  1. Maybe I'm just a huge fan of schadenfreude, but I'm really looking forward to Bill Simmons next NFL column.
  2. I'm going to have to amend my 0-16 preseason prediction, I think.
  3. From the "I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin" department: The NFC went 3-1 against the AFC today, beating the Chargers, Colts and Browns. The NFC team to lose to an AFC team was the Seahawks.
  4. They were going to try to catch the Bears with 12 men on the field. But the Colts should go for it here. Possessions are scarce, and the Colts have a good chance of picking up a 4th and 1. If you don't get it, you don't get it. But you can't meekly punt the ball away down 2 scores. Sure go ahead. GO FOR IT. That's fine. The math says to go for it every single time in that situation. 1st quarter, 4th quarter, it doesn't matter. Stupid play call though. If your math includes the "Bears offense sucks" factor, then may I suggest you recalculate? Nah, the average NFL play goes 2.5 yards. Any time you only have to get one yard on a play, it's worth it unless you're pinned back on your own 1/3 of the field. At midfield, the chances of gaining 1 yard outweigh the benefit of the average punt distance (~30 yds) from that point.
  5. Tight spiral on that one....yeesh.
  6. I hear you, but I think they would have just taken the DOG. That there is a valid point that I failed to consider.
  7. Once they lined up for that 4th down play, there was no way they were faking it. They'd be out of TOs, which wouldn't be worth it to try to draw an offsides.
  8. Is it just me or does it sound like there are a lot of Bears fans at the game in Indy?
  9. I'd say there's no way that gets overturned, but I thought the previous fumble would be overturned without a doubt, so what do I know. Maybe they'll call him down by contact.
  10. you're not stupid, just irrational after tough losses. I know I'm being irrational. That's why I'm asking you, no one is worried that we've very quickly knocked off over a third of our lead in a week, and we are going to be playing a really really difficult schedule over the last 19 games? No, because sure, it's 8 games over the Phillies (maybe 7!), but the Cubs don't blow a playoff spot if just the Phillies happen to pass them. Three teams have to pass the Cubs for them to blow a playoff spot.
  11. Abandon rational thought, all ye who enter here. Everything has to be completely one thing or completely another, as there is no grey area. It's always one guy's fault, and the entire board must feel the same way about it.
  12. So, any schools have two wins against BCS schools besides East Carolina and Northwestern? :)
  13. 120 is generally considered a red flag anywhere. You appear to be in the same mindset of many Cub fans in 2003. Anything to get to the playoffs. No big deal to go 120, those guys are horses and will be fine.
  14. Jason Marquis deserves at least a golf clap tonight for being effective for 6+ innings, something that most of the rotation for one reason or another has been unable to do in the past week.
  15. My prediction, either 16-14 Bears or 31-13 Colts. So, basically, I'd be surprised to see the Bears lose a close game.
  16. If I felt the Cubs needed to revamp the lineup (which I don't) and that any Cub would agree to hit anywhere in said lineup (which they wouldn't), I'd probably go: Theriot - with the caveat that he is no longer allowed to steal anything unless the pitcher completely ignores him and then tosses the ball to the backstop Lee Ramirez Soriano Soto Edmonds DeRosa Fukudome P
  17. Kosuke hits for the cycle. Top that. Ronny Cedeno goes 5-5 with 5 grand slams, closes the game pitching 3 perfect innings, shakes his fist in the general direction of Milwaukee, causing the Brewers to lose, and later declares himself the King of the World, a nomination the United Nations quickly approves. I still think Theriot homering is more bold. How about this: Zambrano takes a walk.
  18. Wow at Illinois somehow being the only ranked team to lose and stay ranked in both polls. Did they really look good in defeat? I suppose they did wake up somewhat in the second half.
  19. Sure, the projected borderline top 50 team beat a consensus top 20 team, but they never would beat a consensus top 10 team. And that proves how dominant the SEC is!
  20. Well...I guess a loss is scary, and they did survive to play another week, so in a roundabout way that line is true...
  21. There's probably a worse shortstop available somewhere in the minors or on waivers that may not offend Cub fans as much as Cedeno. At least for a week or so.
  22. Thanks to the Brewers win, the Pirates are eliminated from the NL Central race, and can no longer finish ahead of the Cubs. 3 down, 12 to go.
  23. Not a great throw, but you have to hold onto the ball there.
  24. Starting to look kinda like last year's game, except with even less defense.
  25. It would have to be quite good, considering they take the lead a lot and hold it almost as often.
