  1. 4 of the 5 wins in blowout fashion (ATL scored meaningless runs late). And the loss could have been a win with one big hit.
  2. It's usually a good sign when your 7th inning PH has 3 plate appearances before the game is over.
  3. It's pretty funny that Kensing is facing the (and getting out) the same guys he shoulda faced last inning.
  4. With the off day tomorrow, Lou should manage this game like it's a lead of 3 or less. Marmol and Wood to close it out, go home with a blowout win and a series win.
  5. I wanted Gonzalez as Cubs manager a couple years ago. Looks like he may be trying to win one for the Cubbies today!
  6. There's no reason Kensing shouldn't be in the game. Agreed. STupid move.
  7. Gambling on Ramirez being less than 100% and out of the lineup for a couple days?
  8. Can't waste Edmonds like that. At the very least, bring up Ward and waste him. But Edmonds has been the best Cubs hitter this year, and now he's out of the game w/ no ABs or defense.
  9. We have DeRosa today. Yeah, I woulda brought in Derosa and force them to possibly keep Volstad in.
  10. There's no reason the Cubs shouldn't be winning this game by 4-5 runs. Get men on 1st and 2nd with no outs twice and don't score. Several runners in scoring position have not scored. Marlins get 1 hit and he scores on a groundout.
  11. BA will have him higher than any other ranking, don't know if he can sneak into the top 10 though. He's put together a fantastic second half. Samardzija will be top 10 if he doesn't exhaust his eligibility. Vitters Cashner Ceda those guys are top definitely in the top 10... then we're left with some questionable guys (in no particular order) Jackson Castillo Colvin Rundle Veal Thomas Flaherty Carpenter Schafer Maestri Rhee Suarez Huseby Most of those guys have spent a good deal of this season either ineffective or injured... or simply don't have the track record to support what they've done to this point (Jackson). I could see Guyer slipping into the upper half of that group. I don't see Samardzija exhausting his eligibility. In terms of BA, I think Castillo, Flaherty, Colvin and Veal are locks. Vitters Samardzija Cashner Colvin Ceda Castillo Flaherty Veal Rundle Jackson?
  12. Were Aramis, Lee, and Soto all sitting in that game too? Can't expect to win too many games with those guys on the bench to start the game.
  13. What's their record this week when trailing after 8?
  14. 4 players have an OPS under .833 in the last 21 games! That's nuts. And one of those players (ward) has 13 ABs. Another one is Theriot, who could never OPS that high. It's no wonder the Cubs are 16-5 in their last 21. More impressive is the 21 game streak started 1-2. So, 15-3 over the last 18. Also thought Derosa's line was interesting vs. Florida this year. His only hit a HR and he has walked 6 times against them.
  15. The best thing about this stat is that he got the team lead last night and could easily lose it tonight to any of 2 people.
  16. Illinois beats Missouri and Washington wins at Oregon to open the season with a couple upsets.
  17. Tyler Colvin o'meter OPS= .727. He is really starting to tear the cover off of the ball. 18 for 43 in his last 10 games. For a line of .419/.457/.674/1.131 OPS. Since the AS break, he is hitting awfully close to his numbers from his 2007 numbers. .297/.323/.525. That ISOP of .228 is very encouraging. He hasn't walked a lot lately, with 2 of his 5 post All Star walks coming 3 games ago. But still, Colvin has walked 41 times in 520 plate appearances this year, which is not a bad rate (near .08 per PA). He had just 15 in 507 PAs last year.
  18. Did the news say the last part or is that you? Probably no Gaudin (2 IP yesterday) or Wood (thrown in 3 straight games). I'm hoping Marshall goes 5. Samardzija goes 2. Cotts in the 8th. Marmol closes it out in the 9th. I wonder how much is at stake for Marshall here. We saw Sean Gallagher get a start due to unforeseen circumstances, and Lou stayed with him in the rotation for a while. Lou has always wanted another LHP in the rotation. He has always known Marshall can do the job, it's just been about finding a place for him. The fact that Marquis is being skipped shows me that he doesn't fully trust Jason to handle the job.
  19. That's true. But you can rest Lee -- not because you have a better option, but because you are hoping to get a net performance gain from Lee due to the extra time off. Agreed. Resting him is a big difference from docking his PT.
  20. My guess is when they should. Which would be when they have someone better to take his playing time. And that won't be any time soon. Talking about getting Hoffpauir playing time is a ridiculous joke. Konerko has lost playing time because the Sox have better options. You are kidding yourself if you think Hoffpauir, Ward, or Fontenot (with Edmonds at 1B, Fukudome in CF, Derosa in RF) are even close to the same league as Derrek Lee.
