  1. Dammit, that 1989 team. They had 2 MVPs, a young Maddux, Grace and Dunston, a solid closer, the ROY and his runner up in the outfield. The years that followed were my first big reality check as a Cub fan.
  2. No Shawon Dunston?!? He was and is my favorite Cub of all time. Close behind: Wood, Jody Davis, Maddux.
  3. Don't know if this was sarcasm, but this is just a case of Roddy White's agent cleaning up a mess after his client embarrassed himself. Roddy wasn't such a stand up guy initially.
  4. Any reports on how Edwards pitches would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Maybe that's why the balls explode off of his bat.
  6. Is Fred gone forever?
  7. Meaning, if his shoulder feels ok it's Olt. If not, it's Valbuena.
  8. RE: Sveum Wondered about this when they got rid of Sveum. He was perfect for what they needed in the beginning-toughness, accountability, etc. When you lose 90 plus games a year, that style has to wear pretty thin. Renteria may be the perfect fit for here and now.
  9. This was my initial thought as well. I have to wonder if Baez would just go ahead and start the season at 2B in Iowa if they had confidence in Castro.
  10. I'm still angry at them for 1995 with Cameron Dollar and the O'Bannon brothers.
  11. I envy you guys getting to go to Wrigley anytime you want. I'm resigned to getting psyched when Iowa comes to Zephyr Field.
  12. But is it Olt that is traded? I've wondered who is going to be the odd man out. There's 4 infield positions to be filled and Rizzo, Valbuena, Castro, Baez, Alcantara and Olt. For argument's sake, Rizzo is in the conversation assuming Olt could play 1B.
  13. I mostly agree that they got it right, but couldn't Roy Williams have made the argument that his player saw the 1.6 on the clock and thought he had time to get it across half court? no, he couldn't make that argument at all They don't call him the best color man in the game for nothing folks.
  14. I mostly agree that they got it right, but couldn't Roy Williams have made the argument that his player saw the 1.6 on the clock and thought he had time to get it across half court?
  15. Please start Valbuena at 2B to start the season.
  16. Anyone hear this?
  17. Carrie Muskatt was just in the booth and mentioned that Almora was on a much faster track than people may think. What's the fastest case scenario? This September?
  18. Almost like their entire conference season The SEC was wretched this year, but Tennessee, Kentucky and of course Florida are 3 teams that I would not want to play right now. I thought Arkansas might be one of those teams peaking at the right time too but then we [expletive] the bed against Auburn and SC.

  20. Duke Blue Devil basketball fans are the same as Cardinals fans. They are in love with themselves as a fanbase and think they are the only team who does things "the right way". How completely unsurprising that they turn out to be whiny douchebags when they lose.
  21. and they signed Ryan Fitzpatrick. Do they see Fitzpatrick as a starter? Does this mean they don't pick a QB at #1? No and No. Fitzpatrick (or Keenum) will likely be a placeholder for Bortles. I don't know. They may be thinking that these QBs in the draft aren't worth a high pick and are trying to trade down. But then again, it's the Raiders so who the hell knows.
  22. I still have that SI with that picture and "BEANBALL" as the headline. That's the first game I watched where I even thought about getting hit like that in the batter's box.
  23. This is essentially where I am at too. Olt's success almost signifies a reversal of fortune for us, and I don't just mean in a meatball-like way but in player development and seeing things (no pun intended) that might be fixable in a player. More optimism from me though about the big 5. Again, the Cards have great player development, which is something I am hopeful that we now have too. Argue about the means all we want, but the fact is that this organization desperately needed a serious influx of star talent and now it's there. These not-quite-elite guys coming up would supplement our big core. So yeah, that's a ton of things that have to go right, but I am still fairly optimistic.
  24. Was perfect on the day until UConn beat St Joe's. I had NDSU and NC St winning. Oh well.
  25. Back in 1998 I had my 3 fractures on the right side of my face. To this day I still get squeamish about getting hit by anything on that side. I can't imagine playing baseball without thinking about it constantly. Tony Canigliaro syndrome.
