  1. Should be very little dropoff there.
  2. I just said I don't expect a 4th top 50 guys in a trade, but I see no reason why the Cubs couldn't get 1, maybe even 2-3 of the top 100 in trades for Dempster and Garza. Plus, guys like Jackson, Szczur, and Vitters have to be in the 100-150 range. And depending how the season ends for them guys like Candelario, Vogelbach, Lake, and one of the draftee pitchers could end up pretty close to the top 150, if not in.
  3. Why do you say that? The top 10 aren't going anywhere. Only players I can see in the top 20 going are Olt and Castellanos, and I'd think both would take some big time convincing from Theo and co. After that, the only guys I see that MIGHT be made available AND their team is looking for pitching are Bogearts, maybe one of the Jays' OFs, and maybe Zach Lee from the Dodgers. So, that's 5 guys in the top 50 that I think are realistic. Maybe the Cubs pull off a trade for one of them, and maybe even Shelby Miller comes into play in a divisional trade, but I'd rate all of these players as long shots right now.
  4. That means Baez is 26, Almora is 38 and Soler is 44. I'll take that. If the Cubs get one more for Garza (doesn't appear very likely), that would be outstanding.
  5. I don't see how that's even possible. The White Sox barely have anything even resembling a farm system. That also implies that they actually gave up bullets to get Youkilis.
  6. Thanks. I originally was going to say double digits, but I thought that would be a bit much.
  7. Baez hit by a pitch in his final AB. Can't find any stats, but I'd guess he's been hit 1/2 dozen time.
  8. That isn't too bad. Essentially 2 years guaranteed. Can you take the hit on the guaranteed dollars in the first two years? Or do you have to spread it over the contract? That's what I was trying to argue several weeks ago. Even if it's 20Mil guaranteed, that's basically 2.5 years guaranteed. He was guaranteed this year at the franchise tag anyway, so you're committing 1.5 extra years to him. You can keep him around thru 2014, and he'll only be 28 then.....that seems to be about the magic number for RBs to take a huge nosedive. His touches have been minimized some the last 2 years, after a ton his first 2 years and in college. His touches should continue to stay within reason now that Cutler has some actual players other than him to throw the ball to. I'm very happy with this deal. I expect 5 years. I expected closer to 40Mil.
  9. Yeah, but if one of those top 10 guys is Jacob Turner or Mike Olt or Carlos Martinez, and you thrown in another guy in those top 10s along with another projectable player in the lower minors...that's a pretty good package for 1 1/2 years of Garza. Gio was still under control for 3 more years, I believe.
  10. The Nats gave up 3 top 10 prospects, and also Tommy Milone who slotted right in the A's rotation and is having a decent year. The price may be a little less than that now, but I'd still expect 2 top 10s, and 1 in the 10-20 range, unless a team gives up an absolute stud (i.e. top 50 in all of baseball) and are loaded to the point their 10-15 guys are still really good....then I'd still want 2 of them.
  11. LOL. That's funny. Having met his dad, I knew he was a named after his dad, but didn't realize his grandfather also had the same name. Wasn't his grandfather the one who played in the NFL? Yes, didn't realize his name was "Rex" though.
  12. LOL. That's funny. Having met his dad, I knew he was a named after his dad, but didn't realize his grandfather also had the same name.
  13. I am intrigued by the possility of getting Olt and 2 mid-level arms for Garza and 2 arms for Dempster. A big time bat and 4 capable arms would be a nice haul. It would be a lot easier to sign a couple SP 2han get a 3B this offseason. Elite arms are nice to have but are a lot more volatile than elite bats
  14. Not to mention, the fact that nobody is going to be pitching around a rookie anyway.
  15. Problem is, it's unfair to demote Shoulders who still has an .804 OPS despite a low average. Any chance of leapfrogging Vogelsbach to Peoria? Yeah - I think it makes sense to send Vogelbach to Peoria, Hoilman to Daytona, Ridling to Tennessee and Bour to Iowa. Yeah, Iowa doesn't even have a real 1B on the roster anymore. They've been playing Vitters or one of their 3 catchers there since Rizzo was promoted. All those players could use a promotion to challenge them a little more.
  16. How's Teague's jumpshot? Probably going to see another season like 09-10, after Ben Gordon left and before Deng refused to take a step back and shoot behind the 3-pt line. Bulls still have enough 15-18 foot jumpshooters, but anything beyond that is going to be tough, especially without DRose there to draw the defense into the lane.
  17. There are 3 qualified 3B that have an OPS above .870. Vitters has a career minor league line of .282/.326/.452/.777. Even as good as he's been this year, he still barely has an ISOP of .200. I don't expect it to get much higher than that in the majors. Best case, IMO would be .290/.340/.500 in his prime.
  18. Sandoval's pretty good. He's a .307 career hitter and doesn't have an .870 OPS for his career, though he has been (much) better than that in 2 of his 4 full season and is almost there this year. I don't know about Vitters consistently being able to hit .290 and he doesn't quite have Sandoval's power. If Vitters hits .290, I'd imagine his OPS would be somewhere about .830-.840 at best....which is acceptable.
  19. Anything short of a Final Four is a failure IMO. Likely losing Zeller and maybe Oladipo after the season, and obviously losing Watford and Hulls. You'll see a step back in 2013. Especially considering that, other than Yogi, I don't think the freshmen will get a ton of minutes this year. This is a year IU can actually be 'better' than Kentucky with big time talent and actual veteran players. I don't know. Gotta think Perea at least gets Pritchard's former minutes, not to mention he's probably going to get some of Elston's minutes when he continues to display his natural stupidity. Plus, I think that Hollowell is too good to keep on the bench all year. He may not get 20 minutes per, but I don't see why he wouldn't play in every game. Sucks for him that he does have a team with Oladipo, Sheehey, Etherington and Watford who all play a similar position, but I think there's some time for him in there somewhere.
  20. Scottie is the [expletive]! "We'd beat this team by 25."
  21. I don't see why it matters whether he is a top 100 prospect or not. The bottom line is he now looks like a player that can help the major league Cubs, something I couldn't have said at this time last year.
  22. Vitters has seen 17 pitches tonight. Jackson has seen 16, and just had a 1st pitch single.
  23. Brett Jackson with a RBI single. Welington Castillo (a guy that needs to start hitting) followed with a 3-run bomb.
