  1. That's a nice line for Marshall. Any ideas when he'll be called back up to the big show? Do we even want to bring him back up and further tax his arm this season? I'm guessing they'll wait til Sept 1 when rosters expand. Best case scenario for him is he comes up this weekend and starts in O'Malley's or Rusch's spot (assuming he goes tommorow for Marmol). If they wait til Sept 1, that's only 1 more start he's out anyway.
  2. Wuertz isn't eligible. Nor is Guzman, Hill, Marmol or Mateo. What's the eligibility requirements?
  3. Too bad he's throwing it from the backstop more often than not.
  4. That may be true. AT the very least, Hendry believes it is true and there likely won't be any move to deal Pierre.
  5. Expensive way: Sign Soriano to play 2B, or trade for JD Drew for RF and move Jones to CF (or Drew can play CF), sign Schmidt. Cheap, but still productive way: Sign Loretta to play 2B, Sign Bradley or Roberts to play CF. Sign Hinske for bench. Sign Padilla. RH platoon partner for Jones (don't really know who). Roberts/Loretta Loretta/Murton Lee Ramirez Bradley/Murton Barrett Jones Izturis Zambrano, Prior, Padilla, Marshall, other young pitcher.
  6. Wonder if Fox will catch or play OF. I assume they want him to get the work at C.
  7. Assuming someone else will nominate Veal, I'd like to throw a spot to: Jake Fox- C: Daytona, West Tenn
  8. About the whole day game thing.....how come it's more of a disadvantage to the Cubs, who play over 1/2 its games during the day, than it is for teams that come in Wrigley hardly ever playing day games? Seems like it would be the other way around. Whenever a team has to go to the west coast, it's said to be a disadvantage because of the unusually late game time. Why is that logic thrown out because of an unusually early game time?
  9. 1 move? Switch Petrick and Moore. Not a big Scott Moore fan.
  10. Great game. Can afford a few walks if you don't let em hit you! Nice to see those GOs too. To me, he and Veal are neck and neck. I can see Sean being a solid #2 in this league.
  11. That sucks. But yeah, Lovie didn't seem happy about it. He did say that it was his fault, though, because there's no tackling in camp. I also forgot that Harris was still playing out of position, but still, that was pretty ugly. At least Harris is putting himself in position on plays. He just needs to wrap up. This is something that is taught, so the coaches need to address it before the season starts. I'm happy with him just being in the right place for now. Also, I noted that now Kreutz is back, so the QB fumbles stopped.... Grossman is pressing, because he knows this is it for him. He needs to settle down, but everyone is ignoring several excellent throws he did in fact make, as well as 3 drops on passes that should have been caught (2 by Davis, one by Clark). Simms noted the Bear receivers were dropping way too many balls, as well. The INT was stupid. Dumb throw. And I've got to say: if I see Gabe Reid on a WR fly route during the season, then that's just pathetic. Reid's a TE, not a WR. Too slow to ever get separation on a fly route. So I think they were just experimenting on that play since you would never see it in the regular season. Definitely. I'm not overlooking Grossman. I think I'm his biggest fan (having seen him in HS in Bloomington). I love when he throws on the run. He's very accurate, and tends to focus more on making a good pass, because his feet aren't planted. The play to Berrian was absolutely beautiful. As I said, I think he needs to settle down earlier, and just move the ball downfield, not trying for the big play so much.
  12. I'd say go back up to the top. Most teams are pretty much full now, other than backups and possibly kickers and defenses.
  13. I know as well as anyone that bullpens can completely screw you up.
  14. Wow, do you watch games? as for OBP being important, it is the single whole belief of the A's system to 9 OBP monsters...and exactly how many World Series' have they played in with that philosophy??? scoring runs matters, the other team not scoring runs matters more. OBP matters little. awesome, about time the "do you watch games" counter argument came. yes, i watch games. hitting 4 groundouts to move a runner isn't a great game. it's not the worst possible game, but it's a bad game. it'd be a good game if on one of those groundouts, he instead drove a double to score the runner, or even if he drew a walk to prolong the inning. nice try on the a's argument. it's completely irrelevant and ignorant. how many red sox world series titles did they win with "get as good an obp as possible" philosophy? The interesting question is-is an 0 for 4 game with moving a runner up 3 times better than a 1 for 4 game (with 1 single) and not moving a runner up in any of the 4 at bats. Based on game situations, the answer might be yes-it just would depend on the situations those 4 at bats came in. Again, it all depends. It's not that simple. If a guy goes 0-4, and moves a runner over 3 times and he scores each time, it depends on what else happens. If the guy scores 3 times on doubles, triples, or HRs from the guy after, or a combination of hits....it's a wasted out because if the guy had gotten on base, there would be 1 more run scored. If the guy scores on a wild pitch, balk, or something out of the offense's hands, then it's a more valuable AB. And again, that depends on if the team is winning or losing. If you're down 8-0, moving the runner isn't helping much. More times than not, giving up an out (i.e. moving runners over intentionally, sacrificing), limits your scoring. And like it or not, it is a fact that most games are NOT decided by little things.
  15. Raw Dizzawgs select QB- Kurt Warner and TE- Vernon Davis.
  16. In order, Schmidt Meche Padilla Zito (if he comes cheap) Mussina (if he comes cheap) Eaton
  17. Felix is 1-2 with an IF single to leadoff the game, and a K. He was stranded at 3B. Eric Patterson is 1-1 with a RBI single, driving home Coats after a leadoff double. Restovich also with a single.
  18. I disagree with a lot of this post. First, Neifi is very comparable to Izturis defensively. To me, he was the best SS in baseball defensively in 2005. The numbers support that also. Secondly, Izturis is a .260 hitter lifetime, but also has a sub .300 career OBP, which is absolutely anemic, no matter how you look at it. Third, there's not been a proven set formula to win a World Series. Boston won in 2004 with a 4.51 ERA (19th best) after the AS break that year. They won with Bellhorn, Damon, and Cabrera all being near the bottom of the MLB up the middle defensively. They walked a ton and scored a bunch. The RSox beat the Cards who were better defensively and pitching. The WSox last year won with great starting pitching, pretty good defense at SS and CF, but bad D at 2B. They didn't walk and didn't score very much. The team they played in the WS mirrored that. Lastly, 1982 was a long time ago. The game of baseball has completely changed since then. How many teams have stolen as many bases as the CArds that year? How many 40 HR hitters were there back then? I wouldn't want a GM in 2007 modeling itself after a team from 25 years ago.
  19. No it's not going to happen this year, but for all of the naysayers I think there is a possibility that this team could be in contention next year. Probably the biggest reason is that it's the NL Central, but I've said all along that I'm hoping for 1 FA signing (Schmidt), 1 impact bat acquired in a trade involving a package of Murton/Cedeno/Pie, Marshall/Hill/Guzman/Marmol/Mateo, plus other prospects, and our share of luck and health (Cubs are way overdue). It would be great if Miller can stick as #4 or #5 starter. I agree that the Cubs can compete next year, but you are also counting on nobody else making any kind of moves. The Mets will still be the class of the NL. They will be a major player for Zito, IMO. The Cards aren't gonna be happy with this season and I don't think we can count on them settling for mediocrity in LF, RF, and 2B. The Brewers have a lot of young guys that will be a year older, they will have a healthy Sheets and money this offseason. The Phillies will have money.
  20. I'm 100% willing to accept that consequence. It's better than both being on the team after 9/1. It's better than Neifi being on the team in 2007. Bynum will be gone after this year.
  21. I definitely would have thought the Cubs would be in great shape with those stats. However, it's far from the most frustrating thing about this season. I don't know if you meant it this way, but that makes it sound like you are frustrated because the Cubs should be competing and they are not. To me, I knew the only way the Cubs would compete was if they had a lot of things go right. The most frustrating things to me are (in no order): The moves I was against this offseason coming back to prove my disdain right (Jones, Rusch, Pierre, Perez). The pitching abuse cycle that has not ended even after 2 aces have already gone down. Injuries No signs of any of the top 3 changing anytime soon. There are plenty others.
  22. I'll be rooting for the Cubs to win every single game from here on out, but the best thing for this franchise would be to wind up as the 15th best team in the NL. First of all, gives them the 4th draft pick. Secondly, it gets rid of Baker. Thirdly (and most importantly), it doesn't give this management any false hope. If the Cubs end within 5 games of the wildcard, I believe management will look at it as a positive. I think Hendry will see a team that lost Lee, Wood, and Prior for at least 2/3 of the season each, suffered thru Pierre struggling horribly to start the year and still somewhat competed and not think his team needs a major overhaul...which is bad for this organization. That being said, the Cubs do have 19 games left vs. a division they have nearly dominated. They end with a Rockies team that has slumped badly at times in the 2nd half. But they also have 7 vs. the Phillies who have played well as of late. And 3 vs. the Dodgers who have been world beaters. Basically, they do have a chance to make a mini-run, but not enough to win the wildcard. At worst, they are still ahead of the Pirates. I think at best, they finish among the teams like Atlanta and Milwaukee, 4-6 games back of the WC, and about 8th to 10th best team in the NL.
  23. Have you seen my weekend stats? You have a very good shot.
  24. So, triple or not? MiLB.com changed his triple to a single, apparently. :( Wow, MiLB.com really screwed up...at the time, they called what was an IF single a triple. Well, Felix is really fast.
