  1. I agree to some extent to. Of course, I have auctioned off players too. I think the reason to do so is that a lot of people don't read the on-the-block updates. And personally, I like getting offers more than making them. Announcing who's available on here lets you know who is interested. It saves time rather than offering a player to a team that either isn't willing to give up certain players or don't have a need for the players you are offering. When I have announced a player has been up for grabs on here, it has been because I have been in a position where I needed to make a roster move ASAP. With Marquis, I had Gallardo coming to the majors with a 2 start week, and needed the roster space to get him in my lineup. With Eric Byrnes, I traded Capuano and had a SP go down. And with no decent FAs at the time, I needed a starter going into the coming week.
  2. A lot of love for Ervin Santana. Johan Santana Peavy Jose Reyes Chase Utley Justin Verlander
  3. I think he can score better than he did at UF. Maybe not initially, but he's a guy that can get 10ppg based on his offensive rebounding ability, his ability to finish, his ability to run the floor on the break better than most big man in the NBA (whereas in college he faced guys just as athletic and young), and simply by playing in a NBA style offense, where spacing tends to be better. I'm betting he can hit an elbow/baseline jumper as well as PJ Brown does now. Couple that with his motor, ability to rebound and run the floor, and pass, and his size, and I don't see how he can't help this team down low. Seriously. Compared to PJ. He's an upgrade all the way around. He's really the only player there at 9 that's gonna be an improvement in 2007-08. Others are long-term projects. Granted, I would rather gamble on a project like Brandan Wright or Yi, but Noah is the safe pick that will help this team get better without making a trade.

  5. I think there could be a lot of trades in this draft, thus....none will happen. Last year was a pretty wild draft, though, so maybe that trend will continue. If Atlanta is truly holding up the Stoudamire/Garnett deal, they are stupid not to give up their 2 picks. Phoenix is also stupid for doing this deal also as Amare is a better player than Garnett at this stage.
  6. That could be a great draft. I'm thinking the 2 2nd rounders will be gone, though.
  7. Right now I would take Noah over Hawes. Hawes has some really nice post moves, but these two things scare me. 1) He is still raw 2) Isn't athletic That isn't a good combo IMO. Noah is a safe pick. He has an NBA body, and should be a great defender off the bat. If the Bulls traded Ben Wallace down the line, I could see Noah filling in nicely at C, with TT at PF. With Tyrus, Wallace, and Noah....the Bulls could easily lead the East in offensive boards. Somewhat of a problem last year, and a big reason Cleveland won the East. Noah reminds me of Varejao, but more athletic and better offensively.
  8. Uh, why can't you play 2 of Wallace, Thomas, Noah together? That makes no sense.
  9. He should be gone long before the Bulls pick in the 2nd. I bet he falls in the 17-24 range of the first round. hmm..nbadraft.net had him in the mid 2nd. I think I should stop visiting that site. They seem pretty off base. I don't think he'll go that high, but he definitely won't be there for the Bulls in the 2nd. I'm thinking more 24-30.
  10. I've read that the Bulls will take Noah if he's there. If not, Hawes. I too am starting to warm up to Noah, despite the fact that I would have to look at his face for way too many games. I think he can hit a mid-range jumper. He's a better rebounder and shot blocker than PJ at this stage. He's a good finisher around the rim. Any chance the Bulls look to trade Ben Wallace if they draft a big man? Maybe in a deal to Memphis with Gordon for Gasol? Maybe in an effort to get back into the Kobe sweepstakes?
  11. UK said I was only 1 of 2 he would vote for before himself. Unfortunately for me, I have a handful of guys I would vote for before myself and all have advanced to the Elite 8 so far, except for Uk himself. It was hard to vote against Brian, though. I mean the guy has(d) a Robbie Gould avatar!
  12. not really... Jim Thome had a monster year in 2004, which was also the year that Howard broke out. All you can really criticize the Phillies for is having him in the minors for half of 2005, and during that time Thome was on the team. Agree. And Thome's still a good player. He still gets on base nearly 1/2 the time he comes to the plate. But he's a DH who maybe never should have been signed in the first place. Still glad the Cubs stayed away. I'm glad the Cubs stayed away too. But when he signed, he still had a couple years left at 1B. Everyone knew he would be a DH by the middle of that contract. And the Phils got a couple good years out of him and traded him and got value in return. Unfortunately for them, they didn't win.

  14. I'm getting the crap beat out of me. Nice week we are having Alan Embree. If he was on the DL, I would have 21 more points.
  15. Eh. Yay! The Brewers are lessening their starting rotation. BOO! For my fantasy team.
  16. I am very confident in the Cubs ability to secure at least the wildcard if they continue to win at the same pace they have been over the last 6 days. If they continue to win at the pace they have over the past 6 days, they'll win 123 games. They only play Milwaukee 6 times, though. So, they'll lose the division by a game. Brewers have won 3 straight, 7 of 8, 14 of 17.
  17. I don't get to actually watch many games right now, so I haven't seen him play. What are his defensive shortcomings? I assume he has the arm for 2b, as all that requires is he physically have an arm. So is it range? Does he boot the ball a lot? He's shown none so far. He looks to have a better than average arm. He looks to have above average range. I always heard his problem was his hands. That he doesn't field the ball cleanly enough. He doesn't make the spectacular play (although, he has made a couple so far in the majors), and had a tendency to boot easy ones also. He committed 65 errors at 2B in 3 years as an Orioles prospect.
  18. Brandan Wright would be great if he dropped to 9.
  19. Fontenot can really hit. He can't hit as well as he has so far, consistently, but he's a guy that could conceivably hit .300 with 15 HRs. I see the top of his production in the .300/.370/.470 range. While most likely being a guy that will put up .280/.340/.440. The question with him has always been his ability to field his position, wherever that may be.
  20. Brewer would be nice. He's a SF, but could play the 2G pretty easily. He would be a great answer to Rip, LeBron, and Carter in the East. He would allow the Bulls to trade Gordon possibly in a package for Gasol or a similar player.
  21. Wuertz, Guzman, Petrick, and Marmol all could be awesome relievers. Notice the irony that by the end of the year they could be the Cubs best relievers, and look....none of them are named Eyre, Dempster, or Howry...and none of them were given large contracts. Note to Cubs.....build your bullpen homegrown. How much clearer does it have to get?
  22. is he any good? Second question, independent of the first.....has he been called up yet?
  23. Vasher wasn't very tough last year. Maybe it was just me, but I don't think he did a good job of tackling last year. He seemed reluctant to put his head in there and make a tackle.
  24. Oh, NOW he's on the block!
