  1. Not really. Nothing too impressive, anyway. 279/328/401/729 For a SS in a pitcher's league at his age, that's pretty good. Good enough to get him on his league's All-Star team, if I recall correctly. And it was before 2004, not last year, when he was added to the roster and many of us were in disbelief. Even better when you look at his previous seasons. Those who saw him play saw a marked improvement in his approach. He slowed down in the middle of 04, starting hitting again at the end, and hasn't stopped hitting since.
  2. See, I don't buy into the thinking that Corey was so rushed. I think the way he was handled once he got to the ML level was most damaging. Many teams have called up players earlier with lesser talent/batting eyes and had success. But Corey spent 1/2 of 2001 watching Michael Tucker and Delino DeShields play. He spent too much time getting yo-yoed from leadoff to 7th to 2nd to 5th in the lineup. He spent too much time being forced to learn how to bunt better, swing inside out, and being passive. The too many cooks in the kitchen applies to Patterson, IMO.
  3. Man, I gotta get back home this spring to catch a few games. The D'Backs have had some future stars come thru Da Bend.
  4. Agreed. But it doesn't really matter how he feels if he's not a Cub. I'm sure Eric is professional enough to not hold a grudge against the organization. And Corey doesn't seem like a guy who would bad mouth the organization to his little brother.
  5. Did the Cubs organization really treat Corey that poorly? I don't think they did... Yeah, the only thing Corey can really claim mistreatment from is the fans. I don't know if it qualifies as mistreatment, but he was grossly misused, and then scapegoated. He and Walker have been the Sammy and Farnsworth of 2005/2006. And in many ways, this all goes back to when Dusty inexplicably pulled him aside on the field for what looked like lesson time, after he won a game with a walkoff homer. Prior to that, he was still doing some things right. That's a good point. I don't think Eric will see it that way, but I think that's the way it is. The Cubs brought back guys like Neifi, Rusch, and others who were the real problem (not producing with too much PT) and seem to have a crusade to get rid of 2 perceived problems, at any cost, in Patterson and Walker, just like Sosa and Farnsworth before them. I really don't see any argument that Corey was mistreated. After his performance, he had no business being recalled from AAA. Whatever his fate, Corey brought it on himself with poor performance. To blame Cubs management would be ridiculous. I don't think he was mistreated either. He needs to go. But I agree he was scapegoated (using Goony's word) along with Walker. There are bunch of people on this team who didn't produce and shouldn't be back, just like there were plenty after the 2004 season.

  7. So, is Buck Coats officially an OF again? I know he played a lot of CF last year. But I was hoping he'd get 1 more shot at SS. He's not horrible there.
  8. No. Might as well go after a guy like Mench or Ibanez who seemingly can be had somewhat easily. I'd probably rather trade Murton than Pie. But I wouldn't hesitate to trade Felix if he was the centerpiece (i.e. best player given up) of a Tejada deal. How many top prospects are you willing to give up for Tejada? 3-4. It would have to be the right combo, though. Pie OR Murton (not both) Hill OR Williams (not both) Just 1 of Gallagher, Marmol, Marshall (if I had to) I would give up any combo of 2 of the names above and any 2 other prospects though. I'd hesistate to trade Cedeno, as I said earlier.
  9. I wouldn't want to give up Cedeno for Tejada. I really want Cedeno at 2B if the Cubs get another SS. Walker will be gone, so that leaves Neifi and Hairston as the only 2B options.

  11. I think the Bears D should kill a QB like Simms. Inexperienced, young, not used to the weather.
  12. Ok am I the only Bears fan that is thinking the exact opposite on this? Honestly I would rather play NY based on the fact that the Bears havent played them this year. Beating good teams twice in the same season is not easy in football, even with the game being in Chicago. Also, NY has been TERRIBLE on the road this year, and quite possibly wouldnt even be in the playoffs had it not been for the fact they had an extra home game. I think the Bears D can really tear apart Eli Manning. Just my opinion but Id rather see the Giants then Tampa or Carolina. Dont get me wrong I think the Bears can/will beat any of those teams, but I think NY would be the easiest. I feel the same way. I fear the Bears could lose to Carolina, TB, or Washington, but I have no doubt the Bears would win and win easily against the Giants. That D would force Manning into making some terrible mistakes. Anyways, I'm gonna throw some predictions out there.. Washington 17 Tampa Bay 21 Jacksonville 27 New England 17 Carolina 28 N.Y. Giants 13 Pittsburgh 34 Cincinnati 38 You guys are probably right. I just worry about Tiki's versatility, and the Giants DE's.
  13. Great game. However, it was badly coached and officiated.
  14. What a bad first half. Sloppy throws. I still don't think Leinart has an NFL resume. He throws late and doesn't have great arm strength. Officiating sucked.
  15. MJ is the perfect example of this. I don't know how anyone could watch MJ and say there's no such thing as as a clutch performer. As far as baseball: Bases empty: Manny .236 avg/.332 OBP David Ortiz: .275 avg/.353 OBP Aramis: .279 avg/.313 OBP Runners On: Manny .346 avg/.439 obp Ortiz .290 avg/ .381 obp Aramis: .327 avg/.397 obp These are three people I would consider clutch, and the numbers show they are different batters when runners are on. Aramis said as much a few years ago in an interview. Are those 05 numbers? Check 04, 03, and 02? I bet the numbers are different.

I think the success rate is about the same as those with college experience. Oden could very well not turn into a superstar, but I don't think it'll be due to a lack of college ball experience. I'll clarify my point. I don't think not going to college, or only going for a year will hurt Oden. My point is that he's X amount of time away from being as good as everyone says he will be, and I don't think he'll be there as a freshman, or as an NBA player after one year in school. All of this is IMO of course. That said, that doesn't mean I think taking Oden with that '07 lottery pick is a bad idea. That's pretty much how I feel too. I'm probably being a little hard on him though.

Enough for what? For him to reach his full potential? I can't agree with that. Honestly, I have no idea what kind of player Robinson was during his senior year in high school. Oden's size and athleticism reminds me of Robinson. It's not fair to compare a teenage to a HOF player, of course. But I do think Oden has that kind of ceiling. I agree on his ceiling. But I just don't think he'll reach it. Not a good history for big guys with little amateur experience who suceed in the pros. He has a nice build, but it's far from being an NBA body. I see him as more of a Tyson Chandler (with better offensive skills) than a Robinson type. I.E. 15/8 kinda guy rather than a consistent 20-25 ppg/10-12 rebs type of player.
  18. My prediction. Texas beats USC by stopping a game-tying TD pass, and Reggie Bush goes down just before the end of regulation with a torn ACL. Bears gamble and pick him up in the 1st round of the 2006 draft, knowing he's out for his rookie season.
  19. rawaction

I watched some of one of his high school games on ESPNU, and his offense wasn't extremely impressive. He ran the floor very well, and was a nice defensive presence inside, but he didn't do much in the set offense(aside from catch passes for dunks after his man helped penetration) and he had probably half a foot on everyone else in the game. He hasn't had to develop a post game yet. I think a year of Big Ten ball should prepare him nicely for the NBA. The reasons CP points out are my reasons. I don't think a year in college is enough. He's much more raw than Robinson, of course, David had the Navy background and age advantage.
  20. I don't know. Washington gets a steal. I think the Cubs get a fair deal, but they are forced to go with Neifi at SS full-time, and lose their pitching depth.
  21. rawaction

Oden strikes me as a guy who's gonna struggle in the pro game. I'm not so sure he'll be a dominant college player.
  22. Jones/Grissom batting #2 would be horrible. Ibanez ahead of Ramirez isn't good either. The rotation I like.
  23. For the record, I think Washington has the best chance of beating Seattle if they get that far. The Giants have the best shot at beating the Bears in Round 2, just based on them being the only team the Bears haven't played of the wildcard group.
  24. Holy Jesus the glove and ball are formed out of an M and B!!!! (Seriously, I didnt see it until people mentioned it in this thread) Same here. It makes me love the logo a lot more. Me three. HA. How could you guys not tell? Did you know the old expos logo had an M and an E in it? http://www.sportslogos.net/images/Baseball/MLB/MTL_1211.gif Of course, I didn't notice the Brewers until the early part of this decade when throwbacks became popular.
