NHL playoff outlook going into the last(ish) day of the season: East: - Pittsburgh and Washington have clinched the 1 and 3 seeds. - Boston and Montreal are tied for the 2 seed, though Boston has a game in hand (2 remaining). Montreal currently leads the tiebreaker. The division loser will be the 4 seed. - Toronto gets the 5 seed if they get a point in their last game or Ottawa doesn't win both games. - NY Islanders are currently in the 6 seed position with a 1 point lead over Ottawa and the Rangers, but lose all the tiebreakers and are done playing, so a point from either Ottawa or the Rangers and the Islanders are 7th, and a point from each and they're 8th. - NY Rangers hold the tiebreaker over Ottawa for 7th unless they win their last game in a shootout and Ottawa wins one in regulation. West: - Chicago, Anaheim and Vancouver have clinched the 1, 2, and 3 seeds. - St. Louis will be the 4 or 5 seed unless they lose in regulation and San Jose beats Los Angeles in OT or SO. A win and they're the 4 seed regardless. - The Los Angeles-San Jose loser will be the 6 seed, unless the above mentioned scenario happens. - Detroit is the 7 seed with a win, and is in the playoffs with a point or a regulation loss by Minnesota or Columbus. - Minnesota is in the playoffs with a win, and holds the tiebreakers over Detroit and Columbus. - Columbus needs at least a point and a Minnesota regulation loss, or a win and a Detroit regulation loss or Minnesota loss to make the playoffs. Columbus would climb to the 7 seed with a win and regulation losses by Detroit and Minnesota.
