  1. With all the work the pen got tonight, the last thing they're going to do is go down another pitcher. And what does sending down Shark have anything to do with that? They'd more likely call up a pitcher than a bat for a day. It was a joke... It's too late on a weekend night involving drinking and the Cub bullpen to go around joking like that.

  4. Maybe we can finally move Soriano to 2nd and Fox to LF if Lou can predict where the hitter will hit the ball every time and move Soriano to the oposite position. It had nothing to do with predicting, it had everything to do with the likelihood of a play.
  5. There's plenty to get on Lou about for tonight, but the defensive switching between Baker and Soriano was probably the smartest thing he did all night.
  6. The #2 spot is more than just OBP...he needs to be able to hit and run, hit to the right side with a runner on second and less than two outs, bunt, etc etc. He obviously feels comfortable putting Blanco there if Theriot's not. Has nothing to do with being a SS. no one needs to hit and run, ever Why not? This team hits into quite a bit of DP's it seems. And also, I love aggressiveness on the basepaths....putting pressure on the opponents defense...we never do either of those things. The Cubs are league average in GIDP. They are also league average in OBP, which is related. The more runners a team gets on, the higher tendency for DPs. Outs are the most precious thing a team has on offense. Wasting them to move runners over is foolish.
  7. I know it says major league, but what of the minor league draft?
  8. A young pitcher under Dusty developing arm trouble? That's unheard of.
  9. I'm pretty content with my team, as I have decent production everywhere, with great production at a couple spots. No specific position is going to provide a huge upgrade for what I'd likely have to give up to get it, so short of making a quick flyer trade to shore up a couple spots, I'll ride the team that got me this far, and hope I keep winning.
  10. I don't think anybody's blaming Rolen for going to the Reds. The Reds are definitely this year's oddest buyers.
  11. That's it. They've already played the rescheduled Braves, Astros and Cardinals rainouts.
  12. At this rate there are going to be like 6 teams with first round picks next year.
  13. The worst part of it is having to deal with the fans. You wouldn't know because you don't live in Chicago. Yes, I am kidding...
  14. Also, if the Cubs are facing Peavy in the World Series this year, I'd be ecstatic for two reasons: 1) The Cubs are in the World Series! 2) The good teams in the AL didn't make the World Series!
  15. I'm not very hopeful that the Cubs are going to be buying much of anything for next year, as they have over 100 million being paid to 6 players.
  16. Now he can go watch the Cubs play while not pitching for the Sox.
  17. heheh...wow $5 says Rolen ends up on yet another team at the waiver deadline when the Reds are 10 games out. According to MLBTR, Rolen still has to approve the deal. The Reds are already 10 games out.
  18. Morning people, maybe? I got nothing. The Cubs are unique in all the day games, but the park itself varies wildly from week to week as to whether it functions as a hitters park or a pitchers park, specifically based on the wind. It's difficult to build a team around that kind of volatility to do anything to "take advantage" of it.
  19. Hendry's biggest flaw, IMO, is overpaying for middling relievers and bench players. I could definitely see Hendry extending Grabow to some kind of a 3 year deal worth 3+ mil per.
  20. After the playoff experiences of 2007 and 2008, I actually yearn for the success of 2003.
  21. I'd do Ichiro for Bay straight up. I think Bay is the best player involved in that deal. He's been in a slump lately, but it's a walk year and he's hitting cleanup in a loaded lineup.
  22. Especially beating FLA and COL would not only help us on the NL Central, but also trying to distance ourselves in the WC race, if the NL Central is lost. If the Cubs manage to put distance between themselves and Florida/Colorado, the NL Central will not be lost by the end of the trip.
  23. So the Cubs series caused the turnover of 4 pitchers for the Astros in 4 days.
  24. I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy: their starters are well rested. :)
