  1. For those that care, here's a fairly good estimation of what the BCS standings will look like next week, barring weird happenings (it's missing one computer rating and one is a week old): 1. LSU, 1.6 2. Alabama, 1.73 3. Oklahoma, 3.33 4. Boise State, 5 5. Oklahoma State, 5.73 6. Wisconsin, 5.93 7. Clemson, 7.4 8. Stanford, 8 9. Michigan, 10.6 10. Arkansas, 12 11. Oregon, 12.27 12. Georgia Tech, 13 13. Illinois, 14.33 14. Nebraska, 14.6 15. Kansas State, 15.67 16. South Carolina, 16.27 17. West Virginia, 17.47 18. Arizona State, 18.87 19. Texas, 19.07 20. Virginia Tech, 19.87 21. Baylor, 22 22. Auburn, 23.13 23. Texas A&M, 23.93 24. Florida, 24.67 25. Michigan State, 25.67
  2. So, then faux BCS standings with the Harris poll: 1. LSU, 1.6 2. Alabama, 1.73 3. Oklahoma, 3.33 4. Boise State, 5 5. Oklahoma State, 5.73 6. Wisconsin, 5.93 7. Clemson, 7.4 8. Stanford, 8 9. Michigan, 10.6 10. Arkansas, 12 11. Oregon, 12.27 12. Georgia Tech, 13 13. Illinois, 14.33 14. Nebraska, 14.6 15. Kansas State, 15.67 16. South Carolina, 16.27 17. West Virginia, 17.47 18. Arizona State, 18.87 19. Texas, 19.07 20. Virginia Tech, 19.87 21. Baylor, 22 22. Auburn, 23.13 23. Texas A&M, 23.93 24. Florida, 24.67 25. Michigan State, 25.67
  3. So the Raiders oblige by throwing an incomplete pass to stop the clock after Houston used up their last timeout.
  4. Texans just kicked a field goal down 8 with 2 minutes to play. So, they went from needing a touchdown to...needing a touchdown.
  5. Suicide watch on suicide pools today.
  6. I continue to have no clue who the 4th best team in the NFC is, and it could still very well be the Bears.
  7. So, without the Harris Poll (and waiting on an updated A&H rating), here's what the BCS rankings would look like today: 1. Alabama, 1.6 2. LSU, 1.9 3. Oklahoma, 3.5 4. Boise State, 5 5. Oklahoma State, 5.6 6. Wisconsin, 6.9 7. Clemson, 7.1 8. Stanford, 8.5 9. Michigan, 10.9 10. Arkansas, 12.5 11. Georgia Tech, 13.5 12. Oregon, 13.9 13. Illinois, 14.5 14. Kansas State, 15 15. Nebraska, 15.4 16. South Carolina, 16.9 17. West Virginia, 18.2 18. Texas, 18.6 19. Arizona State, 18.8 20. Virginia Tech, 20.8 21. Auburn, 21.7 22. Baylor, 22.5 23. Texas A&M, 24.4 24. Florida, 24.5 25. Washington, 26.6
  8. Copied and pasted from their site. So, as sure as I am about the other ones. Those are from last week. Well, I'll just roll with it for now then until they update. That explains Texas.

  10. As a preview of what the BCS rankings may look like, here are the computer BCS rankings for this week: Sagarin Billingsley: Massey: Colley: Anderson & Hester: The last one, Wolfe ratings, won't be posted until next week.
  11. In the perpetual futility stats department, this is only the third time since the Big Ten was formed in 1953 that Illinois was ever as many as 3 games better than Ohio State in a season. They've never been more than that.
  12. Oh, and after that disaster, it'll be interesting to see how tOSU responds next week in Champaign, and if they'll get some of those extra suspended players back.
  13. I really don't think the Big Ten is that bad. Sure, the SEC and Big 8 have been unquestionably better, but Wisconsin is deservedly in the national championship discussion, and there are likely 5 other top 25 teams at varying levels (Nebraska, Michigan, Illinois, MSU, maybe Ohio State when eligible), and PSU, Iowa and Northwestern aren't terrible. Minnesota and Indiana are avert-your-eyes bad, though.
  14. Bleh, and the 5th one goes in.
  15. Dallas has 4 shots total midway through the second period.
  16. It seems like a game plan of "stack 9 in the box and dare Denard to beat you by throwing" wouldn't be that hard to pull off, and yet nobody's been able to do it yet this year. Although, NW was game last week until the 4th quarter, too.
  17. Florida? They can beat Florida. I'm working under the assumption that Illinois' best case scenario here is a loss to Wisconsin and a berth in the Capital One Bowl against SEC team #3. So, Florida/Arkansas/Auburn. I just don't think they're in that league at this point, but their schedule is going to end up playing them into a bowl opponent bigger than they can handle.
  18. I can't wait until Illinois finishes 11-2 on the season and loses by 50 to Wisconsin and Florida.
  19. Al won championships. Long ago, but he did win. So did Wirtz. They bought the team in 1954, and won it all in 1961.
  20. I'd say about a 10% chance. I took a quick grid of the worst four teams in each league against the four playoff teams in each league (so HOU/CHC/SD/FLA vs PHI/MIL/ARI/STL and MIN/SEA/BAL/KC vs NYY/TEX/DET/TB). The bad teams won about 1/3 of the games overall, won 3 of the 32 series, and tied four others. None of the bad teams won any season series that went beyond 10 games (so intradivisional), and only one tied such a series (BAL vs TB was 9-9). The longer the series, though, the less the chance the bad team wins it.
  21. Second bowl-eligible team in the country, after GT squeaked by Maryland 21-16 earler.
  22. I wonder if Raiders fans feel like Blackhawks fans did after Wirtz died.
  23. Nice recovery after the rocky start, Illinois. Maybe you're not the least impressive undefeated team in the country anymore.
  24. Honest question: when was the last time Illinois played Notre Dame in football? (I know they've never beaten ND, but it has to have been forever and a day since they've played)
  25. Mostly irrelevant but funny: Illinois could become the first bowl-eligible team in the country this weekend.
