  1. Not trying to derail this thread even more so, much less on a political track, but it is infuriating to me the lobby against stem cell research. There have been some very promising developments in the fight against ALS. The fact that some assholes in the Christian Right have fought against stem cell research on the grounds of being pro-life is maddening. Here's the article on the promise of this research: http://alsn.mda.org/news/als-stem-cell-trial-israel-accelerated
  2. My gf's mother was acting normally just 13 months ago. She now is near catatonic for stretches and has to be fed and taken to the bathroom. They originally thought it was Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, but now they have eliminated that and are testing for ALS, among other things. Scary.
  3. I can't buy that as a legitimate theory based on everything I know about ALS. The cause of ALS seams to continue to be a mystery and I would think something as relatively simple as head trauma would have shown a stronger correlation by now. There is lots of research out there about it. Apparently ALS is unusually high among boxers, football players, soccer players and other contact sports. Can you point me towards anything you've read? I am pretty interested in the disease and have never heard of this. Here is a story on the NFL site, but there are studies all over the place. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d819d12df/article/scientists-link-athletes-head-injuries-alslike-disease If you weren't aware of the Steve Gleason story, he founded what really is an amazing foundation for the research of ALS and the treatment and care of patients with the disease. The logo for his foundation is my sig, and he is a huge inspiration for me, our city and really anyone for that matter. I honestly am in awe of him, and his wife. Here's his story behind the foundation:
  4. The Steelers are one of those teams I irrationally root for for no apparent reason. Maybe it's because it's a blue collar city, great fans, and even when they are bad they still hit you in the mouth. They are physically kicking the Bengals' asses.
  5. Yes, I know it's a moot point probably, but how do the Saints not go for 2 there? The extra point is meaningless and makes it an 11 point game, while a 2 point conversion makes it within a TD and field goal. Just dumb. EDIT: OK, they can still do it now. I just would like to know if they needed 2 tds or could kick a FG on 4th down.
  6. My fantasy team appreciates it. Needed Romo to at least keep within reach of his points today. This is also why I say the Saints are beatable in the playoffs. Doesn't have their home crowd, but this game is also in a dome. Don't need bad weather to beat them, though a pass rush would help. I think it's simpler than that. The home field matters, no doubt, but it's more about the matchups. The Saints are very vulnerable to teams with a great pass rush or a solid front 4. Our O-line sucks and has for years now. Drew Brees is still under 6 ft tall, and if you get a rush up the middle, he becomes average or worse when he can't step into his throws. Charles Brown is the worst left tackle in football. I am including college, and maybe Pop Warner.
  7. This is not an attack on you personally nor does it mean anything in the long term, but I find it funny reading these discussions as Drew Brees is having maybe the worst game in his career. I would submit that Drew Brees' 3 worst games of his career are in St. Louis. For some reason, he plays like garbage there. I actually am posting on here because the game was so bad. The Rams strength is our biggest weakness. Their D-front versus our O-line. It's been that way every time we play.
  8. To be fair, again, I posed this as a question. I don't hate Jay and never went full meatball on him, although some of you clearly thought so. He just plays like crap sometimes and I wanted your opinions on why you defend the guy so vehemently. I don't care if he is a jerk. So what? He is better than most, but while talented, he does make some Sexy Rexy-like choices at times.
  9. OK. I got it. I am terribly sorry I mixed up McCown with McNown. That doesn't make Jay great. AGAIN, this isn't about saying Jay should be benched. I wonder going into next year if you guys are that sold on him, and just defending him because meatballs hate him is crazy talk. He is very talented, but he does make terrible mistakes. You can't deny that. Nope, not "giving up football", but thanks for the insight.
  10. Cade McNown is not a better option than Jay Cutler, no matter how many meatballs say differently. OK, like I said, I get that. Going forward, how is Jay definitely your guy though?
  11. I swear, I just don't understand the love for Jay Cutler on here, or some Bears fans I meet in person for that matter. I'm not saying that McNown should be starting or anything like that, but is there not a ceiling for how good the Bears can be with Jay at QB? He just makes a ton of terrible Romo-like decisions over and over. I am not trying to trash the guy, but I just genuinely want to understand the defiant love for the guy.
  12. That Edward Jones Dome or whatever it's called is Drew Brees' kryptonite. He never plays well there. Meanwhile, Charles Brown continues to be absolutely terrible at football.
  13. Little to no doubt that Jameis Winston is a better person that johnny manziel What's this based on? At the very least jameis boned a blacked out chick in a bathroom and then dropped her off on a random corner after. Other than sign autographs and potentially take some cash what did manziel do? Just generally being a complete douchebag is enough for me to dislike Manziel, but I basically agree with you. Winston may or may not be guilty of date rape, but he clearly was a pretty shitty guy at least one night.
  14. I assume you're referring to me because I was the one that said that about Mizzou. Your "logic" is a little faulty there. I was dead wrong about Mizzou, but I also stated that I thought Auburn would be really bad this year, and they're one of the flagship teams in the SEC. The only reason I ever talk up the conference is when guys on here pick every opportunity possible to rail on them. If you want the SEC to stop winning titles, then somebody needs to beat them on the damn field for once. Or maybe Ohio St should've taken care of business against MSU. For the record, I think the Noles are going to beat the crap out of Auburn. Something like 45-31.
  15. That's a silly thing to claim. For one thing if A&M was in the Big 12 last year they'd have had to trade out one of their tomato can victories out of conference for an actual opponent. To say nothing of all the other variables. You mean these teams? Wofford, Buffalo, Louisiana-Monroe (twice), Tulsa, and yes, Notre Dame? Those are the nonconference opponents for this year's Big 12 BCS teams. I believe his point is the SEC has 8 conference games to the Big 12's 9. I actually didn't catch that. Gotcha. But still, it follows this maddening narrative that the SEC is the only place that schedules cupcakes. Lord knows that doesn't happen anywhere else.
  16. The Saints won't seriously lose again this year at St Louis will they? In a sandwich game between 2 against the Panthers? Last time they played there, Drew as sacked 6 times.

  18. Fire, meet gasoline.
  19. Seriously. I do think he's a very good coach, but let's see how he does without Johnny Football before he is considered coaching elite.
  20. She's hot in that country singer type of way. Sure she's naturally very pretty, but a little bland.
  21. Finally some good news this offseason But for God's sake, don't type f u l l b a c k.
  22. OMC will probably laugh at this as much as I am, but there are rumors of Houston Nutt to the Arkansas State job. Dear God I despise that man.
  23. It's all about Castro and Rizzo this year for me. If they fail to progress, it means our "core" isn't even here yet. That is depressing to think about.
  24. I just realized James Franklin is black... Sort of Pitbull-like.
  25. The pressure on the next head coach of Alabama after Nick Saban will be already ridiculous. Imagine the pressure on top of that if you are a black guy, like Strong or Franklin or Sumlin. No, seriously.
