  1. So, right now, we're looking at Izturis, Cedeno, and Pierre in the everyday lineup for the next 1 1/3 years. Add in Jones, and 1/2 the Cubs lineup can't get on base at an average level. The Cubs better get Pujols for LF if they think a lineup with the first 3 guys will score any runs.
  2. I wouldn't mind Loretta, and get a big bat for the OF (preferably a RF, moving Jones to platoon with Murton in LF). Get another high OBP in CF. I'd still be interested in Milton Bradley.
  3. Ray Durham will likely be available.
  4. Wow. I guess this is one of those, "fresh face" moves, Cubs must have just wanted someone that hasn't had a chance yet to get a shot. Mateo has pitched well enough to earn a taste of the big leagues, though. BTW, I'm annoyed by the number of spelled-out numbers in that second paragraph. I count seven spelled out numbers in the paragraph two alone, at least there are zero in paragraph one.
  5. I don't think there's anyway he's an "A". He may even be a borderline "B". IIRC, he was a Class "C" FA after the 2004 season. I wonder if that's due to playing time. His rate numbers certainly rank well with 2b-men. And Elias doesn't consider defense when doing the rankings. Could be due to PT, but he hasn't had much more the last 2 years due to injury last year and Dusty this year.

  7. Exactly. Why are people continuously thinking that a guy the Cubs signed for cheap and had no interest from teams 2 years ago, had no interest this offseason when the Cubs were knowingly trying to get rid of him, and has had a down power year was gonna bring back something of substance? Same with the Williamson deal.
  8. Hendry needs to go. At least a 19-yo pitcher has some upside. Walker was a bench player in Dusty's system, that is not gonna be a Cub next year anyway. No problem getting something for him, no matter if Ceda never makes it.
  9. Nice return for the Pirates. Nady is decent, not spectacular. Perez still has something left. He could turn it around and be good. It wasn't happening in Pitt though. Does this mean Lasto Blasto is playing RF for the rest of the season for the Mets?
  10. What do you looking for? Minor leaguers for next year? Pitching? I'm definitely interested. Heck, I don't know really. I'd really like a high scoring OF. Holliday is exempt for the final time, and I can take on some points.
  11. I think it's pointless to look back and try and find good moves and bad moves. What matters is the big picture. A general manager's job is big picture. If the team sucks, it's his fault. You can't really get pissed at a GM who builds a 91 win team that falls a game short. But when you have an upper echelon payroll and build two consecutive horrible teams, you've done a horrible job. Trying to look at a deal or two that weren't all that bad on the surface is pointless. Even if Nolasco, Pinto, and Mitre never throw another pitch it was a bad move, that just happened to work out well. It's bad for the simple fact that it's pretty likely that Hendry could have traded those 3 together or added into seperate deals for a better player than Pierre. The key to any trade is getting the most possible out of the players you give up. There's no doubt that Hendry could have gotten more than Pierre for 3 ML ready arms.
  12. That only makes sense if the Braves are going to move Giles somewhere....and I don't know why the Braves would downgrade two positions. Giles is better than Loretta and Jones is better than Crisp. The do-no-wrong Braves have been making some iffy moves lately. I thought for sure they would be trading Giles, who has really fallen off this year, and given the 2B job to Betemit. Plus, with Chipper down again and becoming pretty injury prone, even less reason to trade Betemit. I don't see why they would want Loretta either, given that he's a FA after this year.
  13. That would be interesting. I don't think the Red Sox would do it with Lester in there, though.
  14. Any interest in Matt Holliday, Tim? And for the record, all my players except Sizemore will be on waivers.
  15. I'd actually rather get prospects from 2 different teams than one. If the Cubs can get Santana and Aybar from LAA, and 2 prospects for Maddux, that's probably more than they'd get from a deal with LAD. I don't see them giving up a ML'er as good as Santana and 3 good minor leaguers.
  16. As stated in the mulitple aramis threads, there will be a potential hole at 3B whether we trade him today or not. He is going to opt out of his contract, and he will be a free agent at the end of this season...no matter what happens today. I think he will give the Cubs a chance to re-negotiate a deal though. No reason for him NOT to test the waters to get more money/years. I think if the Cubs don't trade him, it's a pretty good indication that they think they can re-negotiate an extension.
  17. Just to flesh out the fantasy a little bit... Say both those deals get made. Say we sign Trot Nixon and Craig Wilson. Wilson is a bit of a stretch since I doubt he signs to be a platoon guy, but hey, things have already gone well enough thus far, might as well go all out. 2B (Walker, Loretta, one year guy to hit leadoff to bridge to EPatt) Barrett Lee Nixon/Wilson platoon Jones/Murton platoon LaRoche Pie or Aybar Aybar or Pie Zambrano, Santana, Marshall, Marmol, Prior hard to stomach, but that should leave some money left over, so how about bridge to Pie with an incentive laden deal to Jed? The Cards are losing quite a bit of salary with Marquis, Suppan, and Mulder being FA's. Hard to see them not picking up his option at this point. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to getting a CF in that scenario though. I don't see the Cubs getting rid of Cedeno to play Aybar. I think they move Ronny to 2B. Aybar would likely get the first shot at leadoff.
  18. I'd do Maddux for Delwyn Young and a pitcher in a heartbeat. I would do Maddux and Howry for Laroche alone. He's gonna be good.
  19. Ensberg seems to be available from Houston. Blalock may be available (though, he's not a good option). I think Mora could be had, especially if they can't deal Tejada. Nomar will be on the market again next year. There are options.
  20. His K rate isn't that bad. He doesn't walk at all, but his strikeouts won't be a problem. He has great speed, but can't steal bases very well. 170 steals, but has been caught 82 times. To me, he's Eric Patterson with a better arm and better contact because he swings at more pitches.
  21. That's not true at all, considering they could have gotten at least 1 legit prospect from somebody and still had the millions to spend this offseason.
  22. Yep, that's 2 trades for superstars in which no top prospects were given to the teams trading the star players. Texas and the Yanks got better in 2006, and kept the same outlook for 2007 and beyond.
