  1. Or maybe we can all just relax and accept that occasionally a starter is going to give up 4 runs in a start and that isn't a disaster.
  2. Today's Cub fans are spoiled fact of the day: That single HR equals the most runs a Cub starter has given up since the all star break.
  3. The offense really went to crap after the Contreras hit.
  4. And the other 3 they led going to the 8th.
  5. So it turns out you can't win them all when you score 2 runs, but you can still come close. Oh well, time to start a new winning streak on the remains of alleged contenders. On this day, it'll be a battle of two NL Central pitchers who were on different NL Central teams last year. In the red corner, we have Mike Leake of the Cardinals, formerly of the Reds and Giants, whose highlight video consists of slow ground balls because that's the best he's got. He's a sinkerballer that works low and away to RHs and low and in to LHs and tries to induce ground balls. Basically, he's last year's second half Hammel. In the blue corner, we have John Lackey of the Cubs, who is the best pitcher on the planet if you ask him, as nothing he allows is his fault. It's astounding, really, how many rockets that aren't caught just weren't played right when Lackey is pitching, but it's only offset by the terrible job umpires do when he throws clear strikes that are called balls. He works with 3 different fastballs at 3 different speeds, a regular fastball that sits at 91, a cut fastball that comes in at about 83, and a 2-seam fastball at 93. When he really wants to get shelled, he works in a curveball that isn't really fooling anyone. He works down and away to RH batters and up and away to LH batters.
  6. Let's just make every pitcher throw 28 pitches an inning.
  7. 20-1 since the break when scoring 2 runs or more.
  8. Rizzo, because he dared take a pitch the ump called a ball.
  9. I mean, it's not Clint Hurdle. Though, I'm not putting it past Hurdle to throw at a Cub the next time the Pirates are in town because they hit Holliday.
  10. Haha, they asked Lester what the key to winning these kind of games are. Lester: "Have Lackey warming up in the pen."
  11. All Americans look the same to the CBC: [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. Even if Lackey pitches, the rotation is still normal. Today was Lackeys scheduled side sessoon. It's 11 at night, wouldn't he already have his side session in? Usually after the game. Might have gone tomorrow instead, but the point is it doesn't really affect the rotation since it's 3 days before Lackey pitches again.
  13. This post needs more credit. When was Matheny ever going to use Broxton this inning after starting with Duke?
  14. Even if Lackey pitches, the rotation is still normal. Today was Lackeys scheduled side sessoon.
  15. You mean all year. Dude has an 11% walk rate.
  16. You're right, it'll be handy to have him available the rest of the weekend with the other relievers being used tonight.
  17. Where you getting that from? Nobody is warming up.
  18. Your posts are a never ending flow of stupidity.
  19. You are wrong. Again. One good swing ends the game there, he was looking for one pitch and got it, just pulled it foul.
  20. Wasn't it probably just a double switch to put Montgomery in that spot? Yes but were talking about 1 spot in the order (7th vs 8th) measured against having Willsons bat in the 9th vs David Ross against a tough righty 6th vs 7th, which takes the possibility of him coming up with a scoring situation this inning completely out of the equation.
  21. Tough [expletive], you threw 3 pitches and we only have one other pitcher in the pen that's available. Be a team player. What are you going to do, go into the clubhouse and fire off your gun in protest? Sometimes you just don't treat every game like it's game 7 of the world series.
  22. Montgomery already with 4 pitches, not the efficiency we need here.
  23. I agree, the game threads are significantly more shitty when the Cubs play the Cards.
