  1. Instead of wasting your thoughts away on pipe dreams, how 'bout you come up with some possible scenario where the Cubs could actually acquire those two without giving up some key component for next year's team? I don't see the Cubs just sitting around with an extra Coco Crisp to throw the Red Sox way and please don't suggest Patterson. So many fans here seem insistant on focusing on the "why not" rather than the "how"...no wonder so many have a warped sense of reality. Of course, playing video game GMs have that impact sometimes.... Thanks for taking a personal shot at dkwg at the end there. That was uncalled for.
  2. Francis Beltran - before he got hurt Chadd Blasko - before he got hurt Even Jason Wylie - before he got hurt. Marmol is a good comparison with Beltran. Beltran was a horse though. Marmol doesn't have quite the size, but a similar repitoire. Beltran was a starter at the point in his career where Marmol is now too. Marmol's been better as a starter than Beltran, though. Less wear on the arm too. Agreed. But fwiw, I thought Beltran looked better as a low A pitcher than Marmol. Although, I probably saw Carlos on his worst night of the season.

  4. Yeah, let the teams IU beat keep winning (except Illinois, not knocking U of I but I want them to lose because we have a sure loss coming in Assembly Hall Jr.) It wouldn't surprise me if Minnesota beats Indiana in Minneapolis. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it wouldn't surprise me. I haven't looked at Michigan State's schedule, but they've already done something that I don't think Illinois will do - beat OSU in Columbus. In fact, if Pruitt and Randall continue to underachieve, I can see the Illini with at least four more Big Ten losses. It is a strong possibility. But IU has to win that game if they want to consider themselves among the top teams in the country.
  5. Why are the teams called Tampa "Bay" anyway? The city is called Tampa.
  6. Matt Clanton. Wow. Sad, sad story.
  7. yea, I think they'll do that some. a lot will probably depend on how thomas feels. I don't think you lose much if anything from payton to swisher btw. The A's need a good outfield defense. If they can stay healthy, they have a great shot at the west this year. they need crosby and harden healthy though. Healthy, I think they are the West winners easily.
  8. Randy Wells. A good year in AA, and he's inline for a bullpen role in 2007. He dominated in Daytona, after a fine year in 04. Can also spot start. Jake Fox. From 17 BBs, 75 Ks in 361 ABs to 26 BBs, 46 Ks in 270 ABs. A good year in AA, and he becomes a serious catcher of the future candidate. Those are my top 2 breakout candidates. Also, watch out for 05 draftees (Veal, Billek), Sam Fuld, Grant Johnson, and Darin Downs.

  10. Dunn 2006- .277/.415/.601, 51 HRs, 114 RBIs, 16 SB.
  11. Get Bibby!
  12. He was crap on defense. He deserved to be sitting down. I agree that he probably shouldn't have been out that long, though. Still, it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome, IMO. Nobody was knocking down open shots. And Monroe and Calloway were taking too many of them. I thought Kline played well, though. At least well for Sean Kline.
  13. 14-0 Iowa run to start the 2nd half. No Marshall Strickland. The 7th different IU player to miss time this year.
  14. It wouldn't kill you to stop putting down people because of their opinions. Personal attacks are not welcomed, and I believe this is an underhanded way of attacking somone. It's not direct, but anyone who is pessimistic could take exception to it.
  15. I would have done that trade if I were the Reds.
  16. I'd give Ben a max contract. He would make that much of a difference on this team. Gotta hope he retires after 4-5 years though. But still, I think it would be worth it.
  17. Or he could always just leave him at 1B where he is slated to play this year.
  18. So, let me get this straight. Of the 46 players to play for the 2005 Cubs.... -3 veterans were forced to take minor league deals (Remlinger, Hollandsworth, Grieve) -4 were forced to take severe paycuts and 1-year deals (Garciaparra, Lawton, Hawkins, Borowski) -2 couldn't or can't be traded for anything close to full value (Patterson, Walker) -3 won't play baseball in the United States in 2006 (Macias, E. Wilson, McClain) -3 will probably never see the majors again (Fox, Bartosh, Koronka) -2 were dumped for PsTBNL (Van Buren, Leicester) -5 are spot fillers on 40-man rosters (Dubois, Fontenot, Soto, Wellemeyer, Theriot) with minimal upside -1 didn't even make a 40-man roster (Greenberg) That's 1/2 of the players to play for the Cubs....and that list doesn't include guys like Burnitz, Perez, and Rusch who inexplicably got raises.
  19. I need assists. Somebody trade me a Point Guard.
  20. Killer! 3rd time Big Ten POTW! 2 away from Glenn Robinson's record. Leads the conference in scoring in conference game (.01 behind Ager overall scoring). 5th time an IU player has done it. 4th time under Mike Davis strangely enough. http://iuhoosiers.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/012306aad.html
  21. He'd be at least the 3rd best pitcher on this team next year.
  22. I'm iffy on T.O. On one hand, T.O. takes this offense to the next level. They now become a team that can win a game offensively, rather than one who pounds the ball and waits for the defense. Just adding T.O. to the current Bears team probably makes them the best team in the NFC by a decent margin. On the other hand, he has a huge salary figure. With guys like Briggs and Tommie Harris needing to be locked up pretty soon. With the lack of depth on the O-line and defensive backfield. It wouldn't allow the Bears to upgrade in other areas beside the draft route. I think a solid draft and a couple of decent FA signings could make this team the best in the NFC, without T.O. Not having T.O. also makes it a lot easier to sustain success, being that he wouldn't be taking up a chunk of the payroll. And I didn't even mention anything about the personal issues.
  23. I don't agree with that. Everyone's not beating each other at the top currently (although they probably will in the long run). IU right now has quality conf wins vs. Illinois, OSU, and Michigan (all 2 loss teams), by holding up their home court. Ohio St. has a home loss already, that's gonna be huge. They still have to go to Iowa, MSU, Michigan and UW. I think they can do damage in the tourney with their experience, but they will finish no higher than 5th in the league this season.
