  1. I really hate the sacrifice. Especially when you have a hot hitter and a pitcher who's not good and just threw 6 of the first 9 pitches out of the zone. But Dero can do anything.
  2. I'd like to not see Ryan Howard til tomorrow.
  3. http://blogs.trb.com/news/local/morningnews/blog/hotdog_big%5B1%5D.jpg Ugh, that thing looks nasty. I was thinking the same thing, and I'm not opposed to hotdogs usually.
  4. FYI, Sean Marshall as a reliever has allowed 6 hits in 29 ABs, for a line of .206/.281/.483/.764 vs. lefties. Almost the same numbers as Cotts vs. LHs (.220/.305/.480/.785). Marshall gave up HRs to Hermida, in the series where everyone gave up a HR to Hermida. And Votto in his 3 HR game, the day Lieber gave up bombs to Johnny Bench and Chris Sabo.
  5. I wanted Ugoh in a bad way! I think Angelo gets too much credit for his past drafts and we have been guilty (me included) of assuming he knows what he is doing, at least when it comes to defensive players. I assumed Bazuin and Okwo had something special and the Bears knew something I didn't.
  6. Good deal. I'll be very interested in his start tomorrow. I like the idea of getting good young prospects some time at a higher level before the season ends.
  7. This should be a fun one tonight. I actually really like this matchup for Dempster. Philly is a team that will be prone to swing on top of the sinker and pound it in the dirt or they will try to get underneath it and pop the ball up. Ryan hasn't allowed a HR in his last 9 starts. On the other end, Hamels is prone to give up the longball. That's been his one achilles heel. This has all the makings of a 2-1 game for either side. Be patient with Hamels. Try to run his pitch count up and get him out early.
  8. According to my window, it's not raining yet. Looks like the game will start on time. No guarantees after that.
  9. It's not pretty here right now. If the rain starts, it won't stop. The worst thing about this is that if the Cubs are 1/2 game in or out of a playoff spot on Sept. 28 (which they won't be), the Cubs will be back in Pittsburgh 9/29. There are no possible makeup days between now and the end of the season, thanks to the great MLB schedule. Cubs off days are 9/4, 9/8 and 9/15. Pirates are off 8/28, 9/1, and 9/22. The best hope is that it's dry when the game starts and then only a light rain starts and continues throughout, before hitting hard at about 4-5pm. I doubt this game is going to happen. The forecast just changed as I typed this. Only 30% chance of showers til about 1pm, but it went from a 10% chance of starting at 11am, to a 30% chance of starting at 10am in 2 minutes.
  10. You could take the high road and stop reading the game threads if they upset you so much. i only read them now to mock them. the best part about games like this (a game, by the way, that i was 100% confident in the cubs winning at all times...even though if they hadn't won, it would not have mattered one iota) is coming here to read a bunch of hysterical weirdos denounce the team (a team with the best offense, pitching, record, etc in the league, by the way) for meaningless individual plays in meaningless games. i can't believe that this board is now almost completely void of decent baseball discussion during the best season of any of our lives. it's pathetic. i mostly just come here now to talk about movies and make fun of derwood (who is actually right for once on this subject, so i can't even make fun of him for that). You don't really add anything by mocking the game thread and the people in it. And what's the point of coming into every game thread and announcing how bad they are? Are you trying to show that you are better than everyone else because you knew the Cubs would win the whole time and didn't react emotionally to the mistakes in the game? I'm sure you've reacted the same way privately as people do publicly. I agree with EJ, take the high road.
  11. Cubs win the worst managed, defended, and pitched game of the season!
  12. Should have never taken Derosa out. He's the hottest hitter on the team and is better than Fontenot offensively and defensively.
  13. Chuck Norris is a little gay for Soto.
  14. Snell was throwing some absolute heat! Whoever said mediocre fastball is kidding themselves. Snell was 95-96 that whole inning after the Theriot walk. I expect that he may tire out in this one, because he looks to be on. Maybe 3rd time thru the order, the Cubs should be able to do some damage. 1 or 2 before then would be great.
  15. He's cheap enough points wise as is. I don't think he should be eligible.
  16. Isn't that really only possible if the player get DFA'd? Probably wouldn't be worth hanging onto in that case.
