  1. This is what we were talking about. Who cares? Let it go. His team isn't playing well, and the Bears are. Why would he give credit to the Bears, as a Panthers fan, his concern is how his team is playing? Please, let it go.
  2. A TD on this drives would be HUGE!
  3. Don't like the playcall on 3rd and 1, when 3 gives you a 3 score lead.
  4. Any guesses on how many punts Wade had to field in practice this week?
  5. Man, could be 21 points on the board right now. Oh well, keep playing D. Watch out for the big play.
  6. No. They got a first down. Their 2nd of the game.
  7. 3 works. Would be nice to see 1 more 3 and out then an extended offensive drive for the Bears.
  8. Nate Dogg! IS NDistops gonna make teh board go down again?
  9. Why run the ball on 3rd down, after 2 straight passes?
  10. Carolina's #1 run defense is overrated. I know the statistics show they're the best, but look at who they've played. Arizona-last in rushing/game, Green Bay-30th, New England-29th, Jets-28th, Minnesota-27th, Detroit-23rd. Granted, the Bears have played a few of these teams. But the only 2 teams that the Panthers have played that are in the top 1/2 of the league in rushing are New Orleans (12th) and Miami (16th), both of their losses. NO didn't do much on the ground against them, but Deuce got 2 TDs. Ronnie Brown had a career game against them.
  11. WHAT? MSU got destroyed! That's wonderful. My team had a great showing to open the season. 3 players had career nights, including future All Big-Teamer Marco Killingsworth in his first basketball game since March 04. 27 assists on 38 baskets. 55-21 rebound advantage. Marshall Strickland able to hit shots. And this without 2 starters (White, Ratliff), a 3-year letter winner (Wilmont), and with Vaden just going thru the motions. Bring on Duke.......or not
  12. I don't think Sheff would drop balls on purpose. He wants to win. On the other hand, I'd rather not have a disgruntled Sheff. In spite of Sheff's problems, they have never gotten in the way of winning. my bad. he didn't drop balls. he threw them away b/c he didn't like his team/city (Milwaukee). purposefully committing errors. yeah, that's a real winner. yes, sheffield's problems have gotten in the way of winning. he's always been a whiner and a complainer. he tanks plays on purpose. what about that man's actions suggest that he is anything different from the spoiled child with a monster paycheck he was in Milwaukee? For the record, here's the final record and standings of the last five teams Sheffield has played for: 05 Yankees: 95-67 (1st AL East) 04 Yankees: 101-61 (1st in AL East) 03 Braves: 101-61 (1st NL East) 02 Braves: 101-59 (1st in NL East) 01 Dodgers: 88-76 (3rd in NL West) There's 4 first place finishes out of five. Now, they either won because of him, with him, or inspite of him....but it definitely doesn't appear that having Sheffield affected his team mates or caused enough of a rumble to affect their ability to win. There's also three 100+ win teams in that group. That leads me to say, either: 1. Sheff isn't the malcontent he's made out to me. 2. It doesn't affect tram performance. What were all those teams records before and since Sheffield? Atlanta hasn't suffered much, the Yanks were actually better BEFORE he got there, and LA has at least had as much success as anyone else in the NL not in Atlanta, St. Louis, and now Houston. That just leads me to say that: 1. He's played on some very good teams for very good franchises.
  13. Something tells me...this Murton kid will be right there with Bay. Maybe not much with the power, but all-around skills. I like Jason Bay, and I would trade Scott Rolen, Anthony Reyes, and Yadier Molina (cause Pujols would be overpaying) for Bay....and the Cards get Todd Walker, Jose Macias, and Mark Redman. That's a fair trade. Good point NSAvenger. Murton has the tools, the plate discipline, and if the end of 2005 showed us anything, maybe even the power to be right on Bay's level. Now whether he is able to do that or if he becomes another minor-league Cubs bust, we shall see. I'd bet closer to the former. Interesting comparison. Bay is much more athletic than Murton though, although Matt has surprising athletic ability for his size. I don't think Murton has the wingspan of Bay, though, or the ability to take the ball out to all parts of the park. I'd settle for Murton becoming a poor man's Jason Bay.
  14. If they are having a firesale, that means they are trying to trim payroll and Beckett makes too much for their liking. They might want one of those players from the Cubs, but the Cubs aren't giving any of them up, and the Marlins can't afford to take any of them on. Going from Beckett and Lowell to Blalock saves them a lot of money. I understand that they're having a firesale. I was commenting on our possible trades with them. We don't have the cheap major leaguer they would want. Our prospects really aren't that great either. We don't have any blue chippers (Pie is as close as we come and he's a step down from the top). Look at what they're asking from Texas. Do we have anything comparable to offer? No. I think Williams could be very good playing his home games in Florida. And the Cubs don't have a Blalock type player, but Blalock's numbers have slipped each of the last 2 seasons. If he goes to Florida, he will be a marginal upgrade over Lowell in the long run. I think the Marlins would at least consider Williams, Murton and a minor league arm (Pinto?) for Beckett and Lowell, not that I want Mikey.

I'm sure he is a whiner, but if he produces....who cares? We put up with it from Moises for 3 years. Also, Sheff was really young back then. He doesn't have much of a career left to waste away by purposefully screwing up. And he already has the steroid controversy hanging in the way of his Hall of Fame consideration. That being said, I think he would play well for the Cubs, albeit while being very disgruntled while doing it.
  16. I agree, which is one reason I can't see Hendry going with Mench or Kearns unless it's a last ditch, no other choice kind of trade. Hey, kinda like the Burnitz signing. If he's worried about overpaying Giles and doesn't want to give up the talent to get Dunn....he might as well get it over with and trade for Mench and put us out of our misery. No other choice is not an excuse.

  18. Lewis was outrighted with Fontenot & Rochelik. Greenberg will be a Cub. Craig puts it well by saying that we have to wait for the process to go through. A couple of interesting points, Should we lose Fontenot then only Hairston (who is a bubble non-tender) is all to show for Sosa. That's more than the Orioles have had to show for the trade since it was executed. The only move I question is Reyes. I'd rather kept 1 more arm (Brownlie).
  19. If you tossed in Walker and got Castillo, we'd have the lead-off hitter with or without Pierre or Furcal. How about Pie, Hill and Walker for Beckett and Castillo? Would the Marlins do that knowing they still need to move Lowell to? I guess I just don't understand the obsession with leadoff hitters. Especially getting multiple leadoff hitters. I think our team would be better with Castillo over Walker. I like Walker, but if I could upgrade to Castillo I would. Well, neither is much of a base stealer. Castillo gets on a bit more, but Walker provides a lot more power. I guess the argument could be made that Castillo's defensive difference is bigger than Walker's offensive advantage and I could buy that. But I wouldn't give up a lot to make that upgrade. Beckett, on the other hand, is a difference maker waiting to not have blisters. I've been calling for a Josh Beckett 220 IP, Cy Young type season for 2 years now. I called the Jon Garland breakout for 3 years until he broke out. Maybe this is the year for Beckett. He's too good not to do it at some point. Might as well be with the Cubs, while he's still relatively cheap.
  20. Put 2 men on Steve Smith at all times. Not that it has helped anyone else this season. BTW, watch out for DeShaun Foster. The Bears should have their way with Stephen Davis who likes to run up the middle. They have their problems with speedier backs.
  21. Don't be baffled, it happens to others that USED to post here regularly. The funny part is all the name calling and second guessing of Hendry, people still wonder why he won't post here or answer questions on the site. My question to you is, if you were Hendry, would you? You know, i was just wondering why hendry doesn't post on this website. There are so many GMs that post on so many fan sites throughout sports, and I was wondering why hendry hasn't joined them. Keep the thread about the transaction. Leave out all the personal stuff and the sarcasm, please.
