  1. Now batting leadoff and playing CF for your 2006 Chicago Cubs - Brad Wilkerson! I know there is rampant man love for Wilkerson arround here...but doesn't it bother anyone that his average and OBP have regressed for two straight years and that his Average AND OBP are worse than Walker's and would only be right around 6th amongst players I count as potential regulars for next year? (He's behind Lee, Ramirez, Walker, Murton, Cedeno)....I think he'd probably cost to much for the arguably limited return on investment. (Ducks waiting for somene to throw things and yell that Wilkerson is God) To be fair, his OBP from 03-04 only went down because he hit 13 points lower. He walked 17 more times and hit for much more power, and was more productive overall in 04. He's playing his first year in a tough hitter's park. I think he's gonna have a huge comeback year in 06. He was on the upswing and is still young enough that 04 wasn't a fluke.
  2. Now batting leadoff and playing CF for your 2006 Chicago Cubs - Brad Wilkerson! For some reason I don't like Wilkerson hitting leadoff. In a good lineup, Wilk is a 6-hitter. Even though the power is down this year, he hit 32 out in 04. In Wrigley, I'd have to think that would go up close to that again. I'd hate to have those 32 bombs leading off or coming after the 8 and 9 hitters got out.
  3. I see. I hate unbalanced schedules. I played in a football league last year, led it in points, but didn't make the playoffs. I was the only team to play all 4 playoff teams twice, and the bottom 4 once.
  4. Of course that would be better. But trading Lee for multiple younger and cheaper players is a better option than overpaying overrated players to try and make a run. If you can trade Lee and get a huge upgrade at another position and a slight downgrade at 1B, then spend the extra money for another huge upgrade, then the Cubs will be a better team. In the proposed deal, the Cubs get a pretty substantial upgrade at SP (Webb), a slight downgrade at 1B (Tracy, assuming Lee reverts somewhat to past trends), and a great prospect. If you can use the extra money to get Brian Giles over a player like Jacque Jones, then the team is better for it. Still, I would rather keep Lee and find other ways to add these players or similar.
  5. I agree with you. It's one thing to be old for the league, but it's another thing to be old for the league and lead it in every major offensive category in your first year of professional baseball, and actually have projectability and talent.
  6. If only Todd Walker could hit leadoff.
  7. Yeah, but how many sac bunts does he have? How often does he advance runners from 2nd with less than 2 outs? How many of those extra base hits came with the game on the line? *arguments heard when Sammy Sosa was accomplishing the same feat*
  8. End the regular season a week earlier, and end the playoffs before the final week of the MLB season.
  9. Would you rather do a job in which you get paid 8-10 million dollars a year or one in which you get paid 2-4 million dollars a year? Whatever role he fills, he will get paid closer money, and therefor would not be worth it to have in any other role. If you mean Ryan, I would pay Ryan whatever he wants for a setup role.
  10. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=98850 quote from Hendry today in Bruce Miles' column in the Daily Herald: "We have every intention of trying to sign Ryan to a multi-year deal. He'll be a priority as the off-season approaches." Nice and straight forward. If Hendry is that open about it, it probably gets done.
  11. How well does his 137 total games the last 2 years compare to the other FA's at his position though? True. I don't know.

    WOW

So, far I'm surviving a 160 yard, 3 TD performance from Steve Smith. I have an 18 point lead with Trent Green going against me tonight. Let's Go Broncos D!
  13. I would think Nomar would be a Type A. Doesn't he get compared to other FAs at his position?
  14. Walks all the way around. Pitching walked too many. Hitting didn't walk enough.
  15. Lineups have nothing to do with whether the Cubs win or lose over the longhaul. Injuries hurt, but moreso than the actual injuries was the fact that the Cubs were counting on players that were injury risks. True about counting on injury prone players. However, Neifi batting 1st or 2nd was a killer, along w/ Corey's stint in leadoff. Didn't they go on an 8 game skid w/ those 2 at the top of the order?? They haven't played any better with anyone else up there. Still over the course of a season, sure you take away RBI chances from Derrek Lee, but if Corey and Neifi are in the lineup, they have to bat somewhere. If they are 7th and 8th, you leave your 3-6 hitters on base just as much. When all is said and done, you're gonna be pretty close to the same amount of runs scored whether you have Corey/Neifi 1/2 or 7/8. The problem is not where bad hitters bat.....it's when they bat.

  17. I think Arizona would at least consider it. I'd do it. The Cubs get huge salary relief. Webb makes the rotation dangerous. Tracy is a step down from Lee, but gives the Cubs OBP, and the ability to still go out and get a big bat.
  18. Nobody will give up pitching? How do you know? Pitching gets dealt every year, why would this year change? I'd just as well take a couple bats for Lee. I'd rather keep Aram than Lee, since Lee is the one more likely to suffer a decline (the numbers Ramirez has put up, given his age, suggest he's much more likely of consistently producing in the coming years), Ramirez is already locked up for the next 3 years while Lee might require a new huge deal as he reaches his 30s, and it's much easier to find productive 1B than 3B. I agree with everything you said, but 3B isn't as hard to fill as you might think. Sure 1B is still easier to fill, but mainly due to the fact that nearly anyone can play there. There are a ton of quality 3B.
  19. I'd be willing to go $3.5-4.5M guaranteed for Nomar. Cedeno would be plan B. Julio Lugo would be the guy I would look to trade for if they can't sign Nomar or don't have faith in Ronny, or want to play him at 2B over Walker for whatever reason. Say no to Furcal, unless the market has severely changed.
  20. Maybe it's because his throws frin short to first tail into the runner. That's funny
  21. The Cubs will be in good shape if they can get a couple guys on that list. Hopefully that's just a random order, because I hope Alex Gonzalez isn't the 4th name on their list. Any combination on that list including the name "Giles" would work for me. I'd even accept Gonzalez if it meant they got 2 others on that list.
  22. I think most if not all who were talking about Howry were talking about getting him in addition to keeping Dempster. I know I'm not extremely comfortable with any of our current setup/fireman options. At least 1 major upgrade is needed in the pen. I think Ohman, Novoa and Wuertz are good bullpen options, but they shouldn't be your 1-2-3 guys to get to the closer. Get an 8th inning guy or an established closer (moving Dempster to the 8th), and the pen becomes much better. Get 2 arms and the pen can be a strength with Ohman, Novoa, and Wuertz in less pressure filled situations.
  23. Pick up Walker's option next Monday, soon as the season ends. Even if the Cubs don't want Walker, $2.5M is a steal for him. There are plenty of teams that could be looking for 2B help (Twins, Indians, Dodgers, Mets, etc). If the Cubs don't want Walker back, they might as well get something for him. He will go for almost twice as much as that $2.5M option, if he's on the market. Teams needing a 2B will be all over him for 1/2 the price tag.
  24. It saddens me to repeatedly hear the Cubs interested in players like Monroe, Preston Wilson, Soriano, etc. They are all decent players. But all players like this do is keep the Cubs at the top of the leaderboard in SLG, and at the bottom in OBP.....and keeps the team striving for wildcard titles. As for Pudge, I don't even know what to say to that. That's just not a good idea.
  25. You want me to formally invite them? What should I tell them?
