  1. Baez now has a higher OPS than Francisco Lindor.
  2. And to think three days ago they were good all year and running away with the division.
  3. all you need to know about newcomb is that he's a lefty is it pronounced new come or new comb? It's pronounced "nuke him"
  4. unreliable closers bring out the meatball from deep within. which wade davis isn't so? Davis hasn't allowed a single run this season when he's pitched in a 2-run or closer game. He's never blown a lead for the Cubs. He's been the second most effective closer in baseball after Jansen.
  5. Cubs 1/2 game back of the Yankees now, since there are 4 good teams right now.
  6. It's July 16, and the Giants have not won a single game this year started by Madison Bumgarner.
  7. I'm starting to think the Orioles pitching may not be that good.
  8. Just keep averaging scoring a run per inning, and the rest will take care of itself.
  9. And the starting lineup is...completely different from the last game, different starters at every position. That's new and different.
  10. Looks like USMNT is going to need to win by at least 3 to win the group.
  11. Sure, but that hasn't happened yet. A week ago, the Brewers were even with a hugely disappointing Cubs team with a worse RD. We don't need to rehash all this, but the Brewers put together winning months in April, May and June. Their offense has been among the league leaders in runs scored and dongs throughout and their starting ERA has been solid. ETA: Correction. They were .500 in April (13-13) so that's not a winning month. It's just not accurate to act like they had a lucky week and ignore the fact that they have been solid all season. They've been about as solid as a hugely disappointing Cubs team until the past week. If that means you have to give them the early overachiever award (personally I think the Diamond backs get it), then great. They've reduced the Cubs division odds from 95% to 70% over 3 months. Right now, though, there are about 5 good teams in MLB, and the Brewers aren't among them.
  12. No, but a solid three months might. Sure, but that hasn't happened yet. A week ago, the Brewers were even with a hugely disappointing Cubs team with a worse RD.
  13. So what, then, a good week doesn't portend the entire rest of the season?
  14. The Baltimore Orioles have allowed 5 runs or more in 19 consecutive games, now one short of a MLB record. I can't even fathom that being possible.
  15. Cubs' team ERA is now 4.01, which is good enough for 7th in MLB.
  16. I mean, it's demonstrably worse than the Bears' trade for the #2 pick where they were bidding against themselves for a player they could have had for free 5 minutes later, because at least the Bears didn't throw away a franchise player for the right to do so.
  17. There are only 12 teams in baseball over .500 right now. 10 teams make the playoffs.
  18. Schweinsteiger as sweeper was definitely weird, tbough.
  19. Curry, Durant, and Thompson went 9 for 22 in game 1 of the finals. The 1991 Bulls went 5 for 21 for the entire finals and won in 5.
  20. Felt like Dempsey was the worst US player on the pitch last night, and the US dominated from the second they subbed him out. Fab and the CBs were also disappointing, and Mexico will score 2-3 if they play that way again Sunday. I'd like to see Altidore-Wood up top Sunday with Acosta on the left in place of Fab. Use Dempsey for 20 minutes at the end to try to pull out a win if it's there late.
  21. That felt like the Belgium game in the 16 WC. US U-20s just had no chances until the game was in hand.
  22. Venezuela next, and they've been the best team in the tournament to this point, not allowing a goal through 4 games.
  23. Well...that was a beatdown.
  24. The only thing worse than the call was the Giants announcers being indignant and mocking Mafdon for coming out to argue a "clearly correct" call because "Hayward was in the grass" and "only half the base is in fair territory so the runner needs to stay foul at all times".
  25. The Warriors are 27-1 since that bizarre 2-5 stretch at the start of March.
