So, let me get this straight. Of the 46 players to play for the 2005 Cubs.... -3 veterans were forced to take minor league deals (Remlinger, Hollandsworth, Grieve) -4 were forced to take severe paycuts and 1-year deals (Garciaparra, Lawton, Hawkins, Borowski) -2 couldn't or can't be traded for anything close to full value (Patterson, Walker) -3 won't play baseball in the United States in 2006 (Macias, E. Wilson, McClain) -3 will probably never see the majors again (Fox, Bartosh, Koronka) -2 were dumped for PsTBNL (Van Buren, Leicester) -5 are spot fillers on 40-man rosters (Dubois, Fontenot, Soto, Wellemeyer, Theriot) with minimal upside -1 didn't even make a 40-man roster (Greenberg) That's 1/2 of the players to play for the Cubs....and that list doesn't include guys like Burnitz, Perez, and Rusch who inexplicably got raises.
