  1. Well, after the umpire calls out on fan interference, that guy would be run out of town on a rail worse than Bartman, I'd hope.
  2. I think the biggest reason I wouldn't want Lou gone would be that the replacement would more than likely be either Brenly or Sandberg, and I'd much prefer Lou to either.
  3. The only thing I could think of is to avoid some kind of defamation suit, saying that the story was overblown by the media.

    Golf

Early first round PGA championship action going on now, Tiger Woods currently tied for the lead at -4 with 4 holes to finish up yet on the day. Today's amazing Tiger stat: Since the beginning of 2006, Tiger Woods has a higher winning percentage than 10 different MLB teams.
  5. Wait, wait, wait...Ron Zook is the only Big Ten coach other than JoePa to coach his team to the Rose Bowl?
  6. Howard kills righties though. Howard vs. Gregg is a matchup I do not like.
  7. Gregg in. If the Phillies don't score here, the Cubs HAVE to win.
  8. Color me concerned about someone other than Marshall coming in to face Utley-Howard-Ibanez.
  9. Who else is available? Kosuke is already in, then its Miles, Koyie Hill, Aramis Ramirez (hurt). Am I missing anyone on this horrid bench of ours? Fontenot
  10. So help me, if Theriot sacrifices...
  11. Ramirez being out due to injury and Fukudome being out due to stupidity really hurts the overall lineup.
  12. You're right, Fred. It should count for 2 outs. :)
  13. I like the rest of what you said, but I think the bolded would be pretty difficult. There'd have to be split second decision making on challenges. The only other alternative would be to treat all close calls as fair balls and force teams to challenge to get foul rulings right. Well, either that or a "do over" (which is what they do in tennis).
  14. If we're truly interested in getting calls right while not prolonging the game too extensively, this is what I'd like to see done: - All ball/strike calls are made electronically. The home plate ump's job is to determine when the ball hit the bat, the player, or the dirt (on case of dropped 3rd strikes and such) and plays at the plate and that's it. - A challenge system is implemented for fair/foul calls and in/out of the park calls similar to tennis. The result is immediately provided electronically to the umpires via one of the many screens at the park. In cases where the umpire initially calls a dead ball play (foul ball or home run) that is reversed to a live ball result (fair ball in play), the result is determined by standard rulings (reversed home run is a ground rule double, deep outfield fair ball is a ground rule double, shallow outfield fair ball is a ground rule single, etc). - Umpires still make judgment calls on tag plays, catches and base plays.

    week 19

Also, big battle for first place in the west. I think my whole team is even going to play this week.

    Week 18

Lowrie to DL, Cruz to bench (day to day), Garrett Jones to utility.
  17. I agree with the Giants being at the top. The Rockies' staff has a better team ERA, ERA+ and WHIP than the Phillies. The Phillies have more strikeouts, though. If Hamels gets dominant again, I might go Phillies over Rockies, but otherwise I think the Colorado staff is better. I put the Phillies over the Rockies strictly due to the acquisition of Cliff Lee, who significantly upgrades the overall rotation, and should lower the numbers quite a bit in the second half.
  18. Based purely on stats, the Cubs are superior to every one of those staffs except the Dodgers. LA and the Giants are the only two staffs that have better overall numbers than the Cubs. The Cardinals have a better team WHIP than the Cubs, though. I'd probably rank them: Dodgers Cubs Cards Rockies Phillies Including the Giants, I'd probably go Giants Dodgers Cubs Cards Phillies Rockies Offensively, though, I'd likely go Phillies Dodgers Cards Cubs Rockies Giants

  20. 9 of 11 Big Ten teams received at least 1 vote, indicating, as usual, nobody has any idea what's going to happen in the Big Ten beyond PSU and OSU this year.

    Week 18

Good week for both Bay and Cruz to be practically out the entire week. Bay did manage to come back for one game, injuring himself hitting a HR.
  22. Yeah sure. Nice bluff. And if does go through with it, I hope the NFL owners collude against his entitled ass and don't draft him at all next year. It worked so well for Mike Williams (although his sit-out year was due mostly to a poor decision to enter the draft when ineligible)...
  23. In order, 1. Evan Longoria 2. Felix Hernandez 3. Chad Billingsley 4. Ryan Howard 5. Pick from Ellsbury, Wieters, Halladay depending on what the rest of your league is doing regarding keepers, i.e. if there are going to be no good catchers draftable, keep Wieters.
