  1. This team may kill me by the time this season is all said and done...but a world championship will be well worth it! GO CUBS! (I expect us to loosen up and score a bunch of runs tomorrow night)
  2. Relax everybody....we're just getting all the ugly losses out of the way now, so once we hit the playoffs we're going on a long winning streak. We're too good not to turn this around.
  3. Pray for a Fuku, BB. Ask and ye shall receive... GO CUBS!
  4. Now let's go get a couple of runs and win this game! GO CUBS!
  5. Yeah, I hear ya...even with a loss, the Cubs are still 31 games over 500, firmly in first place with the best record in the NL...Definite panic time.
  6. I hate to say this, but we don't deserve to win this game...We've had great chances the last two innings and couldn't deliver a simple base hit. BRUTAL!
  7. I'm predicting a Hoff-Power walk off winner...
  8. dig those up for us. then dig those up for the other 29 teams that have a worse record than us. let's see those stats for "mediocre to bad" pitching incredible. enjoy this crap. they are having a helluva season and this is not an inconsistent offense. This is the same thinking that says that all of Sammy's 609 HRs came at meaningless game situations.
  9. have you watched the cubs at all this year? jesus Yeah, I know what our inconsistent offense can do. The only reason we were able to do anything last night is because we finally got to thier bulpen. We have been completely shut down by much worse pitchers than Blanton. We'll also be lucky if we get 5 innings out of Harden today. Boy, I'll take another 10 years of our "inconsistent" offense. I kinda like scoring the most runs in the NL, but that's just me.
  10. I could take that same type of win a month from now in the first game of the playoffs against the Phills...my man-crush for this team grows by the day...it's starting to feel like a magical season folks!
  11. I don't think the Red Sox value has diminished. It probably enhances value in the short-run (5 years). The value of the Red Sox increased by 40% after the first WS title. Put very simply, winning = $$$ through higher advertising rates, promotional tie ins and in stadium revenue (ie more $7.50 beers)
  12. I was worried that the Cubs needed to pick up another bench bat for the stretch run, but then I forgot that Big Z could swing the lumber for us...WOW! (I like this idea of scoring every inning)
  13. Come on...Harden's pitching a gem...let's get him some runs this inning!
  14. Don't worry...I said the same thing on Sunday and that turned out okay...
  15. The Cubs sell out every game, they don't really need to advertise the team. The Bears sell out every game and they are putting out commercials. Advertising does more than help ticket sales. The Cubs mostly run radio ads, although they do run TV commercials during Cubs games (advertising Batters Eye Suites) This is the first big marketing campaign by the Bears in years though, according to the articles about these commercials. I'm not sure the Bears will be playing to full houses given how woeful this offense is going to be. Sure the seats might be sold, but the Bears will miss out on the extra revenue with 300% markups (beers, parking, etc.)
  16. New Sox slogan: "Our urinals rock!" (Should resonate with the multitudes of Sox fans who apparently judge baseball stadiums by the quality of their bathroom facilities. Funny, I've been to a few Sox games this year and never came away with some higher sense of joy after relieving myself in their urinals.)
  17. A guy on a Sox board recently was talking about "Cubs fans being to stupid" yada-yada......At least we know our grammar rules!
  18. He had better not be on the playoff roster, even. Anyone in the minors we can call up to replace him if he gets DFA'ed? How's Wuertz doing? Not that great. Would it be too much to ask for Guzman? What about Acencio (sp?)
  19. Hey Bob, THAT's how relief pitchers should look!
  20. What makes it all the more beautiful is that it's not all on the back of one heart-tapping player...this team is incredibly balanced (Oh, and Bob Howry, your train is now departing)
  21. I had a Sox buddy of mine recently claim that the As might have gotten the better of the Harden trade because Harden isn't winning games for us. What a joke. In two starts, Harden pitched 12 innings of 1 run ball yet didn't win either start. That tells you all you need to know about judging a pitcher's success base on Ws. If you have to pick one stat, it's got to be ERA because that and WHIP are what the pitcher affects the most on his own.
  22. Does Lilly not like pitching with a lead tonight...as soon as we score he gives up a run. Fortunately, are scores are crooked numbers, but still
  23. Guess he just wanted to make it exciting.
