  1. Hey Bruce - if you are willing to give us some interesting insight, who were some of the worst when going through tough times? Who were some of the nicest players to deal with, and who were some of the toughtest? I understand if you don't want to touch that, but it would be real interesting to know from a fan's perspective. Dempster always has been one of the best, if not the best. Murton was fine, and I never had one problem with Jacque Jones, although he could get a little defensive. He usually had a smile. Barrett is terrific, and Derrek Lee is the same win or lose _ quiet but very gracious. Zambrano has been good to deal with. The most impressive thing I ever saw with him was when he volunteered to serve as interpreter for Juan Mateo. I remember when Carlos could barely speak English. He did a great job as interpreter, and I told him so. I wasn't a big Phil Nevin fan. He always carried the "I'm a jock and you're not" persona. Some of that rubbed off on Ohman, who can be very engaging at times. Prior and Wood seemed to go into shells a little bit. I suppose you can't blame them for not wanting to talk about injuries every day. Over the years, I've gotten on really well with most of the guys. So Bruce, how was Sammy to deal with?
  2. sometimes i wonder what things would be like now if sammy had hit 66 home runs in 1997. would he still be so attached to mcgwire? everyone was fine with mark until the congressional hearing. why did sosa (apparently) fall with him? Goose Gossage to ESPN on Mark McGwire’s testimony before Congress: “He got some bad legal advice. He should have done what (Sammy) Sosa did and pretend he couldn’t speak English anymore.’’
  3. I think Barry Rozner got it right.
  4. Can you say Michael Jordan playing for the Washington Wizards? Don't embarass yourself Sammy, stay retired!
  5. All this talk of Innings Eaters is giving me indigestion.
  6. Thats easy.. Palmer of course...theres 2 QB's in the league you start no matter the matchup..Thats peyton and palmer..Eli is overrated, not a big fan of his anyways. Hasslebeck is on the next tier of QB's, Darrel jackson will be out so that hurts..The thing that sucks the person im playing has Walker on his team..So those points will likely cancel out each other if I pick Cutler..Hasslebeck has been so inconsistent but hes the one who lead me here...So Im kinda leaning towards him What it Cutler throws two TD to Walker but Hasslebeck doesn't throw any? I realize intuitively it seems silly to consider Eli or Carson but if you look at the numbers, Denver is 4th best in not allowing QB points and 2nd best in not allowing WR points while NO is 30th best and 31st best respectively. Will Cincy try to run against Denver (19th best against RBs) like they did against the Colts (32th best against RBs) or resort back to their hurry-up/passing offense?
  7. First thing to consider is (injuries) - Javon Walker has a separated shoulder however he appears to be playing. Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker suffered a first-degree shoulder separation during Sunday's win over the Cardinals, but he played through the injury. Head coach Mike Shanahan told the Denver Post that Walker will continue to fight through the ailment. Second thing is who's at home and who will be losing (passing) - in this case both teams so that doesn't help you. Third, who's hotter and has the better matchup - Cutler, I'd go with him assuming Walker OK. Similar question to you. Palmer vs Den. or Eli Manning vs. NO?
  8. Compromise - In honor of Sammy, only let Marquis wear #21 on the last day of the year when it wasn't really needed or used by Mr. Sosa anyway.
  9. Chicago Bronko Nagurski 3 George McAfee 5 George Halas 7 Willie Galimore 28 Walter Payton 34 Gale Sayers 40 Brian Piccolo 41 Sid Luckman 42 Dick Butkus 51 Bill Hewitt 56 Bill George 61 Clyde "Bulldog" Turner 66 Red Grange 77 Only one Bear from the 1985 team, that's a travesty. Singletary and Hampton made the Hall of Fame and should have their numbers retired.
  10. Did you listen to the majority and play Manning?
  11. Manning - Greater chance that he'll be behind and passing. Addai and Rhodes are questionable. Usually does well in bounce back games and on Monday night.
  12. If Meche goes to the Jays, where does that leave the Cubs? From Rotoworld: According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, free agent Ted Lilly has told the Yankees he'd join them if they're willing to give him a four-year, $40 million contract. Lilly can probably get $1 million more per year from the Cubs, but he'd apparently prefer to join the Bombers. It's not yet clear whether the Yankees, who would actually be paying $56 million once the luxury tax is factored in, will take him up on his offer. They may have only until tonight to decide. Dec. 6 - 5:35 pm et Source: SI.com
  13. They are hiring Dusty Baker as manager.
  14. Pulos was misquoted. He didn't say MVP should be from winner. He said "MVP should be Whiner." It which case, he deserved to win.
  15. go away Please? Isn't it time this guy was banned. He's done nothing but troll since the first day he posted on here. Where's the petition? I'll start it. Enough is enough.
  16. When it comes to dealing with the national media (i.e., voters), the surly Prince Albert is his own worst enemy. I'm sure after Pujols latest self-centered comments, the writers who voted for the media savvy Ryan Howard are feeling even better about their votes. \
  17. As long as the incentives are based on 55 home runs and a 1200 OPS, I'm OK with $9 million.
  18. Scoring method? Buffalo is 32nd against the run in which case Jones may be a good play in scoring heavy leagues.
  19. Both deserving although Pujols surly attitude toward the national media couldn't have helped his chances. The national media appears to like the happy-go-lucky Howard and in a close vote that was probably the difference.
  20. Finally, a voice of reason. :D In standard Yahoo scoring, Green has been worth two points more than Dunn this season, and he's played in two fewer games than Dunn. And Dunn is facing one of the best defenses in the league. Hey Rookie - Dunn had 57 yards and Green had 29. Ray Lewis didn't play making previous D stats irrelevant. There is more to Fantasy football than stats and predictions  Some times you just got to go with your instincts. :)
  21. In a standard scoring (1/10), I'd go with Dunn as I think the Pack will be behind and passing and believe Green could be in for a difficult afternoon versus New England. The Patriots have allowed the fewest rushing yards per game on the road (60.5), and the four featured backs they've faced outside of Gillette Stadium have combined to rush for a mere 188 yards and one touchdown. That list of backs includes the likes of Rudi Johnson, Willis McGahee and Chester Taylor, and Green could be next in line. Dunn on the road (just barely) over Green at home.
  22. Hopefully, Neal Cotts last season isn't what impressed him.
  23. Lou really needs to find a spot on his staff for Roger Craig.
  24. At last, a baseball category where the Cubs representation is near the top. I posted this link in the Transactions/Press Releases thread but after careful consideration, I think it is very funny and deserving of it's own thread. As always, I defer to the the Mods. http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/Morisato/2006/06/07/All_Time_Stupidest_Sports_Injuries
