    You're nuts. He's been nowhere near bad enough to even discuss this. Probably but with Happ going off and Kyle slumping its not crazy Yes, it's insanely crazy. Happ has had 20 good games above A-ball.

    The mock drafts and post draft hot takes are exceedingly meaningless, so pointing to them to justify feeling one way or the other about what the Bears did yesterday is pointless. If Trubisky is a hit, then it will have been worth the picks. If he's not, the entire draft was a waste. That means at best right now it's a huge gamble on a player the Bears saw once and never really did a detailed evaluation on. If they were just a QB away or if they had gotten him at 3, there'd be much less concern, but there's a ton of work left to do on the team to make it competitive, and I'm not sure the coaching staff is going to be right over the next couple years to see this through.

    Another good result for US Youth soccer last night as the U17s defeated Mexico in the CONCACAF championships group stage (they were behind Costa Rica and Mexico in the ranking so didn't get seeded), which is a huge step towards qualifying for the U17 world cup.

    I mean...I get it, it's a very high percentage play against Cervelli and a righty, particularly if you get a good jump, and then a single brings you in from 2nd with Lester looming in the inning. Cervelli made a perfect throw, which made it not work out.

    another way of saying he's terrible offensively and provides literally negative value despite his defense unless he exclusively faces lefties and the very best of rhp matchups (in which case, yes, he can be quite valuable) Or maybe give the guy more than 3 weeks to adjust to regular playing time, since he's shown to be productive offensively at every level, instead of demanding instant gratification for every player.

    Stop hating on Baez. Sneaky has waited years for the opportunity, sure, but at worst Baez is a defensive whiz at 2nd, with enough power to provide value in bursts offensively. Leave Baez alone.

    His time on ESPN reinforced the armchair GMs of the world that they were better than Jim Bowden.

    Through two games, the Cubs have outscored the Pirates 15-3, thanks to their mastery of hitting and pitching. Yesterday they fell off the pace of highest scoring team in the league, so they need to pick up the slack today and score another 15-20 runs. Tuesday's win was thanks to pitching and defense on both sides, good for the Cubs and bad for the Pirates, who took the slowest ball Heyward hit all year and threw it into the tarp because of sheer panic at Heyward. Wednesday, the Cubs go with Jon Lester, who was less than effective last time out, though he's generally been OK as a Cub pitcher. Rizzo may get another bid of 2B eligibility here, inching ever closer to the most valuable fantasy 2B in baseball. The Pirates counter with Tyler Glasnow, he of 9 walks in 11 innings of work, and a 2+ WHIP in the early going. Fortunately for him, the Cubs offense is easily shut down, so he'll have no troubles. The Cubs are looking for their first 3-game sweep of the Pirates in nearly 7 months.

    I'd rather open with Carl then Koji. However, the Pirates aren't good at hitting and the ball isn't carrying.

    Neither do I, as well as I don't agree with the idea that taking pitches for the sake of taking pitches is the right play if those pitches are in a hittable zone.

    When every pitch is in the zone, there is no such thing as working the count. There's taking good pitches for the sake of taking pitches.

    The 2016 Cubs set a lot of offensive franchise records last year, highest walk rate, highest fWAR, but the scoring of 808 runs was just 8th all time for the franchise in the World Series era. This year's team is currently averaging 5.42 runs per game. At a whole season, that would project to 878 runs for the season, just 3rd all time. To set the record, the Cubs would have to surpass 998 runs scored, set by the 1930 Cubs, which is the same year everybody scored a stupid amount of runs (Yankees and Cards each cleared 1000 and 6 teams cleared 900). In order to score 1000 runs for the season, the Cubs would have to average scoring just over 6.17 runs per game. This is the expectation I have for the offense.

    The velo is concerning, but the HR/FB rate is slightly hilarious. I'm confident he'll get things figured out, he started slow last year too.

    The Cubs pulled off a 14-3 squeaker on Monday against the unbeatable Pirates, despite awful, QS pitching by Brett Anderson and only one HR. The Pirates got more chances to show off their impressive defense by turning a flyout into a bases-clearing double, and an inability to catch the ball at home plate. To celebrate, here's my favorite Cervelli play: Next up is Gerrit Cole, a pitcher so certain the Cubs aren't the best team in the league, he decided to pitch awful against the rest of the league to prove it. He's going up against Kyle Hendricks, who allows a HR for every 3rd flyball he gives up so far this year, which I think is sustainable. The Cubs failed miserably in their quest to get 20 runs Monday, so they resume the effort Tuesday to make up for their embarrassments.
