBIs is Hank Greenberg chiding his teammate for not leaving anyone on for him to drive in. I actually think this is a arguement for RBI being overrated as a stat. It basically says that Hank Greenberg would have more RBIs if there were more people on base when he hit.
  25. Sounds like Michigan may really be out to get Penn St. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=ApMDXGms3n4Sya7UYIqEY.McvrYF?slug=ap-michigan-ineligibleplayer&prov=ap&type=lgns I never heard of the kid and it sounds petty.
