  1. I mean, if I'm the Guardians, I look at the Twins and think to myself "Yes, this is a team that can be beaten, especially if we add two starters and they don't."
  2. Will the Cubs get to 100 wins this year? 29-0 will get it done.
  3. Off days after big wins are more fun.
  4. I don't want to say the Pythagorean record came through here, but...it totally came through here.
  5. The Cubs now have better playoff odds than the Texas Rangers.
  6. End of August update: Since the last post, the Cubs have gone 9-3 against the Royals, Tigers, Pirates and Brewers, which would be successfully a "good run of wins to get in a solid position". NL Contenders' records since August 19: Dodgers 9-2 Brewers 8-2 Cubs 9-3 Braves 8-3 Phillies 8-3 Dbacks 7-4 Giants 5-6 Reds 5-7 Marlins 2-8 So...separation has begun to happen. Braves and Dodgers still 10 games clear of anyone else and have the byes effectively locked up unless someone else effectively goes undefeated in September. Brewers have played out of their minds and have gained just a half game on the Cubs in 2 weeks (thanks to the last 2 days). Phillies and Cubs have bought 2 games on the rest, while the Giants, Dbacks and Reds are within a game of each other for the last playoff spot, and the Marlins have slid to 3 back of the playoffs and 5 back of the Cubs.
  7. Cubs definitely out-Brewered the Brewers this series. ... From the "not all blown saves are created equal " stat crew, Alzolays performance today snapped his consecutive save streak at 18.
  8. Which means they controlled it before today too.
  9. You want the Cubs offense to have more 1-2-3- innings?
  10. Nearly all security at public places is for theater. Make people feel safer at the expense of convenience and efficiency.
  11. That was the Cubs 11th shutout of the season, but the first since July 7 against the Yankees.
  12. Fortunately, Cobb has historically been extremely durable and has rarely missed time to injury in his career. I think he's only had 4 injuries in the last year.
  13. The 100 win dream stays alive one more day.
  14. I posted this in the Sports Media thread, but Football Outsiders is dead now. Aaron Schatz, who ran it, was hired as the chief analyst over at FTN Fantasy, so he moved all his stats over there, including DVOA. https://www.ftnfantasy.com/nfl/tools/team-total-dvoa
  15. So, it looks like Football Outsiders is going away completely, as Aaron Schatz, who ran the site, has joined FTN as their Chief Analytics Officer, and will be moving the rest of the data and analysis that was left at FO over to FTN. EDIT: By "is going away" I apparently mean it's already gone. DVOA and related statistics will now be available here: https://www.ftnfantasy.com/nfl/tools/team-total-dvoa
  16. Yeah, most athletes are square in the "White guys that never really had to work hard for anything in their life" demographic that is Trump's bread and butter.
  17. If you wanted to reverse-UMfan this game, the Cubs were one pitch away from a 6-0 shutout.
  18. Cubs back to 6 games over .500. I am skeptical of their chances of winning 100 games this season, unfortunately.
  19. Patrick Wisdom has over a .900 OPS since returning from injury in July. Morel is something in the realm of 5 for his last 50. I think it's probably good on Ross for giving him a spot start on getaway day and give Morel a day off. Good on you for noticing that, a lesser individual would probably look at Wisdom's batting average and say something ignorant.
  20. Well, I mean, he's probably not going to score any runs for the Cubs, so...
  21. If you are convinced he's the best starting option for the Cubs right now, then yes, I am skeptical you knew who he was before the article. Smyly may not be a viable MLB starter option, but Wicks is barely a viable AAA starter option at the moment.
