  1. Castro has always seemed like a guy that would do well in the playoffs. I mean my logic is pretty meatbally, but the whole "not smart enough to overthink" in the playoffs seems to apply. Plus, he's one of the few guys in the lineup who doesn't strike out ton, so I think he'd be a guy that could come up with big hits simply based on that fact.
  2. Man, the Cubs have quite dilemma this offseason. Between good Castro, Baez, Coghlan and Soler and 2 positions to play them.
  3. Too much. Yeah, he signed for 1 year/7.7Mil this year. Be nice Soler insurance.
  4. How much we gotta pay Jackson to be our Denorfia next year?
  5. [expletive] Matt Carpenter. If the Cubs lose a game because of Matt Carpenter, I will be murder someone.
  6. Hendricks has been pretty good for 5 innings but struggles when he reaches 75 pitches / 6th innings. Hammel has had a tendency to suck in the first inning, but when he's good, he tends stay good longer. I don't know if these stats can really tell you anything about future performance, but I would think you'd want to go with Hendricks and have a quick hook for somebody like Wood coming in by the end of 5 or beginning of 6 at the latest. Haren is the only of the 3 that has had any success against the Cards this year. I'd probably lean him or Hendricks because of recent starts, and the fact Hammel has the 1st inning issues. But I wouldn't expect Haren to give me more than 3. Hendricks, I'd hope for 5 but obviously be willing to pull any of these guys very early.
  7. Doesn't matter. We were doomed when we stopped being able to draft and develop talent top to bottom. The pending doom was there. They held onto Angelo too long while he wasted a few more drafts and then hired a guy who couldn't reverse the trend. Well that doom began when Lovie started having more input into the drafting/personnel decisions, which began after the Super Bowl loss. i think Lovie always had input. Angelo drafted speed, acquired speed, did whatever he could to give Lovie his coveted speed. Any coach does. But after the Superbowl, Lovie got more power. The Bears were victims of their own success. They turned mid round picks and castoffs into key players on a Superbowl team. And then they thought that was all they needed to do, and either missed out on or blatantly traded away early picks (granted a couple were for Cutler) because they thought the scheme was good enough to just find players that fit instead of finding the most talented players.
  8. He's been there before, dude. It's just like fishing. You don't want to go into a big bass tournament with a new rod.
  9. Battle of undefeateds in Bloomington! IU actually stuck with Ohio St. last year. Down 28-20 with 4 minutes to go until OSU added 2 more late scores. Tevin Coleman was very impressive in the game last year with 228 yards on the ground. IU was playing their 3rd string QB at that point last year too. With Sudfeld healthy and with Jordan Howard picking up where Coleman left off as the 2nd leading rusher in the nation, and with Cardale and Barrett coming off a rough game.....maybe IU can do the unthinkable in front of a soon-to-be sold-out crowd.

  11. I'm debating hanging out outside of the stadium for the game. But I really want to watch it on TV. There's actually a stadium tour of PNC that day that I may go to.
  12. It's always weird to see how good the Cubs have actually been in the last 30 years. Obviously, not much to show for it, and not enough success, but the Cubs have not been as big of a disaster as the lovable loser tag would lead you to believe.
  13. concur I wouldn't trade him for "whatever they can get". I'm thinking something like a 4th and 6th would be his ceiling in a trade. Maybe you could get a 3rd if that team re-signs him like right away. I also wonder what the next contract Forte gets will be. He's a good RB, but I don't think he's elite. He won't get DeMarco Murray money (5/$40M), but should get much more than Gore (3/$12M). If the Bears don't go crazy with a big FA signing, he could get the Bears a 3rd or 4th round comp pick. Of course, if they lose Jeffery, they could get a slew of picks, but those picks wouldn't be until 2017. I'd probably take the picks now, if they could get them.
  14. Grienke and Kershaw have arguably been better over the course of the entire season. Can't go wrong with any of the 3 winning. I'd probably go Kershaw right now. I think Jake gets it honestly. Between the 2 Dodgers splitting votes, Kershaw having won it 3 of the last 4 years already, the fact that those 2 have each other, and honestly because Arrieta is doing it for a Cubs teams many thought weren't ready yet gives him the edge in the media's eyes.
  15. None of us are good enough to post in an Arrieta thread.
  16. nah, let him go get #21. once he's around 100 pitches you can take him out.[/quote Went thru the heart of the order just now. He's definitely earned 21. Strop and Rondon are rested.
  17. Whut. I really want a Game 163 between the Cardinals and Pirates So you're really going to be that "I'm rooting for the Cubs to lose" guy?[/quote Been that guy for 6 months.
  18. This would be pissing me off if this game mattered.
  19. I know I emphatically stated that I didn't care that the Pirates were getting a look at Jake, but I'm torn now if I want him to allow a hit so he can be done after 90 pitches or if I want history for the 2nd time in a month.
