  1. I really like this game, do you guys play OSU this year? Yes, Wisconsin plays Ohio State, Penn State and Illinois all at Wisconsin this year.
  2. But looking at the schedule, did they look like a better team than Minnesota, Green Bay, Philadelphia, Tennessee, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Tampa or Detroit? Detroit was a better team last year, and New Orleans was looking to be much improved. The Bears didn't look much like an improved team. All those 8 teams? Those were the home games. The only real winnable games looked to be the ones vs. Detroit, and the games at Atlanta and St. Louis. Sure, the possibility existed of stealing wins against unprepared teams, but 7 wins against that slate was asking a bit much, I think. Considering the offseason, preseason, and line issues, they looked to be one of the 4-5 worst teams in the NFC, and the rest played in the NFC West. Now? If they play like they did Sunday all year, they could sneak into the upper half of the NFC with Dallas, Philly, New York, Green Bay, Minnesota, and whoever the best team in the NFC South decides to be (NO/Carolina/Tampa).
  3. Here's something that I found interesting--the 10 teams that have bullied patsies most often over the last 10 years. Three guesses as to the conference that has the most entrants in that top 10 list. Although, Minnesota has apparently only played 2 BCS non-conference opponents over the past 10 years, which is frightful. Then again, the way they've played the past few years, they really don't need to be making the schedule more difficult.
  4. Kind of fun that the Bears get to play the two teams that last knocked them out of the playoffs to start the year. Albeit different teams. I'm concerned about Rosario duplicating his effort from this week. I think a key to the Bears looking so good on defense was Dallas Clark going down so early. The Bears' D has historically been picked apart in the flat to the tight end, and that ended up just not being possible with Clark out, allowing them to focus on avoiding the run and the deep ball. Once the Colts went to Wayne in the flat, they were able to move the ball pretty well. After that, I'm not sure whether the Bears adjusted to that, or the Colts abandoned the strategy, because it basically stopped happening after the third quarter.
  5. that is some hardcore linking going on right there. I like to get all the pointless opinions confined to one post. :)
  6. It's official, Brady is out for the year. NFL talking heads already looking for a new bandwagon to hop on.
  7. Really? Not saying you're wrong, but where have you read/heard that talk? Peter King, specifically. Not the most reputable of sources or analysis, but at least getting a mention in the upper echelon already.
  8. The Bears are somehow already on the "Best of the NFC" radar after Sunday's game, along with the entire NFC East, New Orleans and Carolina. I'm still approaching the season with guarded optimism and low expectations to this point. They could still very easily be 1-3 after four weeks, and yet still not be a bad team.
  9. Yeah, would have been quite a day for suicide pools had New England, Indy, Jacksonville and San Diego all lost week 1.
  10. My expectations have been officially revised from historic failure to the 2001 Carolina Panthers. In that season the Panthers began the season with a road win vs. the previous year's NFC Championship runner up (the Vikings), only to lose the next 15 games in disappointing fashion. I also like to keep expectations as low as possible for as long as possible to avoid expecting too much.
  11. Just a bit :) The biggest surprise on the game was the running game on a whole. Forte was awesome but the O Line was making nice blocks and executing the plays as well. Just hope they can continue to do so because Orton is gonna need all the time he can get if he thinks he can pass. Certainly looking a lot more like a 1-15 season after last night.
  12. Maybe I'm just a huge fan of schadenfreude, but I'm really looking forward to Bill Simmons next NFL column.
  13. I'm going to have to amend my 0-16 preseason prediction, I think.
  14. From the "I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin" department: The NFC went 3-1 against the AFC today, beating the Chargers, Colts and Browns. The NFC team to lose to an AFC team was the Seahawks.
  15. They were going to try to catch the Bears with 12 men on the field. But the Colts should go for it here. Possessions are scarce, and the Colts have a good chance of picking up a 4th and 1. If you don't get it, you don't get it. But you can't meekly punt the ball away down 2 scores. Sure go ahead. GO FOR IT. That's fine. The math says to go for it every single time in that situation. 1st quarter, 4th quarter, it doesn't matter. Stupid play call though. If your math includes the "Bears offense sucks" factor, then may I suggest you recalculate? Nah, the average NFL play goes 2.5 yards. Any time you only have to get one yard on a play, it's worth it unless you're pinned back on your own 1/3 of the field. At midfield, the chances of gaining 1 yard outweigh the benefit of the average punt distance (~30 yds) from that point.
  16. Tight spiral on that one....yeesh.
  17. I hear you, but I think they would have just taken the DOG. That there is a valid point that I failed to consider.
  18. Once they lined up for that 4th down play, there was no way they were faking it. They'd be out of TOs, which wouldn't be worth it to try to draw an offsides.
  19. Is it just me or does it sound like there are a lot of Bears fans at the game in Indy?
  20. I'd say there's no way that gets overturned, but I thought the previous fumble would be overturned without a doubt, so what do I know. Maybe they'll call him down by contact.
  21. you're not stupid, just irrational after tough losses. I know I'm being irrational. That's why I'm asking you, no one is worried that we've very quickly knocked off over a third of our lead in a week, and we are going to be playing a really really difficult schedule over the last 19 games? No, because sure, it's 8 games over the Phillies (maybe 7!), but the Cubs don't blow a playoff spot if just the Phillies happen to pass them. Three teams have to pass the Cubs for them to blow a playoff spot.
  22. Abandon rational thought, all ye who enter here. Everything has to be completely one thing or completely another, as there is no grey area. It's always one guy's fault, and the entire board must feel the same way about it.
  23. So, any schools have two wins against BCS schools besides East Carolina and Northwestern? :)
  24. 120 is generally considered a red flag anywhere. You appear to be in the same mindset of many Cub fans in 2003. Anything to get to the playoffs. No big deal to go 120, those guys are horses and will be fine.
  25. Jason Marquis deserves at least a golf clap tonight for being effective for 6+ innings, something that most of the rotation for one reason or another has been unable to do in the past week.
