  1. Until recently, Arkansas' official site was Pigsooie.com.
  2. This is something that has me concerned. I have to believe that with the new rules there will be more smaller guys driving the lane, which means a shot blocker as the last line of defense to the goal will be more important than ever. Nolan's team were good but not great until he got Darnell Robinson and Lee Wilson, two 7 footers. Pressure basketball is great and all but you still need an eraser in the paint.
  3. GlassCow, you mention Bama and FSU. Bama is in very elite company historically, especially with the recent dominance. Florida State has the advantage of being in part of the best recruiting territory in the country. If Nebraska can look to an example of returning to prominence, maybe Tennessee would be similar. Arkansas is not on that level nationally, but what they seem to be trying to do with some success is recruit to the strengths that they have. With Bielema, they have been able to do well with interior lineman using examples from his past (Joe Thomas, JJ Watt, etc.). Lord knows that they can't recruit based on the last 2 years.
  4. I think you are a little misguided on this point. The fact is that anything NU can offer students can be matched by probably a dozen or more other schools. It's not about what it can offer that others cannot match, because that really doesn't exist. There are only a handful of programs that sell themselves in recruiting. Nebraska is not among them. I'm an unrepentant homer when it comes to the University of Nebraska. People from outside of the state will never understand, and I don't expect them to. I appreciate your passion for NU, but I think that is exactly the problem there. People outside of the state of Nebraska don't know about what you're describing. There aren't nearly enough local recruits there that might get it for that to be a big enough factor. Nebraska has much work to do to return to a national recruiting power. Success begets success.
  5. When he leaves to coach Virginia or whoever else starts waving money at him, his kind of players are going to hate him. And after he leaves you'll actually be relieved. Sure I may be a homer, but I don't think Mike Anderson will be going anywhere for awhile. Nolan and Rose Richardson, who still live just outside of Fayetteville, have been a major part of his life since 1980. Arkansas has largely been his home since 1985 and he has children and grandchildren there. He's always said Arkansas is his "dream job" and everything around his life supports that notion. The UA/Coach Anderson history goes WAY back, and they know exactly what they're getting with him. If I were a Mizzou fan I would probably have a bad taste in my mouth about Anderson too, but nothing in his career suggests that he is a job hopper. He has a very long leash at Arkansas, because he's loved up there but also because fans wish he would have gotten the job after Nolan was fired. He was more or less the de facto Razorback coach after around 1994 and Hog fans see him as a return to Arkansas basketball in its heyday.
  6. Just a guess on my part but possibly Seattle and Texas? If his market continues to not develop and/or his price drops to $20-25 millionish a year I think the Pirates should/could make a run at him. Then move Alvarez to 1B and Walker to 3B Trade for Shark and that's a helluva team.
  7. Mike Anderson has finally gotten a team full of his kind of players at Arkansas. Not saying they'll be good, but the similarities to Nolan Richardson's third team are interesting.
  8. Seeing that play from Section 637 it certainly looked like a clothesline, and on the jumbotron it looked like a clothesline. When I saw it on TV at home, it looked like a clean hit, just a hard hit. At the same time, that no call on the intentional grounding from Kaepernick was a terrible call. No safety, but he did throw it away from the 2 yard line. Great win. Sean Payton has played this head game with Garrett Hartley before. Hartley struggles, Payton brings in other kickers to compete for the job, he puts Hartley into a high pressure situation, Hartley gets his head right. Let's hope it lasts.
  9. They're not going to lose out but I imagine 5-11 would get you somewhere around picks 5-8. Wouldn't that mean Cutler's exit? If the Bears are in a position to draft a top flight QB, Jay has to be gone, right? Not saying this is right or wrong, just how it seems it will shake down.
  10. You know who is even hotter in person than in pictures? Dita Von Teese. Wow. My gf is an acquaintance with her and I nervously shook her hand like a school boy. Sexy as hell.
  11. Best thing about that story: Sinbad? Now it's a party!
  12. Yulman Stadium, opening Fall of 2014. Capacity of 30,000. If you are familiar with the campus, it is being built right behind the baseball complex, right on campus. I do know Georgia Tech and Rutgers are coming here next season.
  13. Your current signature is also stupidly sized and should be censored. Point taken. Carry on.
  14. I watched Favre play in that stadium. That place used to be rocking. That pic remnds me of the Dome at Tulane games. On a sidenote, Tulane opens Yulman Stadium next fall, the first time they'll be back on campus since the Superdome opened and they tore down old Tulane Stadium. Yes, I am a pumped.
  15. Wow. On the one hand there is this thread. On the other hand I get censored for putting up a mock Sistine Chapel/Drew Brees picture as my sig. Oh well, not my board so not my rules.
  16. Holy God.
  17. That poster was on my wall when I was in college. Everybody loved Swilling and Jackson, but Sam Mills was my favorite of the four. I'll be in the Dome tomorrow. I rode my bike through the Quarter today and there's tons of Niner fans in town.
  18. Verne actually got it right for once when he said it's probable that his knee was down, but that there isn't enough evidence.
  19. Is anyone else watching this Georgia/Auburn game? Wow!
  20. The reaction of J.R. Smith is perfect. Please, keep these coming.
  21. http://ts2.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4810428986687865&w=277&h=157&c=7&rs=1&pid=1.7 It's not the years. It's the mileage.
  22. Also, a friend of mine is a special assistant or something on a production crew here. She was handling Nick Nolte last spring and said he was the most unique person she had ever met. He has gotten to be very old, very quickly. One moment he would forget names, where he was or what day it was all the time. The next moment he was completely on top of his game when the camera was on. He would flirt with her and try to charm her daily, but he was always gracious and well mannered at the same time. A very interesting and cool guy she would say.
  23. I saw Guy Fieri do his show for Food Network at a poboy shop/dive bar in my neighborhood. Basically, he was a total douche and thought he was a big time celeb, and was basically shouted out of the place by all the day drunks. His frosted tips were pristine however.
  24. I tossed those 3 back and forth, but the fact that A&M has the state of Texas and Louisiana next door to recruit from makes that a better situation in my mind. Georgia? That's debatable. Nebraska largely has to recruit nationally to be successful because there isn't a regional recruiting base to count on, then couple that with the fact that Georgia is always on national TV. Most recruits don't even know who Tom Osborne is. Not trying to bash the program. Hell, I'd love for Arkansas to be anywhere near where Nebraska is. Have you been happy with Bielema? I'm asking because he did good thing with Wiskey but I just never cared for him. The hire was a surprise to me. You are unfortunately right about my program - 97 was a long time ago. My opinion on Bielema before he ever coached a game was that he had damned well better win because he wasn't going to get by on personality. Then again I am a 41 year old dude and recruits seem to really like the guy. Petrino was an offensive genius, but he didn't exactly leave the cupboard full with talent. There's that, along with the fact that these same players basically gave up last season and they're switching from a pass first offense to a power football team. He gets a pass, for now. All of the playmakers on this team are underclassmen, many true freshmen. I live in New Orleans, away from the 24/7 media blitz on the Hogs. The mouthbreathers on the radio shows are really starting to get loud, I hear.
