  1. WOO! Carlos over 116 pitches for the 6th time in his last 7 starts, now when he gives up 6 runs in 3 innings vs the Padres this weekend everyone will wonder why he sucks again.
  2. I think the FA group makes the FA pickings look real slim. But it may not be. In light of recent events, this may bring about boos, but there's not much chance Edgar Renteria is a Brave next year. Yunel Escobar is ready, as we have seen and is a natural SS. Brandon Wood is a possible trade target, but the Cubs would have to give up a lot to get him. If the Angels do keep Wood and he stays at SS, Orlando Cabrera could be available. Angels also have Erick Aybar who would be a better option than Izturis. Of course, we all know Arod could be available along with the ever possible Tejada trade. A lesser option is Alberto Callaspo in Arizona, who doesn't have much power or OBP.
  3. Crap. So I guess that means that Pagan, Koyie Hill, and Izturis are all still on the team. Get healthy soon, ARAM. We have 5 infielders (Derosa, Izterrible, Theriot, Fontenot, Lee) and 6 outfielders. (Soriano, Pie, Floyd, Jones, Murton, Pagan) :? And at least 2 of those IFs could play OF, and have started there this year. One of the OF can play IF, and that's in an extreme emergency.
  4. First in the East all by my lonesome! Also, a huge points lead in my division and overall. I'm 8-2 in 2 leagues, 7 wins in a row in 1 league, 5 wins in a row in this one. I don't plan on either stopping.
  5. Jon's a shoe-in for the Elite 8. Edited when discovered in the same bracket as Jon.
  6. A guy with "wood" in his name vs. a guy with the acronym NUN. The committee had fun with this one.
  7. Lou screwed up when he didn't bring Wuertz back for his 2nd inning. Even though his spot came up in the order, Barrett had just hit a HR, giving the Cubs the lead. No reason not to let Wuertz hit for himself. Once he did that, there was no way NOT to have Dempster throw 2 innings. Gallagher was probably not available. Eyre probably could have been used if needed, but probably not a good spot for him in a close game.
  8. And Byrnes with a steal!
  9. Embree with a save! Dawgs take the lead! I'm up 4.75 now, including a Byrnes single and OHud K. This game will probably go as the Cubs go tonight. Assuming Byrnes and Lugo can at least match Hud's production the rest of the Bos/AZ game, it will come down to R. Soriano tonight. Cubs win, Soriano probably never gets in. Cubs lose, likely it's because Soriano sets up the save.
  10. Damn Dice K has walked O Hud twice. He better not score.
  11. Yeah, I noticed that. Sheffield actually wound up with more than Crawford.
  12. The person who offers the best pitcher gets Ian Kinsler. Keeper at 2B.
  13. What a game going on between Alamo Stealth and Raw Dawgs! The 2 first place teams in their division are proving why they are there. Sabathia has thrown an absolute gem today. His 2nd scoreless 9-inning outing, fortunately for me, he won't get a complete game/ shutout because of a 0-0 score vs. Cincy. Stealth again laying an egg offensively, with just a 5-point day. Dawgs up exactly 5 points at 4pm EST. Stealth has 6 hitters playing currently, with just Orlando Hudson left to play. In relief, he has 1 closer (Dotel) who's team is up 1 as we speak. Lidge probably won't get in today, and he has Rafael Soriano tonight. Dawgs have 5 players currently playing, with my 2nd and 3rd lowest scorers left to play (Lugo/Byrnes). I have Linebrink and Embree in relief left to play, and Wagner not likely to see time with his team behind big late. Should be a decent ending that could come down to relief pitching, which has been pretty even so far.
  14. Well, when you consider the circumstances...... -44 years old -didn't have spring training -groin problems -coming off an 88 pitch outing in the minors -Yanks need a spark -just cured cancer last night -son has a game tomorrow -dog died in the 2nd inning -had diarrhea between innings -woke up from a coma this morning That was the greatest game ever pitched!
  15. I'm sure this was mentioned in the gamethread, but I hope everyone caught that Len mentioned this post on NSBB broke the news of Sean to the majors. He mentioned the message board, and mentioned Mr. Gallagher (although not by name), and they even showed the Gallagher family, I presume. BTW, I thought Sean was very good today. He gave up the inherited run on a ball he left up and made a mistake on the Harris double, but the Renteria HR was a decent pitch, that we all saw barely make it over the wall. I love the way Gally attacked hitters. He was not afraid to let the Braves put the ball in play. All in all, I hope the Gallagher family is proud of the kid's debut. I'm not sure if he has ever inherited runners on base in his life. And to encounter that in his ML debut and still go after hitters the way he did bodes well for his very bright future. He impressed by continuing to attack after the HR. In all, Gally threw 10 first pitch strikes to 14 hitters, and threw 32 of 54 pitches for strikes. Congrats to the Gallagher family.
  16. Wow. Both me and Alamo blew big chances to open up huge leads on each other. Stealth had 3 starts yesterday and 1 early today while I had none over that span. Beckett pitched a great game, but Lincecum (6.25) and Oliver Perez (-1.25) both pitched poorly. I had 4 starts today. Santana made one mistake, but I frankly expected more than 18 points at home vs. the Nats today. Marquis laid an egg, but thanks to his throwing error, I was spared by 4 of the 6 runs being unearned. And his -4.5 points could have easily had another 10 negative on that. Micah Owings is trying to salvage this week for me as we speak and I'm currently up 30, but he still has Sabathia tomorrow who put up 46.5 last time out. Alamo has more pitching points than me right now and has a start in hand. He's had a balanced offense, with just 1 player under double digits. But Wright, Crawford, and Sheffield have been amazing this week for me.
  17. soriano might have something to say about that. He actually passed Crawford for the week. If Soriano takes the high week for the seaosn, I'll gladly give that up if it means 2 more Cub wins.
  18. The crazy thing is, all they need is a top-notch QB to become an elite team. They've got the running game (Jones-Drew and Taylor), the receivers (Matt Jones, etc) the line and the defense. I was very afraid when they had the chance to draft Brady Quinn. I think the QBs would be better w/ better WRs. I don't like that group at all.
  19. He deserves more time before any final judgement is made. But I can't understand how anybody could think it's too early to express any concern. There is nothing wrong with be concerned. Definitely. I think you can tell worry about plate discipline after about 40 ABs. You'd like to see 4 or 5 at the very least at that point. One walk at this stage is pretty bad. Pie does look like he has good strikezone judgement, but he does seem to fish at sliders in the dirt a little too much. He does an excellent job with the zone in, out and high. That other Cubs CF from the past had zone judgement problems everywhere, I'm not too worried about Pie at this point, but slightly concerned.
  20. J'Ville likes the brothas!
  21. 3rd, I'd still accept in a heartbeat.....especially with the Bears track record. 4th rounder, is not enough, IMO. Again, 2nd would be amazing.
  22. Wow. If you want to beat the Braves throw a LH starter at them. Hill is now 2-0 vs. them and has given up just 1 ER on 7 hits in 16 innings, with 18 strikeouts. And we all saw Marshall's numbers from before. In addition, the Braves have lost to Oliver Perez 3 times, Dontrelle Willis and Cole Hamels twice. Granted, those are all harder throwers than the Cubs duo (soon to be trio with Lilly on Sunday). But the Braves have also lost to Jamie Moyer and Kason Gabbard, and have not faired very well twice against Scott Olsen. That's 13 of their 28 losses that have come vs. LH starters. I didn't go thru the rest of their losses to see who started, nor did I go thru their wins, but this bodes well for the Cubs this series, assuming they can score runs.
  23. Rotoworld I would definitely take a 2nd rounder for Brown. oh yeah Holy crap. A 2nd round pick from one of those teams would be a top 55. That would be an amazing haul for Alex Brown. Don't really want the Bears to trade him, but I would kill for a 2nd rounder for him.
  24. I was actually thinking about the possibility of Z to the Indians recently. But I didn't think Miller would be in the question whatsoever. I was thinking along the lines of Lofgren, Betancourt, and Barton/Crowe.
