  1. Why are people still wanting to add something to this team? The Cubs shouldn't be trading prospects for a free agent at the end of this year. I understand some of you want him re-signed, but the Cubs could and should do a lot better, given a $100M payroll. Wilson has solid career numbers, but most of them have been amassed in part-time duty. His only 310+ AB seasons have led to an .808 and .792 OPS.
  2. Not that it matters with the Cubs current situation, but Cliff Floyd is gone if Milledge does anything. No reason to send him back down if he hits.
  3. Huge week for me. My team played a crappy game this week, and got away with it. Less than 230 points with 8 starts (4 from Smoltz and Santana). Some of my boys have been slumping or nursing injuries. I have a 1 start disadvantage. Too close to call right now. Before last week, I believe I was the high scorer from weeks 4-7, finishing in the top 4 each week.
  4. Completely agree, Craig. Very similar type of players, but Greenberg is a poor man's Sam Fuld. Same skill set, but Fuld just does it all better.
  5. LOL, you sound like Jim Hendry, "hey, this guy isn't working out, you want him?" Yep, that's my motto. "Buy high and Sell low". That and "Pay too much for over-the-hill has-beens and put your faith in toolsy prospects with speed" I have noticed that no one has made an offer. Ah Millwood with a 7 inning shutout, Maroth and Josh Johnson have decent starts, and Mauer has a big day. I am heading into Sunday with about a 40 point lead :D I wonder where Raw is? He has been quiet this week, out of town? 90 point night, and counting. 17-38, 6 doubles, 3 HRs. 21.3 IP, 16 H, 4 ER, 18/3 K/BB, 3 QS. And you have Contreras vs. the Cubs (which is an easy 20-point game) and the red-hot Tom Glavine going tomorrow.
  6. I called Webb as my darkhorse for the Cy Young this year (had him finishing 2nd to Peavy). And I called Capuano taking the next step to becoming a bottom 1/3 #1 starter in the NL. Cap's a really good pitcher. The other 3, yeah, that's strange.
  7. Immense? I'd say the Cubs have a handful of immensely talented players, but after Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Lee, and Ramirez the talent level is mediocre at best.
  8. Yep, you have to take McCarthy out of your pen. You can wait until he is officially removed from the DL to activate Contreras. But once he is off the DL, he has to be moved off of yours.
  9. I stated I wanted to bring Nomar back in late April last year AFTER he was possibly out for the season. I kinda strayed off that as the season went on, but it still would have been a decent idea if done cheaply. I would have taken my chances with Nomar in LF and Murton in RF. Or if they could have gone out and gotten Giles for RF, I would have let Nomar start at SS with Cedeno moving to 2B (and Walker traded like the Cubs were seemingly determined to do).
  10. Are you blaming the injuiries on Rothschild?
  11. It took 3 premium pages before someone pointed out that an OPS of .806 isn't good? Whether or not he's been hot and has "figured it out" isn't what I'm getting from this thread. I'm getting he was really bad and is now right around average. I'm a Jones hater and I've been touting that he could be right about average or slightly above all year. Whoop-de-freakin-doo! The fact that he's the 2nd best offensive player right now isn't a reason to rejoice about his performance.
  12. To prevent the GIDP that would end the inning. Might as well GIDP if you're gonna give up the 2nd out anyway.
  13. Kinda made up for it.
  14. I wouldn't mind that thinking if they were debating on 2 good players. If the Cubs traded for Dontrelle over Clemens because Willis was a better hitter, then great. If the Cubs were deciding on Abreu or Giles and went with Bobby A's defense, then great. But this is Conine vs. Millar. That makes it worse. They know the offense needs help, but they seek out guys who can't hit.
  15. Wow! Who to choose? Both are leaders. Both are winners. Conine led the young Marlins to a title. Millar brought together the untamed RedSox by getting them all to cowboy up and led them to a WS. When so much is similar...you gotta decide by defense. If you aren't scoring runs you may as well prevent them. Conine getting to those gappers faster will make the difference between a 6-1 and a 5-1 loss.
  16. Amazing.
  17. If you think that Daytona game was a football score. Dunedin beat Vero Beach 19-12 tonight also in the FSL.
  18. His ceiling is rising because he actually looks like he could be a major leaguer now. His ceiling will never be that high, though, because he doesn't have much power. His best bet as a ML would be as a CF. He reminds me of David Dellucci right now. Dellucci did develop more power and a better batting eye as he aged, but is still just a part time player.
  19. For the record, I never said anything about not paying players a ton of money. You pay your own players if they are worthy of those contracts, i.e. young and productive enough to be worth the money. It has never been worth the money to get into a bidding war for high priced free agents. And yes, Vlad has been in the playoffs. I didn't argue that he was a bad signing in any way. But every year in the playoffs he has been on what was easily the 3rd or 4th best team (last year), who didn't have much of a chance to advance. Like has been mentioned, the Angels were a World Series championship team before him and haven't come close with him. So, in actuality, they have actually gotten worse....because they can't go out and add to the team with his salary there (and Colon's). Of course, they've developed an amazing farm system, which will be the reason they get back to being legit contenders in the very near future.
  20. East looking at a 7-1 week vs. the West.
  21. It's not worth it simply because it doesn't guarantee you anything. You mention Beltran, Furcal, Johnson, and Thome (in Philly) as failing...but what have Vlad and Tejada gotten the Angels and O's respectively? The Angels have had a couple of playoff appearances, but had no shot of winning anything going in. The O's have been at best a 3rd place team in their own division the entire time with Tejada. The way to assemble a winning baseball team is to develop your own talent and to be able to identify other teams' cheap, young talent. That's how the Braves and believe it or not the Yankees have become perrenial playoff participants. That's how the White Sox, Red Sox, and Marlins have won the last 3 World Series.
  22. If someone ran on the field and shot him right now....I don't think I'd really care all that much.
  23. The 2nd will be an All Star this year. The first was better than the 2nd last year. The 3rd.....yeah, I can't explain that one.
  24. 2 good games today. Kobe is better than anyone else in the league. If the Lakers win this series, it will be one of the greatest performances in NBA history. I'm starting to like Kobe now that everyone else hates him.
