  1. Seriously. That's some of the worst base running I've seen all year He went to tag in case the ball was caught.
  2. I hope they walk Lester after multiple pitchouts.
  3. Ground ball pitcher that is tough on righties induces ground balls, tough on righties.
  4. They were saying on the score this morning that even though Edwards is going to see higher leverage spots, he isn't going to necessarily see an innings uptick (i.e. back to back days or 4 appearances in 5 days) because they still want to be careful with him since he had some injury problems in the minors. That makes sense. I just don't want Joe Smith having any part of "late innings". You would prefer he pitched the 5th inning ?
  5. Since the All-Star break, the Cubs are 18-1 when scoring 2 runs or more. The loss was a bottom 9 walkoff against the Sox.
  6. The Spain men's basketball team is down 11 to Brazil in the 4 th quarter. Having already lost to Croatia and yet to play Argentina and Lithuania, if they can't come back here they may miss the knockout round completely.
  7. I mean, to me, dressage is like making an Olympic version of the Westminster dog show.
  8. Also Kershaw, Strasburg and Bumgarner. I don't think a pitcher is actually in contention this year. Even if they are, Kershaw won't be. He'll have missed too much time to injury. Kershaw still leads all pitchers in fWAR. With no standout offensive performer in the NL MVP can absolutely go to a pitcher, particularly with so many standout pitcher performances in the NL this season. I actually forgot Fernandez and Syndergaard also.
  9. Also Kershaw, Strasburg and Bumgarner.
  10. US Gymnastics women dominated the team qualifying, finishing 10 points ahead of second place China. To put that in perspective, there was more distance between first and second than second and last. Also, the scoring allows teams to keep their best 4 scores in each event. If the US instead were allowed to keep their worst 4 scores and every other country could continue keeping their best 4 scores, the US would still have finished first overall.
  11. Spinal fractures and a concussion, in intensive care overnight. Still functioning better than Derwood cognitively.
  12. They've done it, a 100% chance to make the playoffs now: http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx
  13. No, I am saying that losing 40 percent of your division lead in four games is meaningful. It'd be closer to 33 percent, and it wasn't meaningful when it happened a month ago and now there's even less time to catch the Cubs.
  14. Downside: Couldn't cash in on a leadoff double. Upside: 41pitches through 2 for Manaea with no walks.
  15. Javy somehow had an 8 pitch at bat where he took 2 pitches and one was called a strike.
  16. Neither of the two starters the Cubs have faced this series are still on the A's 25-man roster today. Let's make it 3 for 3 today
  17. I don't know much about Manaea, but if this pitching thing doesn't pan out he did some great work as Dustin in Stranger Things.
  18. I'm going to reverse UM this one and say that aside from a 5-15 stint in early July, the Cubs are 63-26.
  19. Apparently not, since it took a full 3 posts for you to catch up.
  20. I clearly said playoff contenders, not teams that still think they can play themselves in. Still more than 7 with 2 series vs SF, 2 vs STL, plus LAD Yes, the joke is definitely more fun when I have to slowly lead you by the hand through it. There are 4 games against the Giants, and 3 against the Dodgers. Do you get it yet, or do I have to be even less subtle about it?
  21. I count 30 games against teams that are either currently in a playoff spot or within 2.5 games of a playoff spot I clearly said playoff contenders, not teams that still think they can play themselves in.
  22. Only 7 games left against playoff contenders now that the Marlins series is over.
  23. Discuss: If Dusty doesn't ride Wood and Priors arms into the ground in 2003, do they miss the playoffs? Would that have been better for the franchise?
  24. The D-backs now have the second worst record in the majors ahead of the Braves.
  25. So it's based on "perception" not the facts on the ground...even sillier. I don't believe any of this makes sense even in your own head. Basically he equates feelings to facts, which means actual discussion is a non starter.
