  1. Maybe there is still hope for Hee Seop Choi. Without looking at the numbers I would guess they are kind of similar. Is he still in the Tampa organization.
  2. Looking at his numbers he wasnt bad in Detroit. Not good but certainly not bad. I dont think Detroit has had a 1b since he has left who is better than Pena was while in Detroit.
  3. .305/.403/.537 That'd only make him the best hitter on our team this year. Yeah, it's a real good thing we didn't pick him up. He wouldn't have been better than the crap we've had from CF or RF a good chunk of this season. Lee and Aramis both have him beat in batting. Lee has the same on base percentage. Bradley numbers are lower then this because his Oakland numbers. He often hurt and is a jerk. EqA: DLee - .297 Aramis - .300 Bradley - .286 with OAK, .334 with SD (where he has approx 2/3 of his PT) This season, Bradley has been a better hitter, even including his Oakland numbers (which are nothing to scoff at). Yeah, he's been injured a good chunk of the season, but putting him in CF when Jacque was performing so badly would have been worth quite a few wins, or in right when Floyd had forgotten how to hit for power. He may be an asshat, but he's a very valuable one. Still he an azz and he is not a better hitter I tell you what Nobull, Rob almost had me convinced that Bradley was a good player with those crazy stats. Then your arguements were so compelling, who in their right mind would even consider that Bradley was even close to being as good as Lee and Ramirez.
  4. I have to admit that JJ has grown on me. I still dont think he is a very good hitter. His attitude during this season was great though. I really pull for the guy.
  5. I think Illinois will give Penn ST all kinds of problems. This is the week we will finally see about Michigan ST. If there was no preseason rankings, I think Wisconsin and MSU would be pretty even.
  6. The Yankees have said if he opts out, they're done with him. They've said they would not enter a bidding war, not that I trust much coming out of NY (Scarlett Johanson and Natalie Portman excluded, of course), including the A-rod rumor. I could see Boston, LAA and the Dodgers getting in the mix, White Sox as a dark horse (who knows) and Omar Minaya possibly seizing if he found some way to throw the Mets' hat into the ring. I think Boras would use Cubs more as rumor mill fodder, teasing Cubdom nationwide. Mets going to play him at 2nd? I dont see the Yankees just letting him go if he opts out. I think that is just them postering.
  7. Can he still play SS? Could you imagine the Cubs outbidding the Yankees for a player. I would pee myself.
  8. Of course this is true. There is no actual stats in the game themselves. What stats do is give us a mathematical analysis of the outcome of games. So we can predict what will happen in the future. There is no stats in driving a car. I do know its statistically better to where a seatbelt and not drink when driving though. Of course there are some occasions when wearing a seatbelt may cost me my life, it is silly to try to predict when that occasion will come when starting my car. So it would be best if I wore it everytime. The more I am around the more I know there are certain "truths" in baseball that are not true at all. Clutch hitting, Last 3 outs are the toughest, Power pitchers pitch better in cold weather, Some pitchers know how to win are some of those non-truths.
  9. Still not sure what to make of Michigan St. I am willing to go out on the limb and say they will make a bowl. There stupid mistakes are down about 200% from the last couple of years. They just dont seem as talented as about 8 other Big Ten schools. Which with the way the Big Ten is going is not good. I am happy they won though. This may sound funny but I kind of feel bad for Notre Dame. Of course as soon as they win their first 3 games next year and break into the Top 5, I will remember why I dislike them so.
  10. White Sox Fan says in 2006 "I would rather have Crede than ARam because he hustles, plays better defense and IS A BETTER CLUTCH HITTER" Just 1 year ago ARam was not considered a good clutch hitter. Funny how sample size can change peoples perspective real quick.
  11. Is this Mallet kid for Michigan Navarres little brother.
  12. The only thing I have on right now is the 2 Big East games on ESPN. I live 20 frickin miles from Champaign. Yep. Pretty sweet that we can't get any Big Ten games right now even though we live in Big Ten country. Thanks Big Ten Network. Should there be just as much, or more blame on whatever cable company you have? My cable company is a for profit company. The Big Ten Network is a bunch of non-profit Schools, taking advantage of cheap labor, to turn a profit.

  14. That is definitely one area where Lou understands the situation better than most managers. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070921&content_id=2221866&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Agreed. This baseball created myth of the last 3 outs are the hardest is just plain silly. Worse of all some guys get huge contracts because they can put up 40 saves. What I dont understand is the bullpen is working right now. Why mess with it in the last week of the season. That would be just plain stupid.
  15. I would rather that the Cubs took Blanco on the playoff roster and left Monroe off. If he is just going to be a pinch hitter, I would rather have Kendall or Soto pinch hit. Which you cant do unless there is another Catcher.
  16. I think its funny that Howard is going to get a lot of MVP support this year. I wonder if Cincinnati was close if Dunn would get any real MVP support?
  17. I really hate ESPN for everything except PTI. I have always liked that show. I dont really have a take on Richard Justice though. What I dont understand is all these experts saying the Yankees are hot at the right time and picking them for the WS. How about Cleveland. They seem to be every bit as hot as the Yankees in the last month. Playing a tougher schedule.
  18. I would guess that there is a correlation between Team OBP and GIDP. Similar to the correlation between Team OBP and LOB. Possibly, but i'd also venture to say that there are plenty of teams with a higher team OBP than us and lower team GIDP. I looked it up. There is no correlation. At least not in the NL this season. It does appear that teams that KO less do ground into more DPs. Of course that is just looking at the NL this season. I wouldnt call that a for sure fact or anything.

  20. ah the nebulous claims of "you guys get as many as michigan does" by a michigan fan... yet zero detail on the calls that we do get. Meanwhile I can name 10 plays in the 2002 and 2005 games that were erroneous calls that went against penn state. If Michigan has gotten jobbed on fumble rulings, sideline calls and mysterious clock decisions, please provide some examples. I'd love to hear them. And by the way, Michigan did not have a better team in 2005... 2002 is arguable. First of all I am not a Michigan fan. I gave an example of a bad call that went against Michigan in the game in 2002. On Penn St last drive they had a 3rd and 15 or so. Their receiver trapped and rolled up on a ball. It was obvious in regular speed and slow motion. So instead of being 4th and 15 it was 4th and 2. Somehow after the game Penn St fans and Coach cried about the call that went against them. Never have I heard any of them cry about the call that went in their favor a minute earlier. If I was to go back in watch the game with a Michigan bias I am sure that I could easily find 10 calls that didnt go Michigans way. Since I am unbias when it comes to Penn St and Michigan I certainly would consider myself a more reasonable judge of the play calls than a Penn St fan. Bad calls happen. Losers make excuses for that is why they lose games. Winners understand that you lose games because the other team outplayed you. So yes Michigan was better than Penn St in 2002 and 2005. At least they were on the Saturday they played Penn St. Personally I think the refereeing during Penn St/Mich St games has been pretty one sided. Of course I have a BIAS for Mich St. Yet I do understand that Penn St has been a better team. Not that the refs are giving them the game. Lastly just to point out how off based your attack against the refs that supposedly pull for Michigan. How many refs would have to be involved in this conspiracy over the years. Dont you think at this point there would be one of them that came out and said that someone told them to play favorites for Michigan. Since Michigan is easily the most hated team in the Big Ten I would be inclined to believe that more refs are pulling against them than for them. Especially since Penn St is probably the most liked team by other Big Ten fans.
  21. Go Wings!!!!!!!!!!! Ducks suck!!!!!!!!!!! I usually dont really get into hockey until after College Football reg season ends. Nice to see a thread about it though
  22. I think that if Cuban was the high bidder and MLB voted him down, it is going to turn into a public relations nightmare for them. Its not like Cuban isnt a successful Pro team owner already. Also whoever did buy the Cubs would be put into a very bad spot with the fans. I think the only way this turns out good for everyone is someone outbids Cuban or they let Cuban have it. Its not like Cuban would be bad for baseball. Also think of the message the owners would be sending to the players. He has a reputation of being very popular with the players for the Mavericks. It probably wouldnt help the owners in negotiations with players if the players knew they were intentionaly not allowing an owner just because he was a "players owner'
  23. I don't know how much UM will win by but I feel pretty confident saying they will beat Penn State. based on? I don't think Penn State is very good, UM has the better starting QB and offense in general, and the game is at the Big House. i think this year proves that being at the Big House has little to no effect on the game Penn State has to be at least 10 points better to overcome the refs. I will never forget in the game that Paterno chased down the ref, He must of told him about the obvious trap that a Penn St receiver got called a reception early in their last drive. Somehow I sure am he and the other Penn St fans havent been complaining about that call for 4 years. Only the one where their receiver caught the ball but was ruled out of bounds. Penn St gets just as many good calls as Michigan or Notre Dame or Michigan St or Illinois. They probably arent crying about the ones going in their favor. Only the ones that go against them. The truth is Michigan has been a better team than Penn St for the last 8 yrs or so. If your team would focus on that instead of "refs" you might actually get better.
  24. I read in the tribune today that the Cubs told Comcast not to mention that Cuban was at the game on Monday. The article than went on to say that Cuban has no shot at owning the Cubs. Yesterday on PTI Welbon said it was complete crap that the owners of the 2 teams that are the closest to the Cubs (White Sox and Brewers) can basically stop the sale of the team to Cuban. I say good for you Welbon. I hope more Cub media starts to call this crap also.
  25. But if he's traded in the middle of his contract doesn't he have the right to declare for free agency? I'm pretty sure they took that out of the new CBA. Did they really? Well that would help things. IMO, the O's would want Hill, Pie and Marmol. Then our response should be HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
