  1. Goat - I believe you misunderstood Guillen's words. His quote was analyzed to death on AM 1000 and the conclusion reached was that Ozzie was defending his decision to walk Texeira and pitch to Sosa and that he would do it again - hence "Be ready Sammy, you're going hit." If you look at the other quotes recently attributed to Guillen regarding Sosa, he has been nothing but supportive of him. IMO, this quote is being taken out of context in an effort by the media to stir things up. Ozzie Guillen supports Sammy Sosa like George Bush supports freedom. not at all Miss this article? http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/344040,CST-SPT-soxnt17.article

  4. Cards lose to Bucs 6 - 1. Prince Albert goes 0 -3 and is now hitting .160 and is showing every bit of his 38 years.
  5. Pirates lead the Red Birds 6 - 1 in the top of the ninth.
  6. Just curious Mordecai, why baseball? Why not close all govenment offices? Or the stock market? How about closing all colleges for a day?Wouldn't you just be encouraging the nuts?
  7. His production has sharply decreased from his Cubs days. Although admittedly it is still a small sample size, if he keeps this pace up, he'll be gone by the All-star break. Texeira needs better protection than that.
  8. Billy Crystal. Didn't you see 61* ?
  9. I'm sure if the Maris family knew then what they know now, they would have passed on the celebration/charade that accompanied McGwire's 62nd homer.
  10. Why? Because he doesn't want to help glorify a cheater?
  11. It's obvious Jay is lacking in original thoughts and has taken to reading NSBB posts for his ideas.
  12. I may need to reconsider my view -Jay Mariotti agrees with me. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/334586,CST-SPT-jay10.article
  13. You'll love Petco. Downtown park with all the modern amenities and in the Gaslamp District close to everything. Great Little League park right outside of the left field wall. If during any part of your stay, the Padres are out of town, take the $9 tour that is given on off days.
  14. Me too. I agree with you and I think the new owners should move the Cubs from the exciting and always vibrant Wrigleyville area. A place that is assessible from the North, South and West by public transporation and is a 20 minute L ride from a place where millions go to work everyday (The Loop). Screw the people who come in from out of town and want to stay downtown and take in other things one of the greatest cities in the world has to offer in addition to going to a Cubs game. The fact that over 3 million people a year have been coming to Wrigleyville to take in a Cubs game is solely because of the excellent product that has been on the field - no one comes for the great pre and post game experience available in Wrigleyville. The new stadum could be affordably built in the corn fields west of Elgin. That way it would be convenient for people who live in the NW suburbs. Screw the south side cubs fans - they should be White Sox fans anyway, or the northside fans - heck the Yuppies can always rent a car if they want to go to a game bad enough. The new stadium could be surrounded by miles and miles of vibrant parking lots. Who needs friendly neighborhood bars and great atmosphere when you got traffic jams. Outside of the parking lots, a Shaumburg-like feel could be created by adding endless strip malls, Walmarts, Fridays and Bennigans. People would come from all over the world to experience "Suburbville" because it would be a place like no other. Yep, that is what the new owners should do. Take the Cubs out of Wrigleyville and move them to the Suburbs.
  15. I have to agree with you davhern. I grew up in the north suburbs and I always dreaded fighting the traffic on Irving Park Rd coming from/heading towards 94... same goes for taking the scenic drive down Sheridan Rd. along the lake. And the parking absolutely STINKS! Always has, always will... I always thought and said the Cubs should build a new stadium out near the Tri-State... JMO. Come on guys, this isn't LA. Use the available public transportation. The following for weekend or night games or take the L for weekday games. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/ballpark/directions.jsp The Chicago Cubs operate a shuttle and parking service at the DeVry University campus located off Addison St. and Western Avenue for all weekend and night games. For $6.00 you can park your vehicle and all occupants ride the shuttle free to and from the ballpark. Take advantage of the savings with the easy in and out of our secure remote parking facility. The first shuttle leaves two and one half hour prior to the game. The shuttle runs for one hour after all Night Games and for two hours after all Weekend Day Games.
  16. Ask someone who has lived in both NY city and Chicago who has worse weather. How often does it snow in New York in April? Buffalo is part of Canada not New York.
  17. If it's any consolation to you. http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/boatandbeach/weather/tenday/USIL0225?from=search_vert
  18. The modifications the Viper and I are proposing are much less extensive than the total rehab which occurred at Soldier Field which I believe also was considered a historical landmark at one time. Anyway, we're talking about Chicago, where anything can occur as long as the right palms* are greased. *Or for that matter, even the left palms.
  19. The Viper has got it right. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-070403morrissey,1,6122762.column?coll=chi-sportstop-hed
  20. Whatever Reinsdorf charged would be easily and quicky recouped from the revenues from a new and improved Wrigley Field. I really don't think Soldier Field could be configured for baseball.
  21. Keep the bleachers, centerfield scoreboard and outfield ivy walls as is. Bring the rest of Wrigley field into the 21st century while attempting to keep as much character as possible. Put in more revenue producing skyboxes and more wash rooms and get rid of the bad smell, bad food and falling concrete. I would bet fixing/replacing the stadium from foul pole to foul pole could be accomplished with only having to play one season at US Cellular. Do not build a new stadium in the suburbs.
  22. You must be talking about girls softball where they use a 12 inch ball and mitts.
  23. Maybe the Cubs can cut their losses and sell the blue jerseys to a local sixteen inch softball team where they would fit right in.
