  1. Good read. It seems they like to go overboard with the conference tournament upsets in these though. When Cornell is getting an 11 seed this year you've probably gone too far. Yeah, they picked UC Riverside to make it out of the Big West and they're between the fourth and sixth best team in the conference. A couple of the rules the committee had from that process that I didn't know about before: - The top 3 teams in each conference can't play each other until the Final Four. - The play-in game cannot be between two traditionally black colleges (this one seems weird to me) I really like the break-neck pace of all the "vote eight"s. Wonder if I can duplicate that online this year.
  2. Chuck gets his moment in the sun. Let's see if he drags this one out to make it last.
  3. You could pm your picks to me, and I could find stats on them that would suggest they're bad picks and forward the information back to you. :)
  4. No offense to PSU fans, but this game tonight is the most winnable game Illinois has left, and I'd be extremely disappointed if they didn't win tonight. PSU has, incidentally, won the last 2 games between the teams in Champaign.
  5. I don't think my team will finish in a worse position than last year.
  6. I really don't like seeing pods where Mizzou is the highest seed and their second round matchup would be in Boise against a west coast team. Stupid OU and Memphis are going to make it impossible for them to play in KC. I think that unless a couple Pac-10 teams really make a run late, or they really overseed Gonzaga, there's undoubtedly going to be some midwestern/eastern team that will be the highest seed out in Boise/Portland. And, of course, it makes the most sense to screw over the 4 seeds, because the higher seeds deserve "better" protection. Still think UCLA and Washington will squeeze into 4 seed slots by the end of the year. Also figuring Illinois will be one of the teams "fortunate" enough to get shoved into one of those pods.
  7. At the rate this draft is going, you will all hate me by the end of the weekend.
  8. Wouldn't expect Raisin to pick for at least 90 minutes.
  9. Like last year, for instance. Illinois probably has the toughest finishing stretch of any Big Ten team for the last 5 games: PSU twice, at OSU, and home vs. Minn and MSU. However, they actually now control their own destiny to the Big Ten title and 1 seed if they win out. First step is tonight, so I really hope they come ready to play. PSU also won in Champaign against one of the Williams/Head/Brown teams That was in 2006. No Williams/Head/Powell, but Brown and Augustine were still there and that was at least as good a team as this one is this year.
  10. In the "things that likely only interest me" category...the media had their third annual mock selection committee last week, and developed this bracket. The whole process was live-blogged last year. Describes the entire selection process, from start to finish. I found it really interesting.

  12. late round sleeper? He led the AL in OPS last year! Well yeah, but for some reason most major draft sites weren't really high on him, and he wasn't anywhere near the top in CBS projections (neither of which really mean anything). Injury concerns, attitude concerns, blah blah... Of course, he is a Cub now, and I like what he's saying so far. Good pick, imo.
  13. Damn it, Bradley's gone too? So much for my list of "late round sleepers".
  14. Well, I mean, he does need a utility player. :)
  15. Ouch, Butler just took a seeding hit today with a home loss to Loyola.
  16. Best way to beat Northwestern is to let them have their way offensively for 35 minutes, then do nothing but full court press the last 5. It's a sure thing.
  17. For any Illinois fan that wanted to catch the exciting part of the game last night:
  18. You have spoken the name of the beast, and as such shall be shunned from the Illini faithful until you offer atonement for your acts of lunacy.
  19. They'll drop themselves tomorrow if they're not checked.
  20. Seeing the words "Rich Harden" and "POP" in the same sentence makes me nervous.
  21. So guys, how's the game going...holy crap!
  22. I don't know if you're still awake, but it's being aired at midnight tonight out here on ESPN2. Thanks for this, I actually got it recorded this time. I'll have to watch it later today.
  23. Damn it, my wife turned off the DVR to watch something else. I really hope they show the game again somewhere.
  24. I'm really concerned the US will lose tonight. I don't know why, just a feeling.
