  1. I'd say Ricky Gutierrez, but he wasn't on the Cubs until 2000, even though his most memorable moment for me came in 1998.
  2. It's funny, though, because I'm not so sure I wouldn't rather have Ventura as a Cubs manager than Sandberg. The manager's best quality in baseball is an ability to not muck things up by overmanaging, so hey, maybe Ventura can do that.
  3. Robin Ventura Oops, that was an obscure 90's White Sox player.
  4. I remain wholly convinced that he has no idea how his 2005 team won the World Series.
  5. I'm not sure which Kenny Williams quote is funnier, that Ventura was at the top of his search list from the get-go, or that he wanted to get him quickly before some other team did.
  6. Does anyone have any idea what Ventura has even done since he retired 7 years ago?
  7. I remember when the Tigers did something like this a while back. It didn't end well.
  8. omg He's better paid, more well-liked, probably had more and better gals then you, and when it's all said and done and it's in the history books he will be remembered as a good manager. And no one will remember you. DUSTY BUSTERS zz thorn was the worst hopefully he died in a one car accident Was that the guy that tried to argue that drunk driving was safe because he hadn't killed anyone else while drunk driving yet?
  9. Uhh...Brian Roberts, as has already been mentioned like 10 times in this thread?
  10. Just waiting for the day when SSR gets bored enough to just have a whole thread to himself.
  11. Well, sure, but did he sleep with Cindy Sandberg?
  12. It's like LeBron and Bosh all over again.
  13. Hillbillies and Rednecks
  14. The Cubs need more VORP and less derp.
  15. Friedman with triple the budget is basically Friedman with more room for error. I'm hoping the Rays ownership does something silly that makes him want to leave.
  16. Now we just need the Rays ownership to decide to slash payroll again, and it's time to woo Friedman!
  17. Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith. Too bad they were only good for one year in the 80's.
  18. Are you purposely trying to make it sound like they signed 11 FA failures this year? They signed Crawford and traded for Gonzalez. One worked out spectacularly, and one failed spectacularly.
  19. Of course, he's probably the biggest reason it is one of the best run franchises in sports. Boston is panicking right now, and if the Cubs can take advantage of it, all the better. That Adrian Gonzalez signing really bit him in the ass, didn't it?
  20. ESPN's power rankings for the week are out. Illinois was as high as 13th on three ballots, and left off one ballot.
  21. Here's an interesting thought: let's just assume for a second the top 3 teams in the NFC are Green Bay, New Orleans and Detroit. Who's the 4th best team? Here's the teams to choose from: San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Philly, Dallas, New York, Washington, Atlanta, Carolina, Chicago, Arizona, Seattle, St. Louis, and Minnesota.
  22. Honestly, I don't see the NFC as that strong, and the Bears will have played arguably 3 of their toughest 4 games by next week.
  23. Sagarin...still bayesian: 1. Alabama 2. LSU 3. Wisconsin 4. Oklahoma 5. Boise State 6. Stanford 7. Oregon 8. Oklahoma State 9. Clemson 10. Texas 11. Florida 12. Michigan 13. Arkansas 14. Georgia Tech 15. Nebraska 16. Virginia Tech 17. Auburn 18. West Virginia 19. Arizona State 20. Texas Tech 21. Penn State 22. Illinois 23. South Carolina 24. Notre Dame 25. Texas A&M
  24. Until 3 of OU, Okie Lite, Bama, and LSU lose, then yes its too early to say that. Yeah, the problem for Wisconsin is that their schedule is likely going to be the weakest of all the national championship contenders. They had a very poor non-conference schedule, the Big 10 is not great this year, and missing both Michigan and Iowa will hurt them as well. It's quite possible that some 1 loss teams will end up being ahead of them in the computers. Wisconsin would get that extra game against Nebraska /MSU/Michigan in the B1G championship game, but they still probably sit behind Oklahoma and the SEC winner. :D
