  1. Good way to not hear about Adam Greenberg is to.......I don't know....not open a thread with the title "Greenberg on Outside the Lines...."
  2. I absolutely love Durant. He could be a great pick in the 3rd round. I'd be very happy with that draft. WR isn't the biggest need, but if Jarrett is around at 31, there's a good chance he's the best player on the board at that point. And WR will become a need position after 2007. Moose is on his way out. Berrian could be a FA. Bradley hasn't been healthy or good enough. That draft would be near perfect for me. Get a top 5 WR. Get the best pure guard in the draft and my #1 sleeper at OLB.
  3. This is the unofficial Raisin hatred thread for at least the next 2 days.
  4. Damn, I look stupid for picking Stanford in the Sweet 16. I'm not a aTm believer.
  5. I love that the Cardinal are facing the Cardinals right now. And then an all Wildcats matchup w/ UK and Nova. That crazy committee and their matchups.
  6. Comptuer I will follow it on the computer, but that's not the same. I'll never get in to view the game.
  7. Why the hell am I working today? And I just discovered I won't be able to see the IU game, because they are on the same time as Pitt.
  8. I'm good at picking national champions. Didn't pick Florida last year, but I believe I picked the previous 4 winners.
  9. That's always been my thinking.
  10. Sucks for the Southern League hitters. I'd love to see that, if Sean only stays for a month or so (like I expect).
  11. I like that idea. I doubt a deal could be done that is that simple, but that could be the framework to get something done. I think a deal is more likely at the deadline. Like I said in other threads, depending on the teams' success, I could see Renteria, O. Cabrera, Crosby all being available. The question becomes is the upgrade at SS offensively more than the downgrade in the OF from Jones to Pie.
  12. My idea is trade Jones + Izturis for Edgar Renteria. Don't know if Atlanta would do it, though, since Langerhans is hitting this spring.
  13. Tulo and Matsui will be starting, but I think the Rocks will keep Barmes and Carroll considering neither starter is a sure thing. I think they'll at least keep them for the first month or so. I don't think they'll keep Barmes. I'd be interested in him, but I wouldn't trade Jones for him. The Rockies probably wouldn't have much use for him anyway with Holliday and Hawpe on the corners with Baker in waiting.
  14. Give to Guzman. He's the most talented of the 2, has the best long-term future of all 3 (including Prior). Just give him the job and stick with him there.
  15. I noticed a pattern the past two seasons...Mike Brown goes down, this D goes south.... I noticed Mike Brown goes down, Bears finish with best record in NFC twice and go to Superbowl once.
  16. Not me. I'd definitely need more. Maybe the 1st pick in the 2nd round, but definitely not some mid-2nd rounder. I'd have to get a 2008 pick thrown in. You have to consider the market, the Bears have to find a team that 1) Needs a WILL linebacker(or MLB, he could defineltly slide over) 2) Will pay 6+ million for one(Briggs expected contract demands) 3) Will pay this money for a LB with marginal pass rush skills 4) Will be willing to give up a high draft pick If Briggs was still under contract for few more years a trade would be easier. Or 5) Keep a player that's far more valuable than a 2nd round pick. or 6, draft A linebacker in X round and not miss a beat. Tommie Harris, Brian Urlacher, Mike Brown, those are the jugguarants on this defense, not Lance Briggs. Mike Brown? He's in no way more important than Briggs.
  17. The Bears don't have to trade Briggs. Like I said, a guy who hasn't made $1M in any single season to this point is not gonna give away $7.2M out of spite. He'll play. Heck, if he doesn't he's probably throwing away a chance at a big payday next year. I'm sure he can make more money by playing next year, than by taking a chance someone will guarantee him a whole bunch of money when he hasn't played in over a year. The Bears shouldn't settle for less than a 1st and 2nd/high 3rd rounder this year. Or 1st this year and 2nd next year. No matter what Briggs says, the Bears don't have their backs against the wall. They have 100% of the leverage here.
  18. Really? PECOTA projects Pie to be worth 2 wins more than Jones this year. Does Pecota add a platoon partner for Jones? Probably not.. Who's his platoon partner for the Cubs? Ken Rosenthal thinks the Cubs will platoon Jones with either DeRosa or Theriot. Lou loves to play percentages so I could see it happening. Good to see the Cubs are trying to get another IF. The Cubs have the OF covered with Floyd, Ward and Theriot all able to play there. The non-1B IF is weak with just Theriot and Cedeno as the only options.
  19. Kip has always been one of those guys that I've said...."if you get him a good pitching coach........" He did have a good year to year and a half in Pittsburgh, but he's like Matt Clement. Very good arm, very good potential...late bloomer who needs the right coach to bring it out of him. On the downside, if he does turn the corner, he probably doesn't have the stuff anymore to be effective for more than 2-3 years ala Clement.
  20. Nothing personal, but I hate this type of thinking. If you are a paperboy and you are getting 40,000 and can feed your family just fine, but other paperboys are getting 100,000 for doing the same amount of work, then you are gonna want 100,000, because that's what you're worth. It's not about having "enough" money, it's about having what you deserve. Briggs is one of the top 2-3 OLBs in the game. Top players around the league have long-term guaranteed contracts, in which they are paid market value. Briggs doesn't have that. I don't blame him for being upset. neither do i. he's trapped right now because of the franchise tag, which he and rosenhaus wagered that they wouldn't use. the bears used it and now he HAS to play for them or sit out and look for an apartment. he's in a pretty bad position and he's frustrated, which he should be. however, it's not the bears fault either. i'd think you can't blame either side for the predicament, both are protecting their own interests. Exactly. This is actually, exactly what I expected to happen this offseason. Neither side is wrong. Both sides are playing hardball.
  21. This is mostly true. Unfortunatly for Briggs, he plays the most easily replaced position in the defensive scheme. He's a very good player in the system but a lot of linebackers would look pretty good playing next to Urlacher and playing wil linebacker behind the Bears defensive line. I don't think the drop off in production that would happen by losing Briggs is enough to justify spending the money on him. It looks like the Bears agree. I'd rather save the money for the plethora of players that will be requiring new contracts within the next two years. I agree that Briggs has the easiest position to replace, but that doesn't mean you do it just for the heck of it. I'd rather pay Briggs big money and keep the unit together than gambling with someone else having that type of ability and work ethic. Well, obviously the Bears aren't doing it for the heck of it. They think the resources required to extend Briggs are better spent elsewhere. I agree. I know the Bears aren't. But it seems like people around here would if they were in the Bears position.

  24. Briggs will not show up to camp, but he will come ready to play by the last preseason game. I know he wants a big pay day, but it doesn't make any since to give up $7.2M guaranteed, just because you are waiting for $25M or so, guaranteed, when you can just play and get both. I don't think the Bears will sign him long-term. So, it's Briggs' choice. And he'd be stupid to pick 0 for this year and a long-term deal over 7.2M this year and a long-term deal.
