  1. Well, he's the second; it's just that everyone in the media who uses that term doesn't realize Alcantara is better than Almora. Almora's not in the 4 either. Baez, Bryant, Soler, Russell. *I know the name was given before Russell was acquired.
  2. I'd go 2nd or 4th Alcantara Baez Rizzo Castro Valbuena Castillo Coghlan RF or Alcantara Castro Rizzo Baez Valbuena Castillo Coghlan RF That would be great. Non-Arrieta days can watch the 1st inning, then the 4th, 6th and 9th (assuming 1 hit not erased by GIDP out of the bottom 5)
  3. Sucks. Only get to see 2 top 15 prospects instead of 3. Your life sucks.
  4. Wonder where he hits in the lineup? I'd go with 6th. LF- Coghlan CF- Alcantara 1B- Rizzo SS- Castro 3B- Valbuena 2B- Baez RF- Schierholz C- Castillo
  5. Depends, now that we have middle infield jam at the MLB level we may trade Castro The Mets have already offered Bartolo Colon for him. Colon offered himself after he heard there was jam in the middle infield.
  6. He'll be wherever the [expletive] he wants to be.
  7. Hope it's separated and not broken. Prayer circle on the field makes me fear the worse, but I'm pretty sure this is at least a 6 week thing. [expletive]. But Javy doe!
  8. Championship!
  9. Looks like only Brett has noticed.
  10. I want Javy up now, because I have some weird notion that the Cubs could compete next year. Plus, I like the thought of having these guys come up in waves. If for nothing else, the pressure won't be on all 4 of the big 4 at the same time, and they all struggle together. Javy is the most logical to come up now. No real defensive questions, 1 1/2 spring trainings with the team, doesn't really need work on his defensive position, and has the most minor league ABs of the group, with the most of the group at the highest minor league level. Plus, I think you get his first 200 PA slump out of the way. Of course, at this point, it's probably too late to bring him up this year. But if I was running the show, ideally I would have had: Alcantara up in June Baez up after the AS break Soler, Sept. callup 2014 Bryant up in early May 2015. Russell, let his bat dictate, but likely up b/w June-mid July 2015.
  11. And has been getting his ass kicked by Bushrod all camp. Hope this is just a vet taking it easy, and not death.
  12. 9th QB with over 17.5 annual average. Alex Smith's agent's job is pretty easy now. Big Ben is getting a new deal before the season most likely. And all of Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers, and maybe Eli Manning and RGIII will get new deals over the next 9-12 months. That'll be 1/2 the league's QBs getting 17.5M/year, and ironically the one that started the trend (Stafford) will be the lowest.
  13. Sorry, actually not sure how many hitters. But there was the Cubs 1/2 inning at bat (3 up, 3 down), then Paniagua warming up and pitching to 1 batter before it got called. At the very least, Paniagua warming up and starting his inning should have been avoided.
  14. Frustrating that Paniagua got to face one pitcher before the game was suspended. what happened? Started a game in the rain. It didn't stop. The game got called after 7 pitches (I believe) because the field wasn't in shape to play because the tarp wasn't down in a timely manner. Complete jackassery.
  15. I like Coghlan. And while I did have high hopes for Sweeney, who is a much better defender than Coghlan, I'd have no problem with Coghlan playing a super utility role. He's played 2B, 3B and CF as recently as last year. He's going to be below average anywhere (and further below the more he goes up the defensive spectrum), but he does have the best track record offensively and is the youngest of the Sweeney, Ruggiano, Schierholz group. I think he can be a part of the future, unlike those other guys, but hopefully his future is as a bat off the bench, who can give you some on base ability near the top of the lineup.
  16. Depth charts at this point are just some names on stuff. The first 3 is pretty set in stone at most places (all offense and probably 8/11 of the defense). But after that it's a crapshoot. For example, McCray and Trice have practiced at and are pretty exclusively FS.
  17. Since July 1st, Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, and Addison Russell have combined to go: 127 for 413, with 28 doubles, 37 HRs, 47 BBs, and 108Ks. For a line of .308/.386/.644. OPS of 1.030! 11.4 BB/AB.
  18. What's crazy is that I am trying to put on paper my top 20-30 or so prospects for the Cubs. And I have a hard time with Russell or Soler 3/4. Refuse to put Baez below 2nd. But seriously, if Russell is the 8th best prospect according to a couple different lists, and is behind Bryant and Baez, and I could legitimately argue Soler as a better prospect.....WOW.
  19. Baez is going to end with an 850 OPS in what has been a down year.
  20. No hitter over. Still only 68 pitches thru 6 for Johnson.
  21. I know he just came back from injury, but CJ Edwards isn't going to be a starter is he? He's been on a pitch count for his entire Cubs career. At some point, he's going to have to show he can go more than 90 pitches and 6 innings on a consistent basis. I know that point isn't note, but its coming soon. He had 3 80 pitch starts early this year and then got hurt. Probably not going to get the chance to do so again until next season.
  22. Other: reserved for when he gets Stanton for Castro and none of the top 4 prospects.
  23. He could see the AZL next year. He's already had his TJS. Even if there's a year long recovery, he'd be there by now. If its a quick recovery, he could get most of that season in. That said, it's plausible we take it slow with him obviously. But I'd expect him to get some innings in, barring setbacks. I don't recall seeing any official word that he'd already had the surgery. Where was that reported? I don't either but it was scheduled to be on July 22.
  24. Thru 9 plate appearances, the Big 3 at Iowa has seen 51 pitches. That number includes a 1-pitch out by Soler, and also includes 2 PAs that would have continued at least 1 more pitch if not for the HPBs.
  25. 1998's version of Kerry Wood doesn't call that a curveball.
