  1. It took all that to even get the Mets competitive. Before that stretch, the Mets were a below .500 team with a negative run differential with all their starters healthy. Now Bartolo Colon is their second best starter and their offense is not good.
  2. Cards win, meaning that there will be meaningful NL baseball tomorrow.
  3. So since this the Cubs signed Fowler and Schwarber played 2 games and Cnotreras stepped up, but here's the actual answer with 2 games remaining: 1. Bryant .398 2. Rizzo .392 3. Fowler .364 4. Zobrist .360 5. Contreras .356 6. Soler .334 7. Russell .319 8. Baez .316 9. Montero .292 10. Heyward .278
  4. Travis Wood for game 3 starter.
  5. I see everyone in this thread is out of their minds tonight.
  6. Yes these 3 innings negate the entire season of numbers. The theory was him was flipping back into God-mode. I'm not saying he sucks. But his year long stats certainly aren't God-mode either. He's obviously very good. It's a spring training start. Drawing any meaningful conclusion from it is being reactionary.
  7. Booing Jake Arrieta at the plate...how far into the Pirates collective heads are the Cubs?
  8. Yes these 3 innings negate the entire season of numbers.
  9. Good read about Rizzo's history with Lester and Theo: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17659023/cancer-survivors-contenders-anthony-rizzo-jon-lester-bond-goes-deeper-cubs
  10. Doesn't help them at all. Plus the 3 way tie is more fun to watch.
  11. Screw it, still rooting for the 3 way tie.
  12. Lackey's season probably done now, with 188 innings for the year. When asked if he was disappointed in not getting to 200 IP, he responded "Oh, I'll get to 200 innings this year."
  13. Cubs are 14-3 against the Pirates this year, effectively killing their season.
  14. In September, the Giants are 7-5 when leading in the 9th inning.
  15. Red Sox
  16. During their weekend-long bender, Cubs clinched a better record than the Giants, Astros, Mariners, Tigers, Blue Jays and Orioles. With last night's win and Dodger loss, the Cubs clinched NLDS home field advantage (since they won the season series with the Dodgers). So NLDS Game 1 will be at Wrigley.
  17. It depends on when the tiebreaker would be played. If the tiebreaker is on Monday after the season (which would make sense as AL WC game is on Tuesday), then you actually put yourself in a position where the team's ace can go games 2 and 5, although it's highly likely that team uses their ace on Saturday or Sunday. If they use the ace on those 2 days and advance to the LDS, then the ace is set to pitch game 1 (if they don't start on short rest in WC game or come in relief). What happens if there's a 3-way tie? The 3 teams, prioritized by head to head record, choose spot A, B or C. A hosts B, the winner is the first wild card, the loser plays at C. The second winner is the second wild card team, and the wild card game is played.
  18. Cubs clichéd a better record than the Mets and Yankees today, which really only means that the Cubs can't open the playoffs in New York.
  19. Hawk and Stone have spent the entirety of the game tonight talking about the Cubs and how the only difference between the Cubs and Sox was schedule luck in May. And now they're talking about how often the best team doesn't win the World Series.
  20. Is there any doubt Lee Pace was born to play Preller in a movie that doesn't deserve to be made "A Fistful of Left Fielders: The AJ Preller Story"
  21. He's largely looked good as a starter, but it's a nice hot take. coming into tonight he walked 11 batters in 18 innings as a cub start, and his 3.93 era is mostly due to good luck on batted balls (.209 babip despite a 28% line drive rate). the poor command has been the biggest problem, which hopefully will be something that he can straighten out. And you're quoting rate stats in 18 innings of work, where one either way will fluctuate the numbers wildly. He's had 3 good starts, 1 meh start, and one bad start as a Cub, the shaky starts largely stemming from control issues where he gave up 8 walks in those 2 starts. Tonight as well he's allowed 3 hard hit balls with some unfortunate sequencing after his defense gave the Brewers an extra out.
