  1. Nah, you guys probably get this one at home. Hopefully, Sudfeld and Howard can go. I think it'll be a 1-score game either way, and this is typically the point when IU comes crashing down from beating up on a mediocre non-conference schedule.
  2. The friendly announcer. damnit i glossed over this Ha. Damn me too. I'm looking like, "what did I miss?"
  3. Shout out to Fangio and his boys on defense. Very good game today. 273 yards of total offense, against a team that came in averaging over 100 more in total offense and ranked in the top 7 in the NFL thru the first 3 weeks. The Bears are still dead last in points allowed, but they somehow are 7th in total defense and 6th in passing yards. Pernell McPhee is the real deal.
  4. Fox is such a [expletive]. Go for TD on 4th and 1. Call timeout after 1st down sack at the 5.
  5. Wow, Cubs are 2 walks behind the Blue Jays for most walks as a team (batters) for the season. Haven't led the ML in walks since 1929. From Len Casper on Twitter.
  6. what the hell does that even mean I think he's trying to say the Cubs aren't playing well enough to beat good teams. It still isn't right, but it does make sense I guess.
  7. Part of me really wants Austin Jackson in LF for this game. I wouldn't even be upset if LaStella is at 3B, with Bryant in LF. But I think you go with the lineup that got you here, for the most part. Coghlan in LF/RF with Schwarber in the other, Castro at 2B, Bryant at 3B. Jackson, LaStella, and Baez will certainly get in the game at some point.
  8. Dude's excited to be 30 games under .500
  9. That's twice for Bryzzo with RISP and less than 2 outs, with a chance for 100 RBIs.
  10. Russell seems to be swinging a pretty good bat lately. Modest 10 for his last 24, 3 XBH, that was only his 4th K over this span.
  11. Slow clap. Starting RB and QB out and we have 10 yards to beat the reigning champion, #1 team in the nation. Soon moral victories will be no longer acceptable.
  12. Hence, why I was playing the "2 NLDS, including game 5 starts" angle. Right and people have brought that up here. I just don't think you mess around with a 1 game playoff. You start your best pitcher and figure out the rest when you win. Even if Liriano has the Cubs number much of the time, it's just not worth the risk to start an inferior pitcher, especially because you burned the better pitcher to ensure home field for a 1 game playoff. I also said that.
  13. Hence, why I was playing the "2 NLDS, including game 5 starts" angle.
  14. Here's an interesting scenario. There's a decent chance Reds/Pirates gets rained out today due to Joaquin. If the Cubs win today and tomorrow, the game is rained out today and the Reds win tomorrow. I assume the Pirates/Reds would have to play on Monday. Do the Pirates possibly go Cole on regular rest Monday? Obviously, they should feel pretty good about beating the Reds with Happ, and they may not value a home game THAT much. But they could value the fact that Cole going Monday would put him in line to pitch Game 2 in the NLDS, which also keeps him there for a potential Game 5, if they make it that far. Would also put Liriano against the Cubs in the WC game, which I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing for them. I don't think you take your best pitcher away from a 1-game elimination in any scenario, but it would certainly be interesting to have the Pirates playing on Monday.
  15. That was "LOOK AT THIS [expletive]! THAT'S A [expletive] STRIKE!"
  16. It would be really fucked up for the Cubs to lose an Arrieta pitched game for the first time since July, in a 1-game elimination format. I'd be pretty sick to my stomach. I feel pretty good if the offense can push around 3 runs.
  17. Battle of 2nd year players. Charles Leno vs. Khalil Mack. Yeah, it'll probably be as bad as that looks on paper.
  18. Same could be said for baseball too. It's not about the talent up there, it's that you don't have to worry about another team stealing the guy you want. no, it's about talent that's my point, though; i'm no NFL scout, but i don't see much if any difference between Ronnie Stanley (top-5) & Jack Conklin (20-25) / Nkemdiche (top-3) & DeForest Buckner (top-15) / Treadwell & Ramsey... There's a big difference in talent from top 5 to 15-20 in every draft ever. Ronnie Stanley has top 5 OT in football potential, much higher upside than Conklin. Nkemdiche has as much talent as any interior DL has had since Suh. Buckner (who I like a ton) is really good too, but not in that same class.
  19. Oh look. Marc Trestman's offense is bad.
  20. I don't understand this. I don't know if you're saying there's no top shelf talent or if they won't be bad enough to pick one of the top guys. I don't think either are true. Sure, if you want to call guys like Luck, Peyton, Eli, Rivers top shelf talent...there's none of those guys, but there's hardly ever any of those guys. Bears could be waiting forever if that's what they're looking for. But Goff or Cook could be fine NFL QBs. Cook reminds me of a Matt Ryan type, maybe poor man's version but definitely a guy that can start early and be slightly more than a game manager in the NFL at worst. Goff reminds me of a Derek Carr type. Lot of talent, hard to get a feel on with his college offense, but definitely worth a shot at seeing if he can be someone to build around. I also don't know that the Bears take defense 1st. I would definitely lean toward getting an elite OT with the 1st round pick (if you don't love the QBs). But a guy like Jalen Ramsey is really intriguing on D. Playing CB this year, which I don't love him there but he's played S in the past and he's a physical prototype DB. Feel like you can play him anywhere in the back there and build around him.
  21. I don't like cutting him when you have guys named Chris Prosinki and Harold Jones-Quartey as your backup safeties now, but Vereen has shown since the last 6 weeks last year til Sunday that he's kinda bad at everything. Looked like he could cover in his first game last year, but has since proven to be a liability there. He has had bad showings in coverage, run support, tackling, and special teams when he's been on the field. But he was one of several players (along with guys like Bostic) who only made the team in the first place because they were young and there were limited resources to bring in better options.
  22. I think the Bears could look to trade 1 of Willie Young or Lamarr Houston. I've heard some names rumored, but I don't think any of Bennett, Jeffery, or Slauson go anywhere. Word is the team will franchise Jeffery if they can't re-sign him. And they are being ultra safe with him as if they want him around. But I think one guy that may go, who I have not heard rumored, is Jeremiah Ratliff. The Bears DL has played 3 games without him and been pretty decent. Sutton and Jenkins have played really well. Goldman and Ferguson have been OK. That Unrein dude was really good on Sunday. And he's a FA after the year. But yeah, I think Forte probably has to go. He isn't in the team's long-term plans, and they can't really find out if Langford can be the guy next year with Forte still taking 90% of the snaps.
  23. lol, that is quite the backhanded compliment It's not meant to call him stupid. Just that he may not get overwhelmed by the hugeness of the situation.
