Three 1000 yard WRs? You're off by three. Also, holding a second quarter concussion (which occurred on a pass he completed) against Mallett as an example of him not performing against tough competition is downright silly. How dare he get his head slammed into the turf while completing a pass...? Also, that's interestingly selective in terms of examples. Alabama and maybe the last drive of the Ohio State game are the only performances on that list that really deserve citation. He had 7 or 8 balls dropped, including 2 sure touchdowns, in the Sugar Bowl. He made two poor passes against Alabama. Everything else is within standard deviation. No credit for his strong performances against aTm, South Carolina, or Mississippi State, all of which finished in the top 25? Man, sorry about saying anything remotely negative about your boy Mallett. I get it. You are a homer. You can talk bad about IU basketball if you want. Call Calbert Cheaney a douche if it makes you feel better. As for the 1000 yard WR thing, I was probably looking at their career stats. But the point remains, he had the best arsenal to throw to in the entire SEC. And it's not selective examples. The 4 games I named were teams that finished in the top 10. The 3 you named were 19th, 22nd, and 15th respectively. Obviously, not as good as the 4 I named. And I wasn't really counting the Auburn game against him underperforming. I was just pointing out that he either didn't play well or didn't play long against the 4 best teams he faced all year. That fact can't be disputed no matter how much you love him.

Malcom Floyd is a pretty good WR too, though he's never had more than 45 catches in a season. As is Steve Breaston. Jacoby Jones is also very intriguing also as he is 26 years old, 6'2", 210lbs, and averaged 5.5 catches and 72 yards in his last 4 games this year.

Yeah, Roy Williams would be a horrible idea. He's not a terrible player, but it would be similar to Muhsin Muhammad in that he has very little upside left to do anything more than the run of the mill WR numbers.

Rather that than bringing back Kreutz. That article alludes to signing a FA guard and veteran WR. So, hopefully that would mean not re-signing Kreutz and drafting a guy early for the other guard spot for cheaper.

Mallett also had a ton of talent to throw to. Three 1000 yards WRs and what I think will be the best TE in this draft. Plus, when the competition got tough....he didn't. 3 INTs vs. Alabama 2 INTs and 56% completion vs. LSU (though they won) Got hurt vs. Auburn. 51% completion vs. Ohio St in bowl game.

1. Gabbert 2. Newton 3. Mallett 4. Locker 5. Stanzi 6. Devlin 7. Kaepernick 8. Ponder 9. Dalton 10. Taylor I think Dalton has the least amount of upside and he's the 2nd smallest (to Tyrod Taylor) of this group with maybe the least amount of arm strength.

Yeah, me either. I don't get the hype he's getting nationally. Guys must have short memories, because while is TD/INT ratio was pretty elite last year, he's one year removed from like a 20-pick season. The key is that he was able to improve on that ratio. Shows that he is coachable. I like Stanzi probably more than most people. He has good size. Can make every throw (except maybe the deep out from opposite hash, but a lot of NFL QBs can't make that throw either). Love his intangibles (leadership).

Yeah there's really only 2-3 guys I pay attention to when it comes to evaluating tape on players. Kiper and McShay are generally pretty good and assumed, but I also keep up with Mike Mayock (NFL Network) and Wes Bunting/Matt Bowen at the National Football Post. Those three (Mayock, Bowen, Bunting) have all been pretty consistent on who was most impressive through practices and the game. Yeah, I mostly agree with those 3 also. Having watched a lot of the practices and all of the game. My amateur eye hasn't disagreed with much other than I don't know why anyone likes Nate Solder.

Crean was shitty as usual with the Xs and Os. Up 4 with under 2 minutes to go, and he comes out in a zone defense. Lucas nails a 3 and cuts the lead to 1. From there, Michigan St could do whatever they wanted offensively as it was never again a 2 possession game. You gotta play man in that situation and force them to take a contested shot or run some clock if they are going to get a layup. Then you score to go back up 4 or you force them to foul earlier.

There's a very good chance the Bears could draft him in the 2nd, as no other team in their right mind would.

The thing to remember about DT though is that you have Harris due a 2.5Mil roster bonus, Harrison was inactive most of the season because the team knows he's not good enough, and Adams is a free agent. That leaves Matt Toeina- undrafted and Henry Melton- 4th round coverted LB, RB, DE. The Bears need some serious talent at DT even if they bring back Adams and one of Harris/Harrison.

Jahri Evans got 7 years, 56Mil last year. So, I'd guess Mankins gets a little above that and becomes the new highest paid guard in the league.

Mark Sanchez, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, Ken Dorsey, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye, Trent Dilfer. Those have been Braylon Edwards' QBs in the NFL. Only twice has he been on an offense that passed for more than 3000 yards. One of those was his near 1300 yard season. The other was this year and he had 904 yards with a very up and down QB.

Other than Torry Holt, I don't think there has ever been a WR that has been a better fit for the Mike Martz offense than Santonio Holmes. The crossing routes, the RAC potential, the precision route running. Holmes is the perfect fit. But I think he's a pipe dream and a longshot due to the money he will command and his off-field history.

Rice has still only had 1 good year. His 1st 2 years were busts. His career year came with Favre playing like Jesus. You can say he was hurt last year and his QB play was terrible which led to his down year, but when he came back he still only averaged 3 catches for 47 yards per game. Guys like Calvin Johnson and Fitzgerald didn't have per game numbers that low and had QB carosels on their teams. I'd be hesistant to give him anything more than a short, incentive based deal.

Yeah, the hit was a clear penalty. Also clearly was not the intent as I believe it would have led to 3rd and long without it.

Bailey is old. Cromartie will probably get paid close to the amount Asomugha will get. Not worth it. Plus, I think putting him in a Cover 2 takes away Cromartie's ability (though, the Bears could always call less cover 2). Based on the strengths of the draft and free agency this year, I'd look to shore up the middle of the OL, get a stud DT, and try to find a #1 WR (or at least a 2 to go with a team of 3s and 4s) this offseason. Then in the 2012 draft, focus on getting a shutdown CB and franchise LT. Both should be relatively deep positions next year. Obviously, if you can take care of all the needs, you do it...but it's not very likely. I think you can get away 1 more year without a CB if necessary, and you get another pass rusher up front. I think the Bears can go just as far next year with the same combo of CBs, and hope they get a resurgent year out of Bowman or a good sophomore year out of Josh Moore like they got out of recent "redshirts" like DJ Moore, Bennett, and Melton.

I think all 5 of those guys after Austin would be better picks than Austin. I just don't think he's worth the risk. Greg Little goes the pick before the Bears in the 4th round. I wouldn't hesitate to take him at the end of the 3rd. I also like Cecil Shorts and Vincent Brown who also are mocked to go in the 4th, though Shorts is more of a project as a route runner.
