  1. It should be in #10 there. Did the link break?
  2. #10: Hendricks and Lester Tag-Team Indians for 7 2/3 Innings Why on the list? - The Cubs had clawed their way back to even in the series, so it was all hands on deck for Game 7. Hendricks got the start and nearly got through 5, giving up just one earned run on four hits, eliminating two on the basepaths, one on a double play and the other on a pickoff: For the third time around the order for the Indians, the Cubs went to Lester, who gave up 3 hits in 3 innings (twice through the heart of the order), one of which went 5 feet and was misplayed by Ross, along with a slow roller to Russell that he couldn't make a play on for his last batter of the night. Between the two of them, they combined for 23 outs and allowed one earned run, giving the Cubs fans a reason to be optimistic when they took the lead early on.
  3. It's difficult to read much from ST results, because 1) Pitchers aren't going 100% most of the time, and 2) Hitting in the Cactus League is like playing in Coors every day
  4. Lawrence Holmes on the Score was on yesterday with some Pittsburgh sports station to help them preview the Cubs. Obviously, he was saying good things about the Cubs because, well, the Cubs are really good. The Pittsburgh guys took offense to this and said the Cubs bought a title. The Cubs did spend 171 million in salary, 6th highest in baseball. Of that, 75% of it was spent on 9 players, one of which never played for the Cubs in 2016 (Edwin Jackson) and another of which wasn't on the postseason roster (Hammel). I guess you could squint hard enough and say the Cubs bought a rotation, as Lester, Lackey, Arrieta and Hammel were among the high paid players.
  5. Well, after that first interview, I wouldn't blame Schweinsteiger if he just boards the next plane back to Germany. Actual questions from the Chicago media in the introductory press conference: - Do you think you can help the Chicago Fire win the World Cup? - What will it feel like for you when the Chicago Fire plays against Germany? - Do you still strive to play for Germany?
  6. It was a quick route to the bench for the remainder of the series.
  7. If collecting several years of high draft picks and then developing every one of those picks to be a major league asset is cheating, then a lot of teams are bad at it.
  8. Cactus League offense is fun. Cactus League pitching is not fun.
  9. would be interesting to see how liberally we could use the 10 day DL before other teams start crying foul The Cubs could literally flip Anderson and Montgomery back and forth off the DL, making two starts in succession each, all season.
  10. http://www.sbnation.com/a/mlb-2017-season-preview/game-length Fascinating article on why games are longer today compared to 30 years ago, by comparing games with basically identical stats 30 years apart. The 1984 game was a Harry Caray announced Cubs-Mets game on WGN, which is comedy gold.
  11. The only real concern from last night is that yet again the Bradley-Jones midfield pairing was useless. The entire back line was the second team (if that), so Zusi being useless should hopefully not be a long-term issue. Would have liked to see Zimmerman in back somewhere, but if Brooks/Cameron/Yedlin/Johnson are healthy, those 4 plus Villafana/Gonzalez/Ream/Zimmerman should be okay for back line depth. Altidore was invisible last night too, but the midfield couldn't generate anything aside from Pulisic. Nagbe couldn't get anything going, and Jones/Bradley like I said was poor. The US only looked a bit better in midfield after subbing out Jones for Acosta (after Nagbe had already been subbed for Bedoya). The critical thing for Arena going forward is to find a midfield combination that actually controls the center of the field in these qualifiers. Pulisic should be CAM every time out from now on. Bradley can be CDM, but he's got to show something more here, his quality has steadily declined the past couple years. Outside mids should be some combination of Fab, Nagbe, Acosta, Kljestan. I think right now, the best 11 the US can send out there is Howard in goal, Villafana-Brooks-Cameron-Yedlin on the back line, Fab-Pulisic-Bradley-Nagbe in the midfield, and Wood-Dempsey out front.
  12. 10 moments to go, 4 days to opening day.
  13. #11: Russell Gets a Little Help for 2-Run Double Why on the list? - After Bryant's HR to start the scoring off Tomlin, the Cubs got Rizzo and Zobrist on the corners with 2 out for Russell, who hit a short fly ball to right center that neither Naquin nor Chisenhall went and got, and the ball dropped. Zobrist never hesitated (2 outs), and tried to score from first. Perez was blocking the plate, so Zobrist did what he should have done and ran right over him before the ball got there. The ball got away, and Russell got all the way to third on a 150-foot lazy fly. Later in the game, Naquin and Chisenhall nearly did the exact same thing:
  14. #12: Schwarber Swings on 3-0, Collects His First RBI of Season Why on the list? - You're on your second game back from a 6 month knee rehab, you've seen all of Kluber, Miller and Allen to this point. Sure, you got a solid hit and a walk, but it's impossible to have your hit timing back so soon, right? Well, not if your name is Kyle Schwarber, who proceeded to line a single to right and double the Cubs' advantage in game 2, and put Cubs fans at ease a little bit.

  16. Well when you connect to the Internet, you can download documents. Then, if you have access to a printer, you can then send that document to the printer which turns it into a piece of paper you can physically take with you.
  17. #13: Baez Ends Kluber's Night Why on the list? - Javy had really struggled at the plate in the World Series after really dominating the first two rounds of the playoffs. Coming into game 7, he had 4 hits in the series, all singles, and hadn't scored or driven in a run. Kluber may not have been at his best on the night, but the HR still counts as much as any other in the series. Nobody was happier that he got to be involved in the offense this day than Baez, who had struggled defensively earlier in the game and got a chance to atone for it there.
  18. I was unable to find an official MLB video on Youtube for the Rizzo HR (well, there's one but it also includes a moment that's coming in a bit), so I improvised a touch.
  19. #14: Bryant and Rizzo Bookend Dominant Offensive Performance Why on the list? - The previous time the Cubs faced Josh Tomlin, the wind was blowing out 20mph to center, and they couldn't hit a ball hard. In game 6, Bryant hit a ball hard immediately to get the game rolling. Then, in the 9th, Rizzo finally got a HR of his own to basically put the game away. In the game, Bryant had 4 hits and Rizzo had 3, and the offense was off and running for the rest of the series.
  20. #15: Russell Hustles to Create Extra Scoring Chance Why on the list? - The Cubs had finally broken through in Game 5 against the Indians. Here, with runners on the corners and nobody out, Russell hit a soft chopper to third. Ramirez had a moment of indecision, which was long enough for Russell to beat the throw to first, and no outs were collected. This ended up being a big deal, because after a Heyward K and a Baez bunt single (again to 3rd, again Ramirez couldn't get anyone out), Ross followed with what would turn out to be the winning RBI:
  21. Fine, could have scored standing up.
  22. Every Pulisic touch in the game Friday:
  23. #16: Bryant Scores From First on Single by "Emotional" Rizzo Why on the list? - Sure, Bryant was running on the pitch, but Rizzo hit a sharp line drive to medium right field, and Bryant was basically home before the throw even came in, could have scored standing up. Rizzo was able to take second on the play, but it's amazing he was able to function at all, considering what he had just said to Ross in the dugout:
  24. #17: Arrieta Keeps Indians Offense Down to Force Game 7 Why on the list? - The offense got off to a good start early, and Arrieta shut down the Indians offense for nearly 6 innings, keeping the game from getting too tense throughout. It was everything the fans could ask for, and the Cubs kept it rolling in relief with Montgomery, Chapman, Strop, and Wood to put the game away.
  25. It is far, far too easy to go deep down a rabbit hole of highlight videos when prepping these.
