  1. ouch. Wonder what Tice thinks about that. Probably thinks he signed a 2-year deal and he should deal with it.
  2. cam newton...reggie bush...money...cam newton...reggie bush...money. what is it that ties these things together in my mind? Has Newton banged Kim Kardashian yet? Who hasn't?
  3. Very athletic LB. Can fit at any LB position in any scheme from 3-4 rush OLB to 4-3 SLB. Good tackler, not a huge knockout hitter, but will wrap up. Good speed and size. Very disciplined in his assignments. May lack a little instinct to diagnose plays as quick as elite LBs, but can make up for some of it with his speed, and the fact that a slow reaction means he's not out of position. I think he fits best in a 3-4 scheme. Can put him inside on 1st and 2nd down and let him at the QB on 3rd down.
  4. It's completely different than the Cards being able to trade Pujols after this season. Pujols has a contract, that expires. We aren't dealing with contracts here. Tim could have kept both Pujols and Felix if he wanted to, but decided to keep multiple players instead of those 2 and got a draft pick for them. I don't see why this is an issue. It allows for more parity in the league. Teams that had poor seasons usually did not have top players. And if they can get 2 top players over 1 in the draft, then it makes that team better also. And honestly, I don't give a [expletive] who's idea it is. I don't have anything against you or have anything for Tim.
  5. +1 Looking forward to seeing Garza in a Cubs uni, who's lost weight, who's sporting horrible facial hair, etc. Seeing Kerry Wood in a Cubs uniform again will be fun. I never got fully attached to the idea of him coming back to the Cubs, but I can't look at him without thinking 20K game.
  6. Young never was all that great at 2B to begin with.
  7. Liuget, Leshoure, and ?? Martez Wilson.
  8. I understand being disappointed with specific plays. But I don't know how anyone can be disappointed with the season a 2nd year, 5th round draft pick, out of Abilene Christian who had 51 catches, for 960 yards, 5 TDs, and a league's 5th best 18.8 yards per reception. Just like Hester before him, Knox is a victim of being thrust into the wrong situation as the #1 WR. Get a legit WR and watch him get better. Yeah, that's my feeling on Knox as well. Much better than I would have thought, just put in a role he's clearly not ready for now. To me, a WR is the number 1 priority through FA. He's probably never going to be a great route runner, or fight for underthrown passes, or bump his way through press coverage effectively. I think he's doing what he's going to do, right now. Probably true. But with another WR, you can minimize the need to thrust him into routes and situations he's not comfortable with. On 3rd and 3, you can't wait for Knox to get open down the field, because Cutler would get hit in the mouth before that ever developed. But if you get a WR that can go in and catch those slant passes on the outside, then that opens up Knox to be more like the other small, big play WRs in the game like DeSean Jackson and Mike Wallace, who don't really catch a lot of slants, outs, or curls, but have a lot of success.

  10. I don't understand the LT discussion in regards to Webb. He clearly didn't have the footspeed to handle RT, and now we want him over on the other side against most of the premier DE's in the league? I think he'd be better suited at either of the guard spots if he has any shot of being an NFL starter at all. Granted, he won't be the speediest guy to pull to the right or left on running plays, and he won't exactly create the best of holes up the middle, but his inability to keep his defender from getting around him is going to kill Cutler, especially if he's playing Cutler's blind side. I don't like that idea at all. Strangely enough, he may be better suited for LT with the Bears because the schedule dictates the RT has the tougher matchups vs. speed. Jared Allen isn't as speedy as Edwards in Minnesota. Same thing in Detroit w/ KVB at RDE and speed rusher, Cliff Avril at LDE. Matthews is over the RT in GB. That's 6 games where the RT will get the better speed rusher.
  11. I'd like to see Richmond McGee and undrafted free agent, Anthony Santella battle it out.
  12. As a Bears fan, I must say, Aaron Rodgers is awesome. I like him a lot. The championship belt celebration is silly, but I don't mind it at all. Of course, I would have liked Bin Laden in comparison if he followed Favre as GBs QB.
  13. This is going to be a 2-year deal for the Bears. For an 11-5 team that was 7 points away from a Superbowl this year, they have a ton of flaws. Also, have a ton of free agents. While Webb, Omiyale, and Williams fighting for 2 tackle spots is not ideal, you can only do so much in 1 offseason with limited resources. If I'm the Bears, I'd focus on the interior OL with two 30-somethings and a T playing out of position. If you can improve 2 of those positions drastically, and Webb greatly improves, then you have a solid OL. I'd focus the draft and free agency on C, LG, WR, and DT....while also getting some depth and youth at LB, CB, RB, and Safety. And hopefully, this time in 2012, the Bears are looking at a team just needing a stud at OT and a CB.
  14. I would strongly consider doing that trade, but we'd have the worst up the middle defense in MLB. With Castro still growing defensively, Young at 2B, and Fuku/Colvin in CF. Hope that's a lot of cash.
  15. The stuff I read has said the Bears are going to give Webb at shot at LT. And it looks like Omiyale (who is a solid run blocker) and Williams will compete at RT. Have also read that having to play GBs pass rush at least 2 times per year, they don't want a couple rookie OL in there. I think they bring in at least 1 FA on the OL, probably in the LG spot. My own guess says they also are about 50/50 on whether they bring back Kreutz or move Garza over to C. I don't think Kreutz and Garza are both back.
  16. drop williams. draft Derek Sherrod. also, that Illinois DT looks like he's going to go upper/mid rd 1 http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/feed/2011-01/2011-nfl-draft/story/draft-dish-illinois-corey-liuget-flying-up-boards Damnit. I've been making mocks w/ Liuget to the Bears for months now. He's my favorite prospect in the draft. I think the Bears trade down anyway. Hopefully they can still get 2 of a good OL, DT, WR, or CB in the 1st 2 rounds.
  17. I'd like Heimerdinger as the Bears OC. Maybe he's out of a job all year and Martz leaves afer 2011.
  18. I have an irrational love for Ponder, but I think that's a little much. I think he's an injury risk. And I think he has the tendency to get flustered. I don't think he is a guy you can put on a team with no talent and expect him to win games (like Sam Bradford, Matt Ryan). But if you put him on a team with a solid OL, a couple WRs, and a running game, I think he can be a decent QB. Of the teams that need QBs, I can see him succeeding for Minnesota, maybe Jacksonville, and possibly Miami.
  19. Anyone can replace 1 or 2 players a year. The key is not getting to the point where you wake up one day and you have gaping holes. The Steelers are great at not ever having to fill multiple holes in the same offseason. The Patriots actually have had multiple holes, but have thousands of draft picks to fill them. But the Bears went from the SB to needing to replace their entire OL. Both starting WRs became FAs. One RB was traded, and the high draft pick RB had multiple arrests and was cut. Hillenmeyer, Vasher, and Mike Brown either got hurt, underperformed, or both. Grossman never turned the corner and regressed. It happens. It's happening to the Colts right now, and they are a very well run franchise. Their entire OL needs to be replaced within the next 2 years. Bob Sanders is a non-factor. Freeney and Mathis are aging and they got nothing at DT. Their starting SB CBs are gone. LB continues to be a revolving door there.
  20. Still regardless of what they do in free agency, you are looking at needing at least 2 draft picks on OL. At least 1 DT, at least 1 safety (if Manning is gone), possibly a WR (if no FA), need LB depth and as many as 3 if Pisa, Roach, and Iwuh all leave. RB is way down the list. I understand anyone can put up Taylor's numbers. But the Bears don't have anyone, they have Chester Taylor. To me, it doesn't make sense to cut Chester, take a cap hit (however minimal), and then use more resources to fill his spot when there are so many other needs.
  21. it's more than just Rodgers, they've got stars all over the field on both sides of the ball. and Woodson aside, they're all really young. its mostly Rodgers, though. free agency and big contracts else where will eventually deplete the team of talent. That reality puts a lot of pressure on their drafting abilities. And despite the unusual number of injuries this year, they aren't guaranteed any more health next year. What happens if they remain completely healthy next year except for Rodgers who blows out a knee in the 3rd game? Is Matt Flynn capable of carrying them through the playoffs? They lose 2 of the 3 playoff games they had with out Rodgers. the league turns over so quickly anymore, I'm not buying the dynasty just yet. Exactly. It's more than just Rodgers, but nothing's happening without him. They are going to have to lock up Rodgers, Jennings, Clay, Tramon, Raji and possibly Collins, Hawk, and Bulaga. The first 5 are all worthy of being top 5 paid at their positions within 2-3 years. The latter 3 would be tough to replace, especially when you consider every other position that will need to be replaced/upgraded by then. The 2006 Colts had Peyton Manning, a 23-yo Addai, 28 yo Wayne, 27 yo Clark, 3 of their 5 OL under 27, and the only starter over 27 on defense was 28-yo Raheem Brock. Yet, they now have to replace the entire OL within the next couple years, need to develop another WR and RB and have needs on all 3 levels of the defense. Things change fast in the NFL (not that the Colts are bad).
  22. My only issue with this is now you have to add RB to the list of needs. Along with Manning testing the waters, Adams not re-signed yet, and 4 of 6 LBs not under contract....the Bears have too many needs with only 6 draft picks. I really don't want to trade down just for the sake of trading down. I guess they can go with Khalil Bell (RFA), Unga (supplemental pick on IR), and possibly re-sign Wolfe (UFA) to back up Forte, but they obviously weren't willing to do that this year. adding a RB to replace Taylors 2.7 yrds a carry isn't a huge need. that could be done with a undrafted FA signing for crying out loud. and save a kitty to boot. I understand that I myself could probably get 2.7 ypc. But that doesn't mean the Bears would trust me to do that. I don't think some undrafted guy is going to spark the confidence in the staff to be the #2 RB. And if not, your other choices are a RB that was inactive all of 2010 and showed enough in 2009 to make them think they needed to get Chester Taylor, an undersized RB who may actually not be able to get 2.7 ypc, and a rookie who spent all of 2010 on IR. I'm fine with Bell and an undrafted rookie RB. But I don't know that the Bears would be, and I'd rather keep Chester than use a precious draft pick to replace him.
  23. I'm fine with no big names in free agency. While Logan Mankins, Santonio Holmes, and Nmamdi Asomugha would be amazing, I think the Bears can get 4-5 good, cheap years out of guys like Chris Chester, Davin Joseph, or James Jones. As opposed to paying huge money to elite players who are going to have to be cut in 2-3 years anyway because you can't afford them.
  24. Not thrilled with the move, but he's probably no more or less of a gamble than a guy like Perry Fewell. And he's better than a failed coach like Mularkey. Don't hate it, don't love it. We'll likely see little to no staff/personnel turnover because of the move. Not a move that's going to change the Titans as a franchise. There will be no philosophy or personnel overhauls (other than QB). Seems like the best case scenario is exactly what they've done the last 5-10 years.
