    Diamondbacks can no longer catch the Cubs...and the year started out so promising for them... Reds are eliminated from NL Central contention before even playing a game in September.

    Padres can no longer catch the Cubs. At least their roster makes sense now, and they kept the correct 1B/OF.

    Since the all star break, the Cubs are 32-12, best in baseball. Since the all star break, the Giants are 15-27, worst in baseball, which includes a Twins team that has lost 13 straight.

    Cubs are really only middle of the pack in K%, and Zobrist is a prime DP candidate. With Russell as hot as he's been, the move makes logical sense. I don't want moves being made based on hot streaks, especially not ones that lower your chances of scoring as much as a good hitter voluntarily giving away one of your three is outs. It was stupid. Not every move that doesn't work is stupid. They thought Russell or Soler had a better shot of getting the runners in from 2nd and 3rd than Zobrist had of not making a productive out off Urias. Didn't work out, game's not over.

    The Dodgers front office today called up Brock Stewart, a bullpen arm, specifically for the weekend series with the Cubs. To make room for Stewart, they optioned Kenta Maeda to rookie ball. The reason they did this was because rookie ball ends Sunday, so Maeda can bypass the 10-day rule for minor league options since the season ends and still make his scheduled start Monday.

    Why? Yeah, I was gonna say, for me I'm a little pessimistic about him starting, but feel like I shouldn't be. That and we are going up against Bud Norris. The Cubs are just molding Montgomery to be the 4th starter in the postseason.

    One of the problems? That is THE single biggest problem he has. If he didn't have that issue he'd still be subpar but wouldn't be a constant point of discussion. i'd say the lack of ability to say words is a bigger problem. Coomers biggest issue in PBP is he fails to mention important details until after a play is over.
