  1. While the Angels possibly have did this.. Braves fan here at work hates that deal. I can't believe Rangers would trade Tex in the division unless they got a lot more than Saunders and Kotchman.
  2. If I were the Cubs, I would seriously look into getting Cordero from the Nats, and then turn around and look to move Dempster or Howry to another contender for prospects.
  3. It is a keeper league, but we can't keep players drafted in the 1st 2 rounds. We can keep anyone else, but we lose that pick in the next year's draft. Oh, well that changes my opinion then. What's the point of that rule, confusion? It's supposed to create better competition, so year in and year out you don't have the same team winning. Though, I don't see how that's even possible as volatile as football is.

  5. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2007/07/another-white-s.html If is is possible that the Mariners would give up Balentien for Garland, I think the Sox should do it. Yeah, that's pretty much a no-brainer. I'd almost do that straight up if I'm the Sox.
  6. I wouldn't count out the Phils. Granted, they still can't pitch, but Ryan Howard showed last year he can get hot enough to carry that team.
  7. Cubs are in trouble, if they don't hit for power vs. Cincy.
  8. Fixed. Thanks. I just came back to change that.
  9. Cubs are tied for the 3rd fewest losses in the NL. What a turn of events.
  10. Dbacks can't hit. Phillies and Rockies can't pitch. Padres are average offensively and in the rotation. Braves are solid offensively and have 2 great arms in the rotation, and though it's a bad cliche...they've been there before. None of them will spend the money or prospects it will take to make a huge leap, that's why I think the Brewers and Cubs will be playoff teams.
  11. Brit in a landslide. Paris was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She's used to the media scrutiny and thrives on it. Lindsay wasn't the same, but was a child actress. She has been groomed to handle the media. Britney was a Mickey Mouse kid, but she got thrusted into the big-time really fast. The other 2 were more gradual. And as much stupid things as the other 2 have done, they can be viewed as things the typical rich, white-girl does (other than the sex tape). But Brit has run to Vegas and gotten married. She has married a badboy and got married, had 2 kids. Shown her hoo-ha in public. Shaved her head. Lohan's gonna always act. Casting directors like her, show she will get work. Paris always has her parents money to fall back on. Brit's life is based on her body and ability to sell sex. She's lost her innocence and has little talent. Her being a parent has just given the media another thing to harp on her about. It seems to be getting to her more than the other 2 also.
  12. Noah Lowry p 4 years/$9.25M (2006-09), plus $6.25M 2010 club option signed extension 4/06 $1M signing bonus 06:$0.385M, 07:$1.115M, 08:$2.25M, 09:$4.5M, 10:$6.25M club option bonuses may increase total value of extension to $17M escalators may increase 2010 club option to $7.75M Well crap. I guess they could still trade him, but he's still pretty cheap.
  13. He hits right-handed. Moore hits left-handed. And yes, he's better.
  14. Try telling that to the half dozen or so contending teams that are trying to add a league average starter this week, and (so far) having no luck. I think teams are looking for a huge upgrade. If the Cubs would be replacing Marshall, I think they could get similar production (not what Sean has done, but what he is likely to do the rest of the year) after the deadline. I'd think a guy like Noah Lowry could be had pretty cheaply. Lowry's not going anywhere. He's 26 and the Giants will and should be looking to the future. He's in that future. I know he's young, but that rotation will be built around Lincecum and Cain. Plus, they are stuck with Zito. Jonathan Sanchez (another LHP) is in the pen now, but a solid SP prospect. And I believe Lowry should be arbitration eligible this year. If they want to save a few more bucks and get younger in the process, they will listen. They don't have a lot of youth coming up the pipe as far as position players go. I think Lowry could be had for a couple decent IF/OF prospects.
  15. YES! He's my favorite Wigginton in the MLB.
  16. I'd have no problem dealing Hill or Marshall if it netted a significant upgrade at C, SS, CF or RF. A 5th starter is only valuable for the balance of the regular season. I agree that Gallagher is a bit raw, but in my opinion the difference between an impact bat vs. one of the holes over the next eight weeks is greater than the difference between Hill/Marshall and Gallagher. A weak 5th starter might tax the pen a bit, but you've got Sept. callups to offset that some. yeah but not only are you opening a hole on this year's team, you're also trading away a young, cheap, productive pitcher who has significant value in future years. Which is why one of those pitchers should and could be the centerpiece of any deal and they should be able to get some significant. If somebody wants them, and more, or if they are only willing to give up a marginal improvement, than no way. Exactly, and if there's one thing the Cubs have shown they can do...it's produce a Marshall type of pitcher. He's not easily replaceable this year, but for the future, it's not issue.
  17. Jones negated a lot of his quickness advantage, by dancing. Benson hit the hole much faster. I don't want to simply trash Jones though, he was a good Bear and always worked real hard. That might be his biggest advantage going over to the Jets -- he keeps himself in fine shape every year. Maybe that will let him perform at a high level longer. Did we eventually turn the Jones trade into like 4 picks though? I can't see any way someone who is objective could call that being 'pilfered' Jones was good with the Bears. Very much above average. He worked hard and turned his career around. But was still at best in the 2nd tier of RBs. He's being replaced by a player who at worst should be in that same tier as he proved in 06.

  19. Johnny Damon is Juan Pierre with less speed at this point.
  20. I doubt Griffey is happening. Tex is definitely not gonna happen. Dunn and Dye are the best hopes right now.

  22. Depends on how well you think Gallagher could do in Marshall's spot. Almost .200 OPS points is a MASSIVE improvement. We can't just look past that fact. I understand that...but is it worth the gamble that you'd be taking in putting a completely untested rookie pitcher into the rotation? I say no. But I understand both sides. Assuming you think the Cubs still have a good shot at the playoffs with a Gallagher starting the rest of the way, you also have to take into account that in the playoffs, Marshall probably doesn't see much, if any, time, while Griffey can very well have a significant impact. This is a good point on trading from the rotation to upgrade the offense, but in that case I'd like to see someone with a good long term future brought in return(i.e. Dunn, Teixeira instead of Griffey or Dye). I wouldn't give up much of anything for Dye. Cedeno (since they have been looking for a SS since Ozzie retired from playing), Murton, and Veal is about the extent of my offer.
  23. I'd trade Marshall for Griffey or Dunn if it was a dealbreaker. I think the Cubs could get by with the extra offense and by mixing and matching in the 5th starter's role. Plus, I think getting a league average starter wouldn't be very hard. Sure, you take a hit in the rotation, but as has been mentioned, you boost everyday production while losing some every 5th day.
  24. If you look at recent trades, you don't see a lot of big-time young prospects getting traded. Teams seem to be most interested in (or in some case only able to acquire) talent that is close to the majors, but won't really get a shot in the immediate future. Teams will approach the Cubs for most of the AAA team at this point. Pie, Gallagher, Patterson, Petrick, Murton, etc. All of those guys can be put right into a non-contending team's lineup without much of a dropoff.
  25. Me too. Grossman does have to improve his overall numbers, but he has shown he can do it. It's not like he was putting up a 70 passer rating every game. He put up 10 games over 85. While the better competition this year, probably won't lead to as many great games this year, if he can eliminate the blowup games, he's a top 10 QB in the league. I don't know how to calculate QB rating, but I'd imagine if you take out the GB game and the Cards game and make them average, you'd already have Grossman in the top 10 QBs.
