  1. I'm really only in favor of trading Samardzija if it brings back Bradley or a similarly high end prospect. It's hard to say so without really knowing what Samardzija's demands are in an extension, but assuming they aren't outrageous, I'd much rather extend him otherwise. Yeah, I was operating under the assumption that the Cubs could trade Shark and get a pretty high end prospect.
  2. Indulging in the fantasy briefly: Samardzija/Tanaka/Jackson/Wood/Arrieta Strop/Wright/whomever That's a really not-upsetting pitching staff If Tanaka is as good as Garza (hopefully better) and Arrieta can manage what Feldman did, it's as good as last year's pre-firesale rotation. The bullpen with all the interesting power arms should be much better. I'm OK with this. I'd still trade Samardzija. That staff still isn't good enough in 2014 to make any legitimate noise. But a couple strong prospects and you could have a pretty good 2015 team and beyond with a TOR guy already in house, with maybe 2-3 more (Shark trade, Edwards, draft pick) developing into a TOR guy.
  3. You're scared he'll be the best reliever on the team? Well, it's not like he'll blow a huge game in the playoff hunt. But Lee Smith scared me. Hawkins scared me. Chuck McElroy didn't, but he looked like my step-dad so it was funny.
  4. Have you seen the defense he'll be facing? Bears are actually 14th in passing yards allowed and 6th in interceptions. They have an average pass defense that will force the occasional turnover. They aren't really the problem. The pass defense sucks, but teams don't need to throw much because they can run so easily and the Bears aren't scoring points. Yeah, numbers can say whatever they want, but this is a team that couldn't stop RGIII (when he was really struggling bad) or Matt Cassel from marching down the field for very long game winning/tying drives. Drew Brees barely had a ball hit the ground against them.
  5. I knew who Wesley Wright was. Of course i make a point of knowing all 4 African American MLB pitchers. Black Cubs relievers on the Cubs scare me. Latroy Hawkins factor.
  6. Have you seen the defense he'll be facing?
  7. Mettenberger did tear his ACL. If he could be had in the 3rd, he'd be a steal. I'd probably take him in the 2nd if I had to. And yes, Bortles is a 1st rounder if he comes out. Reminds me of Tebow with an actual ability to throw well.
  8. Doesn't really matter who would sign him. Because somebody will sign him. And pay him pretty close to what he is looking for. And those won't be close to the only teams looking at him. Hell, Cutler's old team jettisoned him for Matt Cassel. Every team with a young QB that's not named Luck or Newton would probably think long and hard about Cutler over their guy. The lack of market isn't going to be any kind of bargaining chip for the FO. Biggest issue is who the Bears would have at QB.
  9. Um. It doesn't read that way even a little to me. Seems to me they wanna get Jay signed to a reasonable extension. Reasonable to Emery and Jay are probably completely different things. One point of view, Jay missed over 1/4 of the season for the 2nd time in 3 years, still has only 1 playoff win, and there wasn't significant dropoff in production when he went out this time. Other point of view, Jay was leading the #2 scoring offense in the NFL, averaging a TD more than it is with McCown and he still runs circles around what the Bears have ever had throwing the ball and whats likely to be available in the near future. I could see the team hoping for 12-15M/year and Cutler going more for the 16-18M/year range. High end of team and low end of Cutler are close, but opposite ends of the spectrum is completely different.
  10. Loaded WR draft, but I don't think there will be a non-loaded WR draft in the near future. Robinson should come out because he's not going to get any higher stock.
  11. [expletive] Crean. Your only offense is offensive rebounds and u go small as the game is starting to get away from you?
  12. IU showing well at Cuse, after a 0-10 how to start. Missed some bunnies. A couple blown alley oops. Devin Davis has been really good on the offensive glass and has missed or rushed layups. Frankly, looked a lot like the UConn first half. Syracuse is just too long. And have more of a consistent offense at home to beat. Hopefully we keep it close.
  13. Good idea for Mariotta. Sucks about Grasu. Liked him in the 3rd round area.
  14. I feel like the OL play has really regressed with McCown in there, but I feel like he's gotten away from pressure maybe even better than Cutler could. Of course, last time we saw Cutler he wasn't healthy enough to get away from anything.
  15. I didn't like Atlanta coming into the season. Predicted a losing record this year. Didn't think it would be this bad though.
  16. Also Bears averaging 28.6 in games Cutler has started and finished. 22.6 when McCown starts. Full TD difference.
  17. Bears are 3-0 in primetime, 3-6 in noon starts.
  18. Getting way ahead of myself and probably wasting my time....... But if the Bears can get into the playoffs somehow, things don't look too bad. If they get in, that means the Bears would have likely won the division. If so, that means they will have likely beaten Philly and Dallas. Means, they would likely be the #3 seed in the NFC. NO and Carolina play each other twice, so whether they split or 1 team wins both, the loser has to worry about falling behind SF (NO did beat SF though). Reason this is important is because the path away from SF and Seattle is much more desirable. Best case scenario would be NO coming to Chicago in the 1st round. Road game at Carolina in the 2nd round, doesn't seem too daunting. And I think SF is the only team that could win in Seattle (due to familiarity, though they certainly haven't fared well there). So, then you could have a home NFC championship game.
  19. That could be fun. Chicago hates Cutler (stupid people), can't imagine what NYC would think.
  20. Yeah Samardzija was the first thing I thought about. Better get significantly more than that.
  21. I'd be willing to pay all Anderson's salary if they take back a nobody prospect.
  22. Sproles has 15-20lbs on DAT and is more solidly built. And what's the point of using a high pick if he's only getting 6-8 touches? Granted he'd get some special teams touches too. But 2nd round is too rich for my blood. Archer I've seen anywhere from 3rd to 5th or 6th round. I like him better than DAT. They are the same player, but Archer has more experience in what will be their NFL role. Hes been hurt this year but once teams see him run in Indy, he'll be closer to a 3rd rounder than 5th.
  23. Yeah, and he's not as good as Austin (who was mostly a full time WR in college) or Harvin (who is bigger and more talented). McCluster is a good comparison, but he hasn't been worth the 3rd round pick used on him. Hence my issue with DAT.
  24. My first thought as well. Not sure what they'd be interested in though. Doesn't seem like they'd be interested in a prospect trade.
