  1. QBs are really undervalued with INTs almost negating any TD passes. Of Bulger doesn't throw many picks, so he is one of the better QBs to have. Assuming Bulger was your 4th rounder (Rudi, Bush, Roy), I probably would have gone with another WR or RB and taken my chances with a lesser QB, but still not INT prone.
  2. Man, I took out Ollie Perez at the last minute assuming he would get beat up by the Braves...and he did with 6 ERs in 5 IP. But I replaced him w/ Gallardo who gave up 11 ERs in 2.2 IP. Holy crap.
  3. callup Pie, Pigs and Soto. Send down Gallagher, Fontenot and Koyieieo Hill.
  4. Gimme Marvin Harrison
  5. Wow. Very similar to GMJr last year. Almost identical numbers. About the same age. However, it is a short-term deal. If he can give them 1 more year like this year and 2 average years, it may be worth it to a team that doesn't have much payroll tied anywhere else.
  6. As long as further notice is 2 seconds later when you replace Floyd or Jones with Murton. I think the Cubs also need to start working in more off days for DeRosa. He's been brutal since June. They have him playing all over the field, and he's appeared in more games than every position player besides Soriano. There's no reason why DeRosa should be mixing into the OF mix at this point. Let him start at 2B, or at 3B when Ramirez sits. When Fontenot plays, then Mark can go to the bench. I completely forgot about Murton. Obviously, I'd want him to play a lot.
  7. Now is the perfect time to end the Pagan experiment. OF should be Floyd, Pie, Jones until further notice, with Derosa mixed in when Fontenot is at 2B.
  8. I wasn't nearly as excited as I thought I'd be. Maybe it was because of what had occured in the game to that point. But yeah, I kinda felt like I did when Wade Miller pitched last year. I treated the situation like this was a guy with all kinds of potential, but wouldn't be around for any significant time in the future. Want him to do well and get healthy, but probably not worth the money to re-sign if he does. Not worth the headache if he doesn't.
  9. A lot of the talk in this thread and in the offseason has been about the offense. But quietly, I have been worried about the defense. All these big plays and impressive performances have been coming against the Bears D. I'm encouraged to read this morning's story that the Bears #1 D came out on top of the Bears #1 offense for probably the first time all training camp. Not too worried about the run D, mainly due to the best LB and safety group in the NFL. But the pass D gives me a little cause for concern. Archuleta isn't good against the pass. Brown is solid, but more of a positioning guy that a FS that can make up ground with his speed if a WR beats a CB deep. The CBs are both very rich now, and I'm just hoping they don't let up....even in the slightest. I think there are some tough matchups the Bears will face this season, including Williams/Johnson twice for Detroit. A smart OC can take advantage of the pass D on occasion.
  10. A nice blow to the Braves' Wild Card hopes, which could help the Cubs if Milwaukee wins the division. A Braves fan friend of mine swears they are gonna win the division since they got Teixeira and Dotel. There's no way they are catching the Mets without another arm in the rotation. And I think they will have too many teams to catch in the wildcard. They have 24 games left with teams with better or equal records at this point in the season. And that's not including a 10-game road stretch against below .500 teams, 2 of whom are the Reds and Cards who have very respectable home records considering their seasons.
  11. Here's hoping he's Shockey, but with a focused mind. There's no telling how good Shockey could have been if he was sane. That's gonna be the obvious comparison. Both TEs out of Miami, both with athleticism of a WR. Rachel Nichols also said the Bears are gonna put him all over the field. Lots of double TE sets creating mismatches. He's gonna be in the slot, he's gonna be out wide. Again, I think the Bears learned a lot from watching Dallas Clark and the Colts in the Superbowl.
  12. Not gonna help you! Alamo and Raw Dawgs both a win away from a clinched playoff berth!
  13. 2nd city? Second to whom?
  14. So they didn't know he was coming before? I don't get it. Ha. Benson got the ball about 80% of the time when he was in the game. The Bears rarely used him on passing downs last year. If anything, they knew when he was coming more last year than they will as an every down back.
  15. Definitely has strikezone issues, but he's hitting for a decent average, on pace for 25 HRs and 40+ doubles. 21 yo all year in AA. Typical toolsy player's struggles at a high level.
  16. I liked Harris. Harris is what he is.....he was a 6th round pick, who wasn't recruited by major football programs. He has slightly below average speed for a safety and is slightly below average instinctively. There was a reason he was demoted from the starter at FS in week 3. There was also a reason why he wasn't the 1st choice to replace an injured Mike Brown at SS. That being said, he isn't a bad player. He made the most out of his talent. He hit hard, and repeatedly stepped up when he was called upon to do so. He was finally gonna start the season in the role he was meant for....a backup safety. I don't think anything's wrong with the move. The Bears still have the depth at the S position. Basically a trade of Darwin Walker for Chris Harris, filling a need and getting rid of what probably was a surplus.
  17. OF- Quentin, Young, Upton 3B- Tracy, SS- Drew, 2B- Hudson, 1B- Jackson C- Montero That's how the D'Backs look to stack up next year. They also have Mark Reynolds and Alberto Callaspo able to play pretty much anywhere on the diamond. Not to mention another super prospect, Carlos Gonzalez on the horizon. Arizona has a lot of ways to go next year offensively. Any chance they try the Jackson to LF experiment again or move Chad Tracy back out there? My guess is they'd like to trade either Jackson or Tracy for pitching, but can either get them much in return? Even if they do that, they will have the money (and likely the desire) to go out and sign a veteran bat to put up numbers a corner IF or OF should be putting up or perhaps re-sign Eric Byrnes, their best bat and a fan favorite. The best trading chip that could be potentially available is Carlos Quentin. Would anyone trade a package including Sean Marshall for Carlos Quentin this offseason?
  18. Bears can't afford to lose: (my list) 1. John Tait - 2. Cedric Benson- 3. Brian Urlacher 4. Charles Tillman 5. Rex Grossman
  19. I think everyone always assumes the 2 NFC wildcards will come out of the East because those teams are so tough. I think if McNabb is healthy, the Eagles run away with that division. The Giants aren't gonna be very good, especially if Strahan stays away. The Cowboys will be better than 6-10, but they may be just a .500 team. They failed down the stretch last year and didn't get any better. I've seen plenty of places predicting the Redskins to have a good year. Why? QB situation shaky. WR's shaky. OL and RBs are good, but teams are gonna dare them to throw to their sub 6' WRs and have success.
  20. The Bears are better than they were a year ago. Three players who started the Superbowl last year are gone. All 3 (Jones, Scott, Tank) have all been replaced by better players (Benson, healthy Tommie Harris, Walker). The starting safeties in the Superbowl are now backups to superior players. TE upgraded, WR upgraded, LB depth added, DB depth added, D-line was thought to be a problem, but that is now an upgrade. I hate the SB loser argument. That's stupid. Seattle made the playoffs last year, and won a game. They lost in OT to the eventual NFC champion. And none of the SB losers has brought back 20 starters.
  21. I should be fine for the 15th also.
  22. Man, and then the Cubs could resign Z next year.... Justin Upton will never get traded from the D'Backs. He will be in Arizona til he leaves as a free agent or retires.
  23. Yeah, gotta take into account Tex's other year of his deal. Z is a FA after this year. A team like LAD or LAA who is in a large market and knows they can pay him the money he wants would probably give up more than Atlanta or Arizona would have. Would have been tough to get Billingsley from LAD though.
  24. He was heaping praise on Hamels. He called Moyer a rag arm lefty. He was talking about Hamels and then said the Cubs face another "rag arm lefty" when Moyer pitches. He's also saying Lou should have played J. Jones last night because Hamels is better against righties. Hamels change was the best I've seen this year. Of course, I haven't seen Santana on his game this year. Haven't seen Hoffman at all this year.
