  1. So you're saying maybe they had some new kind of flaxseed oil to try on his arm to increase his strength and velocity?
  2. Buntalicious! [holding back the temptation to make a really rude comment] Did it involve the Cubs record when the #2 hitter executes a sac bunt? :)
  3. It probably would work out better for the Cubs to just keep winning, and not rely on other teams being bad.
  4. That was 3 innings ago. I know, I just happened to open MLB.com and saw it on the front page. Well, then it didn't just happen, you just happened to notice.
  5. Using a Hawk-ism should be punishable by ban.
  6. I'm a big fan of Football Outsiders for general football information. They do a bunch of in-depth analysis, more so than any other location I've been able to find.
  7. You guys are so full of bravado right now it's ridiculous. The red kool-aid is flowing through the streets. You guys are a juggernaut and the Cubs are barely hanging on by their nails because teams are rolling over and others are turning bad just in time to play them. It's just a matter of time before they fall to the new murderer's row. Or not. Not saying you're totally wrong, but even most Cubs fans would admit you've only played two good teams since the break, and both of those were series loses. I think this weekend will tell us what kind of team the Cubs are. If they take 3 of 4 in Colorado I'll start to really worry. On the flip side, the Cubs have been blown out exactly once since the break, and played both good teams fairly even in their home parks. They're 12-1 against all other teams, while scoring has been way up, which was the primary issue in the first half for the club. Truthfully, the Cubs are a couple unlikely bullpen implosions away from being 16-3 since the break, and that's about as well as any team can play at this point.
  8. The sound implies that there was close proximity to the point. That was a gulf of a miss.
  9. Easy win. Tying run never even came up to bat there in the 9th.
  10. He's a tool, so is Al for that matter. I can't help but think you either quoted the wrong post, or posted to the wrong board.
  11. Apparently Gorzo needs to share some secrets with the rest of the staff against Votto.
  12. Grabow thinking to himself "Hey, I'd rather get 2 outs from Phillips than pitch to Votto, but rather than waste 4 pitches, I'll just plunk him with one pitch so I can get 2 outs with 3 pitches total."

    Week 18

Harrys Budcrew at NC Cubs Severe Tooterstorms at Quakers Galesburg Hand Sanitizers at The Fighting Manginos The Eyes of Texas at Lynx Tootielicious at Tampa Bay Rays Saber Metrics at Alamo Stealth Fuzzy Logistics at Northside Baseball Valenzuela's Screwballs at Raw Dawgs Hopefully I can win this week as it would almost guarantee a playoff spot.
  14. Before I forget, WHY DO YOU SAC BUNT WITH MILTON BRADLEY?
  15. With all the work the pen got tonight, the last thing they're going to do is go down another pitcher. And what does sending down Shark have anything to do with that? They'd more likely call up a pitcher than a bat for a day. It was a joke... It's too late on a weekend night involving drinking and the Cub bullpen to go around joking like that.

  18. Maybe we can finally move Soriano to 2nd and Fox to LF if Lou can predict where the hitter will hit the ball every time and move Soriano to the oposite position. It had nothing to do with predicting, it had everything to do with the likelihood of a play.
  19. There's plenty to get on Lou about for tonight, but the defensive switching between Baker and Soriano was probably the smartest thing he did all night.
  20. The #2 spot is more than just OBP...he needs to be able to hit and run, hit to the right side with a runner on second and less than two outs, bunt, etc etc. He obviously feels comfortable putting Blanco there if Theriot's not. Has nothing to do with being a SS. no one needs to hit and run, ever Why not? This team hits into quite a bit of DP's it seems. And also, I love aggressiveness on the basepaths....putting pressure on the opponents defense...we never do either of those things. The Cubs are league average in GIDP. They are also league average in OBP, which is related. The more runners a team gets on, the higher tendency for DPs. Outs are the most precious thing a team has on offense. Wasting them to move runners over is foolish.
  21. I know it says major league, but what of the minor league draft?
  22. A young pitcher under Dusty developing arm trouble? That's unheard of.
  23. I'm pretty content with my team, as I have decent production everywhere, with great production at a couple spots. No specific position is going to provide a huge upgrade for what I'd likely have to give up to get it, so short of making a quick flyer trade to shore up a couple spots, I'll ride the team that got me this far, and hope I keep winning.
  24. I don't think anybody's blaming Rolen for going to the Reds. The Reds are definitely this year's oddest buyers.
