From the "What a difference a year makes" department: Currently, the Houston Astros are 66-66. If they have this record at this time last year, they're 1.5 games behind the first place 68-65 Cubs. This year, they're 16 games out.
Marquis probably deserves some credit for getting through five scoreless, especially after Zambrano and Lilly were unable to do so the previous two nights.
I'd really enjoy an AL playoffs of the White Sox, Twins, Rays and Angels. Some fresh faces in a constant sea of Boston and New York media darlings. Plus, I think Boston is the most dangerous team in the AL.
Got a feeling since the Saturday game is national, the Cubs/Phillies series is certain to have plenty of mention of the instant replay. Fortunately, Wrigley isn't a very necessary replay stadium with the baskets.
I hadn't noticed this, but thanks to this weekend, the Cubs have actually allowed the fewest runs in the NL along with scoring the most. 2nd overall in scoring in the majors, 3rd overall in runs allowed in the majors.
did i miss like a whole month of baseball or something? you are right, it's not a lock. Only 89% certainty according to BP. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php The Cubs are pretty close and show no signs of letup. They are pounding the teams the bad teams as you should when you are in 1st place. Depending on how much Yeti has been drinking, he may have actually missed a whole month of baseball and still thinks the Brewers and Cubs are tied, though. :)
