  1. 22 games left as of today, and projections show the win total for taking the division at 90 wins. A 14-8 finish would get the Cubs to 90 wins, so that should be the goal if they have aspirations of winning the division.
  2. The Cubs now have the same amount of wins as the Texas Rangers, who at one point were 72-48 while the Cubs were 61-58.
  3. After another solid 5-2 week by the Cubs, here are updated Fangraphs projections for the end of the season among NL contenders: ATL: 106-56 LAD: 99-63 MIL 90-72 PHI 89-73 CHC 89-73 CIN: 84-78 MIA: 83-79 ARI: 82-80 SFG: 81-81 Darn the tiebreakers, but the Cubs are effectively in a dead heat with MIL and PHI for the 3-4-5 spots. Atlanta is pulling away with the top seed, and the Dodgers despite their hiccup against the Marlins this week are still 9 games ahead of the field. It's amazing to me that the Cubs are practically on a 90-win pace after being 43-50 in mid-July.
  4. On the other hand, it helps keep a bye in play and increases the chance the Braves are coasting that last week.
  5. Don't worry, the Brewers will beat them next week.
  6. I for one am looking forward to doing a "Top 7 moments of 2023" thread.
  7. It's Michael Wacha. That is his best stuff.
  8. MLB records since July 17: EDIT: That doesn't include today's win yet, so they're 33-14 since July 17.
  9. Cubs within 1.5 games of the Brewers, 1 game of the Phils, and 16 games of the Braves.
  10. Me: Wins are the most useless individual stat in baseball. Also me: I hope Strider doesn't win tonight so Steele can take over the ML lead next outing.
  11. Bellinger with already his 4th September HR, after hitting 5 in all of August (hit 8 in July, 0 in May/June, 7 in April).
  12. Everyone in the lineup has reached base, all but Swanson have a hit (Swanson has 2 walks). They have 7 runs through 6 innings, having scored in 4 of the 6 innings, continuing to add on.
  13. I think they let him go another inning, or at least start it. Seems like a good situation for a Shane Greene inning, if not for the fact Greene was DFA.
  14. Amaya takes the 3rd pitch he sees out for a HR...maybe they should try a 4th.
  15. Bednar strikes out Contreras to end the game, Cubs currently 2 games back of Milwaukee.
  16. Cmon, Bednar, this is the whole reason the Cubs didn't trade for you.
  17. Walker pitching around Swanson to pitch to Suzuki with 2 on, 1 out. A bold strategy...
  18. Wood lasts just 2 1/3 IP, gives up effectively solid wood contact for the entirety. On comes the reliever, Walker...
  19. Finally, this Bellinger scrub gets in on the action.
  20. Seiya with the early bases-clearing double. He is on fire.
  21. Fun fact: Patrick Wisdom (.785) has a higher OPS than any Pirate hitter.
  22. Petition to change thread title to "The Grass is a Little Greener"
