  1. Price reminding you of Prior, is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a great thing. And I understand wanting a good college hitter, but the MLB draft is the biggest crapshoot there is. I go for BPA every time, and Price is that to me.
  2. Jones to me has the potential to have a huge year. If he Lee and Ramirez stay healthy and Barrett and Murton continue to hit like they did after June last year, he is gonna be in a position to have a ton of RBI chances. He showed a career best in power last year, and is only a year removed from walking in 9% of his ABs, which would make him a .350 OBP player if he can hit .280 again. I think in his 2nd year in the NL, with a good hitting coach, that can be accomplished. My worry about Pie is that he will be basically a singles hitter, initially. Kinda like a Juan Pierre who strikes out a ton more. That's a huge loss going from Jones' 30 HRs to Pie not likely to get in double figures and not a guarantee to get on base more. I think the Cubs can/should get a lot more from Jones. I think I'd hold onto him til midseason. There's a solid chance Izturis could be hurt and the Cubs be forced to upgrade at SS. I'd hold onto Jones in the hopes that a guy like Bobby Crosby, Khalil Greene, or Renteria could become available if those teams are out around midseason.
  3. I will say what I have said about Angel for the last 4 years. If he is physically able to pitch, he will do it well. Easily the most talented arm to come thru the Cubs system since Zambrano.
  4. NPOY should be Durant, no questions asked. It really should. Watch out for Texas in the tourney. Durant could lead them to a championship. He is that good. He could do what Carmelo did a few years back.
  5. Was there any doubt? He was the shoe-in since this time last year. Tucker, Oden, Neitzel, Haluska on coaches and media's first team. Mike Conley Jr. on one, Geary Claxton on the other. DJ White on 2nd team in both. Rod Wilmont 3rd team on both.
  6. I agree, particularly re Wally, who has been a major disappointment, IMO. I would be very happy about having picks# 37, another first rounder, and two 4th rounders for Jones, Briggs, and Ogunleye. (Assuming Wale goes for a 4th and Briggs for 1st and 4th). The Bears already have the starters in place for Jones and Ogunleye, and they are probably gonna be upgrades. Then they get would have plenty of picks to replace Briggs and upgrade every possible position that needs it. Like Goony said, that would replace some huge contracts with youth, and for the net result would likely be a better team in 2007 and in the future.
  7. I think there was a good chance to get Rufus Alexander at the 64th pick, picking him at 37 would probably be an overdraft. If they want to go LB, I would go with Beason at 31 and go OL at 37.
  8. Yep, the only team they've played in two months is Gonzaga, who they barely beat. And Gonzaga was just discussed as a team not worthy of an at large. I wonder where they get seeded. I agree on Memphis. But they will be at least a 2-seed simply because they will breeze thru their conference tourney, while teams like Wisconsin, UNC, Texas A &M, Texas, and others all have to get thru other top 15 teams in order to win their conference tourney. 1's- Ohio St, UCLA, Florida, Kansas 2's- Memphis, Texas A &M, Wisconsin, Georgetown (because I think they win the conf tourney) 3's- Washington St., Louisville, UNC, Maryland (because I think they win the conf tourney) 4's- Texas, So. Illinois, Nevada, Marquette (because they go further than Pitt or ND in the tourney)
  9. I'm hoping there's also a 5th or 6th rounder involved, or maybe a conditional 2008 pick. Still, I think it's a solid move. It's not the Bears M.O., but this sets up a possible trade up. At the very least, it sets up them getting 2 of the top 40 players in the draft, instead of 1 of the top 60. Can easily get 2 starters in with this draft.
  10. Why did Pie not go to 3rd on a ball hit to 1B?
  11. Kris Dielman is a decent available FA guard. Blocked for LT on the left side last year in San Diego. Very athletic as he was a TE and DE at IU. Just turned 26 a month ago. He likely won't be as expensive as the 2 guys that got huge money today.
  12. Hall is a pretty good DE. That's a solid move by the Rams.
  13. I picked Crosby. I think there is a lot of competition for Pujols' #1 spot. Depending on the league, I could see Howard, Reyes, Soriano or even Santana picked. The fact that Pujols plays 1B, the easiest position to fill with a good player, makes it even less necessary to have him. I didn't pick Lebron, because the NBA leagues I have played in count rebounds, shooting %, 3pt %, assists, etc. I think Dirk and Nash and Dwight Howard could all be better picks. I didn't pick LT, because he wasn't even the #1 pick for most leagues last year. Larry Johnson was the trendy #1 and depending how the league values QBs, P Manning is the top pick. In recent years, Shaun Alexander has also been arguably a more frequent #1 also. I've never played fantasy hockey, and don't follow the sport much, but I believe Crosby is the highest scorer in the league. I don't know what other stats there would be that matter that much for an offensive hockey player.
  14. I'll agree that Briggs isn't elite, but he's by far the closest thing to it that could be available this offseason. He's young unlike London Fletcher and Joey Porter and is a multi-year probowler coming off a Superbowl appearance. A team w/ money and without a ton of holes will likely be willing to give up that for Briggs.
  15. Yeah, if the Bears can get a 1st and 3rd for Briggs, I'd probably do it. Get a LB like Beason from FL with a very similar skill set, and you get a downgrade, but save a ton of money.
  16. I like Quinn and think he's the most sure thing of the QBs, but that blanket statement is a little too much in my opinion. I fully expect Quinn to have the better career. But he can't touch Russell talent wise. I see this as a situation similar to last year's with Leinart and Vince. Leinart was more of a sure thing, Vince had far more upside (but was less likely to be good). Except Young's upside came from unbelievable athleticism that Russel doesn't have at all. Size, strength, arm strength. And I do think Russell is a better athlete. I think Quinn is as polished as it gets as a college QB. How much better can he get in the NFL? Russell put up great numbers against better competition than Quinn and still has some development left. Quinn against defenses ranked top-35 in 2005-06: 2,301 yards, 18 TDs, 6 INTs in 9 games Russell against ranked teams for his career: 15 TDs, 17 INTs Russell against ranked teams last year: 8 TDs, 7 INTs That's what I don't understand, not to mention that ND's schedule strength was a little better than LSU's was last year. How come you aren't using the same stats for both guys? No passing yards for Russell? No 06 numbers for Quinn? And is that ranked teams or top 35 defenses for Russell?
  17. Steinbach would be perfect. I still like the idea of drafting a guy like Sears, Staley, or Blalock who can play either G or OT. Plus, you can trade down and still likely get one of those gusy. And I still like Tony Ugoh as a tackle in the 2nd, if he's there. Has a lot of issues which could make him available there.
  18. Bly along with Bailey will make it very difficult to pass against Denver. Bly isn't that good. He's no better than Darrent Williams, who they lost.
  19. I like Quinn and think he's the most sure thing of the QBs, but that blanket statement is a little too much in my opinion. I fully expect Quinn to have the better career. 20. I like Quinn and think he's the most sure thing of the QBs, but that blanket statement is a little too much in my opinion. I fully expect Quinn to have the better career. But he can't touch Russell talent wise.
  21. That works for me. I still wonder about Posluszny's knee and there are a few guys I'd rather have in the 15-20 range. Yeah, 15-20 was hard for me. Reggie Nelson, Revis, Hall, and Jarrett could have all been there. I'm really not a Ginn fan, so I could put Nelson there. Olsen and Houston ran so well this week(end), that I had to put them in there.
  22. Not that anyone cares, but my draft board for Best Player Available. 1. Calvin Johnson 2. Joe Thomas 3. Adrian Peterson 4. LaRon Landry 5. Jamarcus Russell 6. Amobi Okoye 7. Alan Branch 8. Brady Quinn 9. Jamaal Anderson 10 Gaines Adams 11 Adam Carriker 12 Lawrence Timmons 13 Patrick Willis 14 Robert Meachem 15 Chris Houston 16 Paul Posluszny 17 Greg Olsen 18 Levi Brown 19 Marshawn Lynch 20 Ted Ginn Jr. Granted, a lot of this is based on the combine, in which a lot of these guys didn't participate.
  23. Cubs are gonna score 3 in the first inning off of Zito. BOOK IT!
  24. Chris Houston is the best CB in the entire draft. Hall gets all the publicity because he played at Michigan, but Houston is gonna be a better NFL CB. I think this is gonna be a great draft for the Bears. A lot of value picks. I honestly feel they could pick the BPA at 31 and get a great player. I also think the 2nd and 3rd rounders could be great players.
