  1. No. He used to have one of the top 3-5 arms in the league. Now, he's probably slightly above league average throwing the ball.
  2. Yay! We're better than Northwestern......barely. DJ and EJ combined for 55 points on 17-25 from the field and 15-19 from the line, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Rest of team had 20 points on 7-27 shooting, 2-2 from the line, 19 rebounds (doesn't include 5 team rebounds), 12 assists and 1 steal.
  3. Green doesn't really provide much unless Fukudome is gonna move to CF, which he isn't. As a 4th OF, backup 1B....he's not a better option than Ward, who is cheaper and used to a bench role.
  4. People! When you type "at shortstop" as "@SS" it says a bad word. That's the joke.

  6. I had that game on DVR all season. Didn't delete it til the Arizona series debocle was over.
  7. Hopefully this team realizes they can't just show up and expect to win. They haven't played with any emotion in any game this year except vs. UK. They are as talented as any team in the country, but that's not nearly enough. No reason not to play the 4 guard lineup all game at this point. They are getting nothing inside opposite DJ White, offensively or defensively. Mike White used to be able to at least play D and board, he's not even doing that. Stemler used to be able to knock down a shot and play D, he's not doing that. Gordon has pretty much played like crap the last month. He's not shooting the ball well. He's forcing shots. He's making stupid turnovers. Stupid fouls. AJ Ratliff has completely ruined his senior year. Averaged 9.3 last year, and can't make the grades after 3 years in school. Then he gets on the court and looks like he's never played basketball before. Bassett, Crawford, and Ellis average about 30ppg this year, combined for 6 last night. Sampson is learning it's hard to score points against good defensive teams when you don't actually run an offense.
  8. Fukudome essentially had No. 1 on his Cubs jersey the moment he was signed. Yeah, but it could be one of those things like during the draft. Every first round pick gets #1. Maybe it was just a jersey to show he was their #1 FA target. Help me out here, I got a #5 jersey with no name from the Nomar day(s) that I want to be relevant again. Cedeno wears 5, but nobody here knows that.
  9. Why? They'll have an elite offense. They essentially signed a quality #2 starter and have an elite closer. Hamels Meyers Moyer Kendrick Eaton does not impress me that much. And is this lineup really that amazing? Rollins Victorino Utley Howard Burrell Feliz Jenkins/Taguchi C (they don't have one that I've even heard of) It's an above average team, but 2nd in the NL? Ehh... They won 89 last year. They were tied for 2nd best in the NL (if you take out Colorado's win in 163). Myers back in the rotation. Lidge in the pen. They do lose Rowand, but they bring back 4 players that put up at least a .875 OPS last year. They played without Utley for a month. Howard missed some time. Victorino was starting to destroy the ball before he got hurt.
  10. No Fukudome? He's wearing 5 in the video vs. Beckett, that would make my jersey a lot nicer. Hopefully, Brian Roberts pays a premium for that #1 when he gets traded to the Cubs in 2010.
  11. Flowing blonde locks do not lend themselves to grit. In fact, they make old, balding, overweight sportswriters jealous and vindictive. No. White SS do automatically have grit. Along with white point guards (Jason Williams being the exception), white runningbacks and wide receivers.
  12. 1. Mets 2. Phillies 3. Cubs 4. Dodgers 5. Braves 6. Diamondbacks 7. Rockies 8. Reds 9. Brewers -----------------------------Contender line-------------------------------------- 10 Padres 11 Nationals 12 Cardinals 13 Astros 14 Pirates 15 Giants 16 Marlins
  13. Oh man, we're trading Hoops and Bruce Miles? As a board moderator, I can say that we will NOT trade Hoops and Bruce Miles. However, if the right deal came along, we would trade anyone. Our job here is to make this board better. The day that is not our goal, should be the last day we are moderators.
  14. How many did Candace Parker score?
  15. Remember when the Cubs and Sox used to play the exhibition crosstown classic? Michael Jordan's best day in baseball ever.
  16. Greene over Furcal. Greene's better defensively and with the bat.
  17. Um, have you actually compared the 2 of them? Career numbers Furcal - .284 BA/.349 OBP/.407 SLG/94 OPS+ Theriot - .276 BA/.341 OBP/.379 SLG/83 OPS+ Furcal has never had a season with an OPS+ as low as Theriot's 72 in his only full year. And Theriot's career numbers are helped greatly by a huge 53-game season two years ago.\ Plus, Furcal is just three years older than Theriot. I'd happily take Raffy. People want to talk about a marginal upgrades...would you prefer to pay $13,000,000 in 2008 extra to have Furcal's numbers? Comparing both by 2007 and I see identical statistics. Yes, it was a down year for Furcal, but are you willing to gamble $13,000,000 that he's going to show a significant rebound at 30+ years old coming off of injuries? yes, 2007 was an anomaly. 2008 is a contract year. Furcal will have a great season.
  18. I'd be fine getting him in a trade with the Dodgers where the Cubs make out like bandits. I like to think it's possible, given how much of a complete twit Ned Colletti is. However, it won't be happening. Yeah, that's pretty much the only reason for him ever to be a Cub again. The deal would have to make me say, "Man, what a lopsided deal! But we did have to take Pierre back."
  19. A move that would make sense for both teams would be Demarcus Ware in that deal instead of Barber 3. Dallas won't trade Ware, but they have a crapload of LBs, including guys they've drafted in the last 2 years who are backups in Burnett, Carpenter, and Spencer. Greg Ellis came back strong enough to make Ware a minor loss. Of course, I don't think McFadden should have that much value to them, but if he does, I think that deal makes sense.
  20. A drop in production, really? He had 8 less hits in 07 than in 06, but his average went up a point. He had 9 more runs, and 1 more RBI. Oh, and 6 more stolen bases along with an increased SB%. Hmmmm, his SLG did go down, guess we shouldn't be looking for him to bat in the middle of the order anymore should we? He's garbage. I can't believe anyone would seriously advocate for Pierre's return. I would if he came Rafael Furcal, and 1/2 of the salary came with him. Or if he came with James Loney and Chad Billingsley for Derrek Lee and Jason Marquis.
  21. That would be stupid for both teams.
  22. I'd typically agree; but the only chance in hell IU had to maybe stop UCONN from scoring was to foul and hope they miss. God knows they couldn't stop them otherwise. Price would just wait until the 10-second mark and drive and dish over and over. Pretty pathetic really. My biggest coaching issue in that game was not going to Stemler sooner. Robinson didn't come anywhere near him on the outside. He would have had open shots all game. Sampson made the mistake of trying to matchup with UConn defensively most of the game, instead of making them matchup with us.
  23. Meph, that's the most BS argument I've ever seen you post. First off, who said anything about being a better fit for the Cubs? Nobody argued that because Peavy's not available. Secondly, your reasoning really shows nothing except that you can take 2 hours to reach for stuff to help your argument. Did you take into that Wrigley will also increase GB outs for Santana, who pitches on one of the fastest surfaces in the league? And Santana's more of an injury risk? Why, because you say so? 101 pitches per game last 4 years, and 33 starts in each year. Peavy started that many for the first time in 07, and he averages 105 pitches per game. Even if Santana's PC climbs going to the NL, Peavy is the bigger risk, because he's shown he isn't the most durable and doesn't have the greatest mechanics.
  24. Except he didn't block it. He goaltended. After seeing the replays, definitely a goaltend. I can't blame the refs too much for it though, I thought it was a goaltend on live action but I wasn't sure. I thought it was a clean block live. It was funny though, because the WVU bench and the crowd were celebrating right away when they saw the block. Everyone saw it except the officials.
